Volkswagen is playing a lot with the Golf’s MQB platform and soon will be expanding its lineup with sporty Golf Wagon. The spy pictures of the very wagon were last seen in October which was recently followed by another set of images from the snow testing which also hinted at the all-wheel-drive system. Volkswagen’s lineup of sporty models will soon expand with a long-roofed variant. The stack of images that are latest is showing close to no camouflage.

The oncoming wagon is a secret no more and it is going to share its engine with the 2022 Golf R Hatchback which makes 315 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque from a 2L four-cylinder engine. It is crazy what these 4 cylinders are able to pull off nowadays. The wagon will be using a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission which Volkswagen is famous for and with it comes the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. The speed is electronically limited to 167 mph a 0 to 60 mph should take somewhere under 5-seconds.

The ‘R’ intentions of the car are pretty much all over the car, the suspension is lowered, it has bigger-sized wheels and perforated brakes with contrasting color brake calipers. The front fascia looks pretty cool with a low-grille opening which gives it an angry face. The rear is christened with 4 exhaust pipe outlets and there’s a likeliness of Akrapovic having a feature here.

What the lack of camo tells us is, the launch is not far away and the release date is closer than you think. The Golf R Wagon might come as the 2022 model year, considering the wait with the Golf R Hatchback which hasn’t hit dealers yet.
Volkswagen had already announced that it will not sell the Golf hatchback in the U.S. after 2021. However, it will continue to sell the Golf R and the Golf GTi in the market for the near future as well.
