About 2021 BMW 7 Series

4.1

Overall Rating

The all-new 2021 BMW 7 Series luxury sedan got a major styling upgrade in 2020 with refreshed exterior styling coupled with numerous comfort and technology upgrades on the inside. The same continues for 2021 as well. BMW has also tweaked all of the 7-Series engine options for heightened performance and efficiency.

BMW has launched the 2021 version of its flagship 7-series sedan starting at a price of $86,800 for the base 740i RWD model. The AWD model comes at just $3,000 more than the RWD model and both models derive their power from a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbocharged motor developing 335 hp.

A more powerful 750i model is also on offer at a price of $103,000 that comes with a 523 hp producing turbocharged 8-cylinder motor. BMW also sells a PHEV version of the 7 Series sedan and a 601 hp producing M760i model as well, priced at $95,900 and $157,800 respectively.

The 7 series received some much-needed updates in 2020 and which is why the 2021 model remains mostly unchanged. BMW still offers one of the best interiors in the category with a slick MMI infotainment unit and an array of modern driver assistance features as well. The BMW 7 Series rivals the likes of the Lexus LS 500, Genesis G90, and the Porsche Panamera.

The 7-Series is a heavy car with loads of components dedicated to keeping you cozy. But the base 3.0L Twin Turbocharged Inline-6 engine with Adaptive cruise control feature, rear executive lounge seating, advanced safety features, and abundance of tech amenities and infotainment range, and advanced safety features makes it our recommendation.

2021 BMW 7 Series Review

Pros

  • Luxurious Interiors
  • Stylish Exterior design
  • Composed Driving manners
  • Multiple engine and customization options on offer

Cons

  • Still doesn't feel as premium as an S-Class
  • Ride Quality gets stiff at times

The all-new 2021 BMW 7 Series luxury sedan got a major styling upgrade in 2020 with refreshed exterior styling coupled with numerous comfort and technology upgrades on the inside. The same continues for 2021 as well. BMW has also tweaked all of the 7-Series engine options for heightened performance and efficiency.

Overview

Pricing and Features
7.0/10

The 2021 BMW 7-Series is offered in five exciting trims. It includes 740i, 750i xDrive, 745e xDrive iPerformance, and M760i xDrive. BMW 740i is the only trim that is offered in RWD configuration and all of the rest gets AWD or xDrive as BMW likes to call.

The base spec 740i is equipped with a 3.0L 6-cylinder engine and gets features like 18-inch wheels, Dakota leather upholstery, heated and 20-way power-adjustable front seats, LED carpet lighting, 4-zone automatic climate control and much more.

The 750i xDrive trim gets a larger and more powerful 4.4-liter V8 unit and in addition to all the goodies offered on the 740i gets features like 19-inch wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, BMW Teleservices, climate comfort laminated glass, ground illuminating lights in the exterior door handles, active headrest and the list goes on and on and on.

Buying Advice

Looking at all the trim levels, we think that the base spec 740i trim makes the most sense. The trim comes with a long list of features and strikes a great balance between power, performance, and luxury. You always can choose the other trims in case you crave more power and performance.

Engine and Performance
8.4/10

Talking of the 2021 7-Series, the model is available in four engine options. Starting with the inline-6 which is a standard to the 740i, the 4.4 Liter V8 which comes along with the 750i xDrive, a 523 hp plug-in hybrid, and the 601 hp V8 engine powered M760i xDrive.

Apart from this, performance is improved by a highly accurate shiftable eight-speed automatic transmission system with access to paddle shifters mounted on the steering. The 2021 BMW 7-Series at its least powerful setup produced 335 hp and 330 lb-ft from its 3.0L Turbocharged Inline-6 engine that is coupled to a crisp 8-Speed automatic transmission.

The Lexus LS 500 is the only other sedan in this bunch that offers qualitative efficiency figures as the 7-Series. But it has an edge over the Bimmer because of its slightly larger fuel tank which helps it go the farthest. Stricter emission norms will surely put a tight knot on the likes of Genesis G90 and the Panamera.

It gets a fairly large trunk with 18.2 cu.-ft. of usable volume. The dashboard is well laid out with loads of soft-touch materials and aluminum trimming.

This behemoth looks great from all angles and demands attention when cruising down the road- Carbuzz

BMWs are known for their iconic kidney grilles. It's heartening to see that BMW didn't take any drastic measures with the 2021 7-Series like the new 2021 4 Series. But it gets a daily upsized kidney-grille layout that goes well with the size of this luxury sedan. The newly updated design tweaks the front and rear fascia gives it a bit more aggression as compared to the previous generation 7-Series.

You can differentiate between the 740i and 750i models, from their different wheel designs and of course the badging at the rear! The wheels are 18-inches and come wrapped in all-season tires. The 2021 7-Series is treated generously with chrome accents in the exterior and a lot of it on the kidney grilles. The front bumper gets an edgy update and its LED projector headlamps complement the new aggressive outlook.

BMW 7-Series vs Lexus LS 500

The interior of the Lexus LS 500 is crafted with genteel materials and sophisticated tech features. On the other hand, the BMW 7-Series has a more balanced layout of luxury, comfort and performance. If we take all of these into consideration, then the Bimmer triumphs over the Lexus for its more balanced offering, despite being on the pricier side.

BMW 7-Series vs Genesis G90

With similar performance numbers and interior features, both cars face strong competition. It comes down to the styling cues and thanks to the still sanely designed kidney grilles, the BMW 7-Series looks much more compelling than the Genesis G90. The front grille on the Genesis requires a bold bunch of audiences which is hard to come by. The Bimmer makes more sense and is better suited to the "luxury" field of the two.

Final Verdict
8.2/10

If you are looking to experience an all-in-one package of performance and ultra-luxury, the 2021 BMW 7-Series will be an apt choice. Available in five different trims with varying engine options and abundance of standard features, the 7-Series can be claimed as one of the best luxury sedans available in the market.  Also, you get additional safety assurance with a range of passive safety systems and Driver Assistance features.

The Lexus LS 500 might have more performance, the Genesis G90 might be bold and the Porsche me be the most athletic, but the 2021 BMW 7-Series incorporates all of this and provides you with the best of all these worlds. This makes it a well-rounded luxury offering, despite being priced on the higher side.
