Premium 3dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6A)
Turbo R-Spec FWD
3dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)
The Hyundai Veloster is a sharp-looking hatchback with good performance figures and general comfort inside the cabin. It is a hatchback with three doors which is an odd thing but has been there for long enough to be common now.
The three-door Hyundai Veloster makes one last appearance for the year 2022, with the sole exclusion of a few trims on offer. The Hyundai Veloster was always a sharp-looking hatchback with good performance figures and a general comfort-laden interior layout. Whereas the base Veloster offers a decent 147 hp 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, true-blue petrolheads will nevertheless go for the 275 hp Veloster N. Ranked at #10 in our compact hatchback segment, prices for the 2022 Veloster start at an MSRP of $19,905.
The 2022 iteration is expected to have no big change in the exterior as well as in the interior. The 2021 Veloster in itself did have a beautifully and ergonomically designed interior with premium materials that boasts a good fit and finish. The same is set to be reciprocated into 2022 as well. Although, having said that, the safety aspect of the 2022 Veloster is set to include a bit more advanced driver-assistance tech.
The 2022 Hyundai Veloster is expected to be released in the last quarter of 2021 or early 2022 and is set to start from a base MSRP of $19,905 for the 2.0L variant with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Korean manufacturer is very used to short update cycles for its vehicles. Therefore, despite there being no requirement for significant changes, Hyundai is updating the trim structure of the Veloster to match the quality that the competition might offer in 2022.

From a broad perspective, the existing 5 trim structure may make way for just 3 trims in the year 2022, with the Turbo Ultimate and the Turbo variants being clubbed into one single trim. Now the trim lineup consists of the base 2.0L, Turbo R-Spec, and Turbo with prices ranging from $19,905 - $26,755. Moreover, two engine options to the tune of a 147 hp 2.0L NA and a 201 hp 1.6L turbo four-cylinder are also available across the trim lineup.
2022 Hyundai Veloster Trims and Configurations>>
Hyundai offers the 2022 Veloster as a high value for money proposition. Maybe not as high as some of its rivals, but the Veloster is an excellent hatchback for the young adult, with the looks, cargo space, driveability, and usability all of which are better than the competition. That being said, the stylish hatchback doesn’t exhibit its performance happy nature outside of its Turbo or N variants. While the Veloster N variant can get tuned a little stiffer than you’d like, Turbo trims of the Veloster offer an exceptional turbocharged engine, in both manual and automatic transmissions. The added driving thrills make for great satisfaction with the Veloster in the long run. So we recommend you opt for the $26,755 Turbo variant.
The powertrain options will be carried forward from the 2021 Veloster. It’s offered with a standard 2.0L inline-four which gives out a hefty 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful 1.6L turbocharged four-pot puts up 210 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and is offered in the Turbo trims. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission, 6-speed torque convertor automatic, or a worthy 7-speed dual-clutch automatic in the top trims, and all the variants are FWD as standard.
All the said configuration structure will continue in the next vehicle as well. The Kia Soul employs the same engine as the Veloster, as seen in the matching power and torque figures. The Hyundai engine is quite visibly set at a lower tune than it should be and produces just as many horses as the smaller, turbocharged, and hence more torquey engine in the 2021 Volkswagen Golf. Surprisingly enough, the Toyota Corolla produces the most horsepower among its direct rivals at 168 hp.

Despite being the more performance-oriented vehicle by the looks of it, the Veloster is the slower of the two Korean manufacturers entrants, as the Veloster does the 0-60 MPH sprint in a lazy 8.8 seconds. The turbocharged Golf looks peppy on paper, sprinting to 60 the quickest among the four, and in just 7.6 seconds. The rest of the competition failed to break the 8-second barrier.
With its standard 2.0L inline-four engine the MPG figures delivered by 2022 Veloster is 27/34/30 in city/highway/combined respectively. The Veloster is plenty economical with regards to fuel consumption, but the competition from Toyota and Volkswagen offer slightly better efficiency. It is worth mentioning that the Turbo variants get a smaller 1.6 liter turbocharged unit as seen in the 2021 Veloster lineup, and the engine is offered with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT dropping the city/highway/combined figure to 26/33/29.

It will continue to offer the same 13.2 gallon capacity gas tank. Even under the guise of a smaller engine, the Veloster shows plenty of fuel efficiency, even though it cannot beat its rivals to show for it. In the eyes of the general public, the MPG figures of the 2021 Golf or the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback might look better, but the difference between the two isn't all that discernible, nor significant.
Interiors of the new 2022 Hyundai Veloster should continue to be the same. Hyundai already offers enough comfort features inside the vehicle, and the cabin is comfortably designed with durable materials all around. The 2021 Veloster interiors were slightly upmarket for the prices at which it is offered. Ingress and egress is more difficult on the driver's side than on the passenger’s side as the door is long and the car sits low. The interior also gets a black theme with contrast red stitching on the seat which looks sporty to compliment the exterior design.
The lower trim variant gets a 7.0-inch touch screen which is not that good at what it does, whereas the 8.0-inch touch screen offered in some top trims is fluidic in response and is equipped with more features than others. These all features will remain constant in the 2022 MY Veloster too.

As the interior spaces are unaltered this year as well, hence it remains the best in the front row legroom and has decent space in the second row which is the least compared to the rivals at 42.6 inches. The Veloster is a low-slung vehicle, hence losing out on the maximum headroom that could be offered. The rear seat in the Veloster is barely accessible but offers more space than the likes of the Toyota Corolla hatchback. On the other hand, the Kia Soul offers the most usable rear row of seating, despite having similar dimensions as the Veloster.
The exterior of the 2022 Hyundai is likely to remain the same, as the Veloster received a significant makeover for the model year 2019, and that same silhouette is set to be reciprocated into 2022 as well. Even though Hyundai update cycles are much shorter than the likes of Honda and Toyota, the Veloster should look the same coming into 2022.
No changes have been reported to the exterior, or in any trim-specific exterior features up until now. At 166.9 inches, the length of the Veloster beats that of the Kia Soul, but the body structure of the Kia allows for a more accommodating vehicle.

The safety offered in the 2022 Hyundai Veloster will not need any changes as it is already equipped with almost everything it requires. The 2021 Hyundai Veloster was bestowed the IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick’ award which justifies its safety standards and we can only expect Hyundai to improve on it. Having said that, apart from the safety and driver-assistance features on point, it also gets smart cruise control and rear cross-traffic warning software.
The 2021 Hyundai Veloster is equipped with advanced safety features such as:
Both of these vehicles come from the same country and same manufacturing group. This makes for similarities in the platform, powertrain, materials, and the overall quality of the product. However, both of these vehicles could not be any more different.
Both hatchbacks offered are worlds apart when it comes to driving dynamics, performance figures, interior room, practicality, and the list could go on. Perplexingly, the Veloster is the slower of the two owing to its heavier curb weight, but the driving manners of the Veloster are better than the tall, high-riding Kia Soul. Both vehicles offer plenty and are specifically designed to suit your purposes depending on what they are.
2021 Hyundai Veloster vs 2021 Kia Soul: Model Specs Comparison>>
The Hyundai Veloster is an excellent entry-level hatchback for the young populace looking for a stylish but usable car. The low ground clearance, swooping design across the body, and low-slung roof makes it look like a hot hatch, but the Golf is obviously the better driver still.
With years of heritage as a peppy hatchback with some roided out versions, the Golf offers some of the most balanced driving dynamics you can get in a hatchback today. The Veloster isn’t far behind achieving such manners on the move, but the performance seems much more subdued than what the 2021 Volkswagen Golf has to offer with its turbocharged setup.
2021 Hyundai Veloster vs 2021 Volkswagen Golf: Model Specs Comparison>>
As far as entry-level hatchbacks go, the cost range and limited space availability forces manufacturers to choose what to offer in their market entrants. While manufacturers like Toyota and Volkswagen stick to their fortes and sell vehicles marketed by their reliability, Hyundai, and Kia work together hand in hand to offer the same package in two very different options that suit completely different purposes. The Kia Soul and Hyundai Veloster are perfect examples of offering what the other cannot.
That being said, the Veloster brings stylish looks and everyday convenience to the fore, earning itself a decent customer base, despite the Kia Soul being more practical and minutely quicker. Hyundai has earned its reputation as a globally renowned car manufacturer, and one can’t help but think that the Veloster might just be getting by due to the influence the brand name has. Refinement levels are excellent, but the Veloster should offer more with regard to the value proposition.
