The 2021 BMW M340i gets a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine under the hood which has the capability to churn out 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic while both RWD and AWD configurations are available.

The transmission shifts keenly to maintain an uninterrupted surge of power and torque. The sedan never feels handful or intimidating especially when coupled with the xDrive AWD system. The sophisticated independent rear suspension feels refined and offers predictable handling.

In a straight line, the 2021 BMW M340i can hit 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds while the quarter-mile run is finished in 12.3 seconds. The M340i gets M Sport brakes for better braking performance. Therefore, in the brake test, the 2021 M340i took 111 feet to come to a dead stop from 60-0 mph.

The 2021 BMW M340i's interiors remain unchanged, with top-quality material and oodles of tech. With a 5-seating capacity, the seats are well-cushioned and provide good levels of comfort and support. The SensaTec faux-leather upholstery feels soft to the touch and is used all over the cabin which enhances the look and feel of the cockpit. 

The steering wheel gets leather treatment and comes with audio and cruise controls. The rear seats are just as comfortable as the front ones but only two adults can sit comfortably. The M340i's rear head and legroom are sufficient enough for a comfortable journey.  A 13 cu-ft. of cargo capacity is offered behind the rear seats.

All the rivals offer a similar level of passenger space making it a competitive segment. Speaking of trunk volume, the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 leads the table by a small margin followed by the M340i. The Mercedes-AMG C43 comes in third while the Audi S4 stands last. The M340i gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen display that functions on the iDrive 7 interface. The infotainment system is paired with an 8-speaker sound system whose sound quality is alluring.

However, it can be upgraded to a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium surround sound system. Standard connectivity features available are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM. The touchscreen also supports gesture controls to change settings or volume. However, some critics have pointed out that gestures aren't always recognized. It offers less cargo capacity than the M340i but its interiors are the epitome of luxury. The M340i wins some points back when it comes to fuel economy. 2021 BMW M340i vs 2021 Audi S4

Priced at $49,900, the Audi S4 is the cheapest offering in this class. The S4 produces 33 hp less than the BMW M340i  and yet, it beats the latter in the 0-60 mph test. The MPG figures of the M340i are better than the S4. Speaking of practicality, the S4 has a cargo capacity of12 cu-ft. while the M340i has 13 cu-ft. The S4's MMI infotainment system feels easy to use and hosts a lot of features. 

2021 BMW M340i vs 2021 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400

The Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 gets powerful at a low price point. It produces 18 hp more than the BMW M340i but still, the M340i gives a tough challenge to it. In terms of fuel economy, the Q50 Red Sport is the worst in this segment while the M340i is the most fuel-efficient. But, the Q50 offers slightly better cargo capacity (13.5 cu-ft.) than the M340i (13 cu-ft.)
