Review

The BMW X2 for 2023 is already available in the market and one can reach the dealers for a test drive or final purchase.

One of the most trusted brands, BMW, offers the X2 range under the compact SUV category. The X2 looks great with impressive styling in the interior. The exterior is sharp and the overall appearance is agile and aggressive as well. The handling of the X2 is certainly one of its best aspects and it comes with a fairly powerful engine at its range. The affordable pricing and multiple features make the BMW SUVs very practical and at the same time attractive for drivers. The X2 is an extended version of the BMW X1 which was the entry-level SUV for BMW in the market.

However, there are significant competitions from several brands and models from which the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, the Volvo XC40, and the Audi Q3 can be termed as primary rivals for the BMW X2.

Features
7.5/10

There are three trims available for the 2023 BMW X2 and they are sDrive28i, xDrive28i and the Edition Goldplay trim. However, the unique Edition Goldplay only provides the overall outlook and there is no difference in performance or body parts from the base trim of the BMW X2. Therefore, many consider this specific edition to be a package rather than a trim of the car. The main two trims, the sDrive28i, and the xDrive28i are practically the same except for one aspect - the xDrive comes with an all-wheel drivetrain instead of the FWD. There is also a slight difference in the price tag as well and the starting price of the sDrive28i is $37,600 while the same for the xDrive28i is $39,600 in the market.

The 2023 BMW X2 has several advanced features and all of them are available in both the sDrive and xDrive trims. The 18" x 7.5" Y-spoke bi-color alloy wheels give the car an attractive outlook and the Driving Dynamics control coupled with the Adaptive Cruise Control helps the driver to have more control and experience stable driving. The SensaTec faux leather sport seats add extra comfort on the inside while the Satin aluminum line exterior trim is a great feature for the outside. The three distinct drive modes - Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport and standard for BMW X series vehicles but the 8.8-inch iDrive System along with the 10-speaker sound system makes the overall infotainment more attractive. We Recommend

Out of the two very similar trims of the 2023 BMW X2, the only difference is that sDrive28i has an FWD drivetrain while the xDrive28i has an AWD drivetrain. However, the sDrive has a better price considering that the xDrive costs $2,000 more without any additional features. Hence the sDrive28i is recommended for everyone and among the four packages, the Premium Package is the best one due to its array of features and justifiable price. The M Sport Package also offers some great improvements but they are more costly.

Fuel Economy
6.5/10

The 2023 BMW X2 is not the most fuel-efficient SUV in the market but the mileage offered does not disappoint a driver. The fuel economy on city roads is 24 MPG for the BMW X2 and the same on the highways is 32 MPG. The combined mileage in cities and highways for the 2023 X2 is 27 MPG and very few in the market that belong to the same category have a better figure than the BMW. The fuel capacity of the BMW SUV is 16.1 gallons and the range of the vehicle in the cities and highways are 386 and 515 miles respectively.

The BMW X2 has a slight advantage in the mileage over the Audi and the Volvo SUVs from the 2023 versions but the GLA Class from Mercedes Benz has slight advantages here. The fuel tank capacity is the largest in the market and the range of the BMW SUV is higher than its primary rivals. The range of 386 miles in the cities and 515 miles on the highways are unmatched figures in the market. Only the Audi Q3 comes close in this segment with a good range and almost similar fuel capacity. The Mercedes-Benz, despite its good mileage, comes with a lower range due to its smaller fuel tank.

Interior
9.2/10

The interior of the 2023 BMW X2 is spacious and stylish to offer arguably the most comfortable cabin to the passengers. The standard 5-seater SUV has standard space and with the 12-Way Driver and Passenger Sport Bucket Seats you can expect a comfortable ride. The trunk capacity of the 2023 X2 from BMW is definitely among the largest ones in the competitive market. The Dual Zone Automatic Air Conditioning offers extra comfort while the 40-20-40 Folding Split-Bench Rear Seats allow larger space when folded. The well-built and properly outfitted cabin offers excellent driving position and faux and genuine leather seats with different colors increase the attractiveness on the inside. Five carry-on suitcases can be easily fitted inside the cargo and the number can go up to 15 when the rear seats are folded.

The Volvo offers a much larger area of 57.5 cu.-ft with folded rear seats. The BMW has considerable space with and without the folded rear seats. However, the GLA class has the smallest trunk space in the competition.

Exterior
9.2/10

The sharp and stylish exterior of the BMW X2 is undoubtedly a unique selling proposition for the 2023 SUV. The sleek design of the vehicle and a lot of attractive features makes it a good bargain. The 18-inch wheels with All-Season Runflat tires look appealing and it comes with an aggressive front fascia. The kidney grille is attractive and the LED headlights are particularly sharper and more stylish. The front design helps the car to breathe properly and you can easily identify it as a bimmer. The shoulder line is not too impressive but the chrome surround makes it worthwhile. The front fog lamps and the cornering light offer both functionality and design. The power liftgate is a great feature and the LED brake lights are appealing as well.

The Audi Q3 is the largest in the competition but the overall height is best for the Volvo. The height of the SUV from the ground is 60.1 inches while the ground clearance has a figure of 7.2 inches which makes it easier to ride on uneven terrains. The Volvo XC40 has a much better ground clearance of 8.3 inches while the Audi has the smallest figure.

Safety
8.0/10

The 2023 BMW X2 has not been tested by the IIHS-HLDI or NHTSA yet but the previous versions of the SUV had excellent ratings regarding the safety systems. The in-built safety features are excellent as they offer almost all the standard features. The structural integrity of the X2 is excellent and it is a reliable SUV. Electronic Stability Control and Roll Stability Control are impressive aspects that offer better stability. On the other hand, Frontal Collision Warning and Collision Mitigation provide the highest safety standards. The Low Tire Pressure Warning is a great facility and the Airbag Occupancy Sensor is an exceptional addition as well. The overall safety system is flooded with incredible features making the BMW X2 one of the safest cars in the market.

  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Roll Stability Control
  • Driveline Traction Control
  • Side Impact Beams
  • Park Distance Control with Parking Sensors
  • Frontal Collision Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Collision Mitigation
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning

Competition
8.0/10

2023 BMW X2 vs. 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is the SUV with the closest competition with the BMW X2 as it has all the similar aspects in the engine segment and is offered at a slightly lower price. The engine performance is almost as good as the BMW but the 2023 Mercedes-Benz has a higher top speed. The mileage and fuel economy are slightly better as well and the overall riding experience is impressive in the case of the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. The stylish interior and the slightly larger room available inside the cabin make the 2023 Mercedes-Benz SUV more desirable. The advancement in technology and the safety features make the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class a great bargain at the price and it can be opted for instead of the BMW X2 on any day of the week.

2023 BMW X2 vs. 2023 Volvo XC40

The 2023 Volvo XC40 is as fierce a rival for the 2023 X2 as any due to its engine performance and price tag. The braking system and the overall riding experience for both the driver and the passengers are excellent. The premium interior and stylish modern design increase the desirability factors for the buyers. The Volvo XC40, in terms of mileage, might not be as good as the BMW X2 but it does not disappoint either. The cabin space is standard and an improved exterior with style and technology can easily take on the 2023 X2. The infotainment and safety features are excellent and the reliability of the driving and suspension along with its performance in rough terrains make it a great choice in the same SUV category. The price">price of the 2023 XC40 is slightly higher than the BMW X2 but given all the features and stable performance, one can easily go for the Volvo SUV. However, the BMW overshadows the 2023 Volvo XC40 in many of the segments to announce itself to be a better alternative.

2023 BMW X2 vs. 2023 Audi Q3

The 2023 Audi Q3 has everything from style, power, stability, and reliability that any SUV can offer. The Audi Q3 has many similar aspects in the engine segment and even has the same top speed but the overall power and torque are not as great as the BMW X2. The mileage offered and the fuel tank capacity are almost as good and the riding experience of the 2023 Q3 is also great. The spacious and stylish interior of the Audi Q3 has the largest cargo space in the market and the overall exterior is as attractive as its interior. The advanced infotainment system along with the excellent safety features make the Audi Q3 a top contender in the market. However, the choice ultimately depends on the individual preferences of the drivers.

Final Verdict

The 2023 BMW X2 is an excellent SUV in terms of performance, stability, style, and comfort. The engine is arguably the best-performing unit in the competitive market and the braking system complements the power, torque, and acceleration of the BMW. The riding experience and the comfort factors of the 2023 X2 are unmatched and the practicality of the exterior design makes it more attractive as well. The BMW offers good mileage and range in the competitive market and it has a considerable fuel capacity as well. The infotainment unit is sufficient and the safety system offers numerous features to offer the optimum safety for the driver and the passengers. The competitive pricing makes the 2023 BMW X2 one of the most desirable SUVs in the market and there are hardly any major improvements to suggest for the latest X2. There are some good alternatives but the BMW X2 can easily be the first choice and you will be happy to take it home.
