About 2022 Jeep Wagoneer

4.1

Overall Rating

This new Wagoneer will offer a lot more space than the newly launched Grand Cherokee L but has been priced lesser than the uber-luxurious Grand Wagoneer. Available in 6 trims, prices for the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer starts at $59,995. Sales will begin this summer.

Jeep has resurrected a legendary name after a long time and after years of speculations in the form of the all-new 2022 Wagoneer lineup. Featuring an impressive exterior silhouette, and an even better array of user-friendly technology, this gorgeous new addition to the Jeep lineup gets its power from a massive 5.7L V8 engine paired with a 48-volt hybrid system, which lets it belt out 392 horses. Speaking of capability, the 2022 Wagoneer has a segment-best towing capability of 10,000 lbs. Prices for the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer start from $67,995.

The interiors of the full-size SUV here match the same level of excellence the exteriors put forth, although with best-in-class passenger space and creature comforts. Built-in Warren, Michigan, and having lifted off the curtains earlier this year, the 2022 Wagoneer is all set to hit showrooms by the fall of 2021, at an MSRP of $69,440. For that price range, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will take on the likes of GMC Yukon, the Chevrolet Tahoe, and the Ford Expedition.

The Series II trim of the Wagoneer lineup packs in a wide plethora of bells and whistles that will make your ride comfortable, enjoyable and pleasurable all at the same time and which is why it is our trim recommendation among the Wagoneer lineup.

2022 Jeep Wagoneer Review

Pros

  • Impressive ride quality
  • Luxuriously appointed cabin
  • Comfortable seats

Cons

  • Dimensions hinder maneuverability
  • Exorbitant pricing as per class

Overview

Jeep has resurrected a legendary name after a long time and after years of speculations in the form of the all-new 2022 Wagoneer lineup. Engine and Performance
8.2/10

On our first test drive, we noted that the Wagoneer's somewhat top-heavy handling doesn't inspire the driver to zip through curves but it's softly-tuned suspension delivered a smooth ride when cruising on the highway - Car and Driver

The 5.7L V8 engine at the helm of the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is mated to an eTorque 48v mild hybrid system. Together, they make a whopping 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque. This setup also enables the upcoming Wagoneer to tow around 10,000 pounds and has a class 4 hitch integrated into it. An 8-speed automatic transmission comes in standard. While the standard Wagoneer comes as an RWD, a total of three different 4x4 systems are on offer. Each system will offer an increasing level of capability.

The basic is the Quadra-Trac I. It's all automatic, with a single-speed transfer case. The other two are the Quadra-Trac II and the Quadra-Drive II, which add low range gears for a crawl ratio of up to 48:1. The Quadra-Drive II also gets an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The two-speed transfer case unlocks access to “Selec-Drive” modes, which gives impressive control over powertrain adjustments, braking, traction control, and suspension settings.

The towing capacity doesn't change despite the configuration. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer towing capacity will remain nearly 10,000 lbs. or 9,860 lbs. to be precise, irrespective of the trim/powertrain you choose. A five-link suspension system with coil springs and monoblock shocks is standard. The 2022 Wagoneer is expected to be among the slowest in the segment, because of the heft it carries. We can expect a 0-60 MPH time of 7.5-7.6 seconds. The Expedition’s twin-turbo V6 gives it exponential torque, helping it accelerate quickly. Both the Yukon and the Tahoe share similar acceleration at 7.1 seconds and make less power than the Wagoneer.

Fuel Economy
6.5/10

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer delivers 16 MPG in the city and 22 miles to the gallon out on the highway. This is with the RWD setup. Opt for the 4WD setup, and the Wagoneer is able to deliver 15 and 20 miles to the gallon out in the city and highway respectively. One would imagine that a massive V8 might not have a good fuel economy. However, that might not be the case here. Thanks to its mild hybrid system and intuitive features like cylinder deactivation, the Wagoneer gets better fuel economy than most.

The 2022 Wagoneer also comes with something called a Fuel Saver Technology (cylinder deactivation). Here, the engine control computer turns off the fuel and spark, after which it closes the intake and exhaust valves on four of the engine’s eight cylinders during the light load operation, such as highway cruising when full power is not needed. Competing with the fuel economy demands of its class might not be that difficult for the Wagoneer. The Ford Expedition has better fuel economy as it uses a V6 engine as compared to a V8 as others in the class.

Interior
9.0/10

Inside the cabin, amterials and quality impress - Motortrend

On the inside, the cabin of the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is extremely spacious. Grand and roomy, with excellent material quality. The layout of the dashboard is reminiscent of other Jeeps but still manages to feel drastically new. The 3-row cabin can seat up to 8 people, but if you opt for the second-row captain’s chairs, it reduces the capacity to 7 people. Both front seats have 12-way power adjusting seats while all seats get beautiful Nappa leather upholstery with horizontal stitching. The driver’s seat provides a clear view of the road ahead with clear visibility all around, and the dual-spoke steering wheel reminds us of the original Wagoneer.

The third row has been paid some decent attention too. Jeep claims 39 inches of headroom and 36.6 inches of legroom for the third row, which, if not exponential, is still decent. There are no wood trims on the dashboard here, as we see on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, but that doesn't mean the Wagoneer’s dashboard is any less awe-inspiring.

Taking center stage is a 10.1-inch infotainment display powered by the Uconnect 5 interface that was co-developed in conjunction with navigation experts TomTom. It integrates all the modern features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 4G wifi Hotspot among others. Amazon’s FireTV makes its debut for automobiles with the Wagoneer. The driver watches a 10.3-inch digital gauge display, and if opted for, the front passenger gets their own 10.3-inch display for navigation data and entertainment. Second-row seats can also be equipped with screens. Standard, the Wagoneer provides a 9 Speaker Alpine setup, but an even impressive 19 speaker setup by McIntosh is available.

Despite the 3 rows, the Wagoneer is suspected to have class-leading cargo space. The 3rd row folds down to increase storage space. With all rows down, the Wagoneer boasts 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space. And while we might not have exact numbers, the total passenger volume sits at 179.6 cubic feet, which is above the class average.

Exterior

The car relies entirely on its design to tell the world it's a Jeep - CarBuzz

Proud of its heritage, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer holds its head high. Jeep knows where the roots of the Wagoneer lie, and the impact it had on America. That is why it brands the car with the American flag, right next to its name. The thin and wide front grille gives the Wagoneer an iconic look, which is highlighted by the LED lights across it. A distinct shoulder, running across the perimeter of the car becomes the underline for the nameplate Wagoneer branding on the hood and trunk. Giant U-shaped windows, wide doors, and a fairly low lift gate sum up the approach that Jeep has taken.

The 20-inch wheels are standard, but options are provided for either 18-inch off-road wheels and tires or premium 22-inch wheels, making the Wagoneer cater to every taste. With 4 distinct finishes available and a wheel cap embossing the Wagoneer name in acrylic, the wheels on the Wagoneer are just as attractive as the rest of the car.

Call it nostalgia, but we hoped to see the Wagoneer being able to roll down its tailgate window just like the original one used to. Alas, not all wishes come true. While the Wagoneer comes with a standard steel coil spring suspension setup which gives it around 8 inches of ground clearance, the optional Quadra-Lift air suspension increases it to 10 inches. With it, the Wagoneer can easily tread up to 24 inches in the water. However, that will require a 4x4 setup. This type of ground clearance is only rivaled by the Ford Expedition.
