Fisker Inc., the Los Angeles based EV startup has finally revealed the leasing and reserving prices for its upcoming electric SUV, the Ocean. Interested buyers can reserve their Fisker Ocean by paying $250. However, if you plan on leasing the Ocean, you can do it by paying $379 on a per month basis. For the lease, however, a down-payment of $2,999 would be required prior to delivery.
Henrik Fisker, the founder of Fisker Automotive, revealed the name of this upcoming electric SUV just recently, through a tweet on the 27th of November, 2019. Fisker also said that the Ocean will be arriving in 2022 and the production of the same will begin in late 2021.
Fisker Automotive 1st came into limelight with its fantastic and ultra-luxurious PHEV sports car, the Karma in 2012. However, the Karma didn’t manage to get as many customers as the eyeballs it garnered. Henrik Fisker, for years, had been stating a possible comeback for this LA-based organization and the Ocean electric SUV, seems to be the weapon of choice.
Fisker hasn’t officially announced the MSRP for the Ocean but he has suggested that the prices will stay below $40,000. If this is true, then Fisker will manage to undercut its nearest rival, the Tesla Model Y, which is expected to begin from $41,200. You can also cancel the booking for the Ocean at any time without any long-term commitment as well. The leasing period varies from a month, 8 months, 22 months or multiple years as well.
What are the various ways of booking the Ocean? Well, firstly, you can directly reserve the SUV via the official website of Fisker. But since most people can’t let go of their phones, Fisker also accepts booking through its mobile application on Apple’s App Store for iOS users and Google Play Store for Android users. Other than this, Fisker wants to digitize the entire process of dealing with the Ocean and which is why Fisker will offer its insurance and finance options through its website.
With all the pricing and booking details covered, let us dive deep into knowing more about the Fisker Ocean. The Ocean is an All-Electric, Zero-Emissions SUV that has dimensions similar to a Honda CR-V or a Toyota RAV-4. The Fisker Ocean, promises a range of 250-300 miles, courtesy of an 80kWh Li-ion battery. The Ocean can be opted with rear-wheel-drive or the all-wheel-drive setup. Multiple sources also suggest that Fisker is developing its own solid-state battery and will fit those into the Ocean sometime later.
However, all this is something that we have come to see in a lot of modern-day EVs. What makes the Fisker Ocean different and special from these vehicles?
Well, it’s the sustainability of this vehicle. Fisker touts the Ocean as the “World’s Most Sustainable Vehicle”. There are multiple reasons behind this claim of theirs.
On the outside, the Ocean will have Solar panels on its roof to provide an approximate range of 1,000 miles per year. Other than that, for weight savings, Fisker has fixed the hood of the Ocean to avoid any latches or seals on the same. The taillight has a wraparound design and high-visibility turn signals that will offer extra safety when changing lanes.
Interiors are where things get really interesting. Fisker says that the interiors are completely VEGAN. There is a use of 100% polycarbonate polyurethane surfaces and 100% reinforced rayon on the inside. The other surfaces have been made out of recycled polyester from t-shirts, water bottles and single-use plastics found in oceans and other water bodies. This is being done to drastically reduce the CO2 emission while manufacturing the Ocean SUV. Even the floor carpet is 100% washable and has been made out of repurposed nylon made from fishing nets found in the ocean.
The Fisker Ocean is 1 out of 3 affordable vehicles planned by this resurging EV maker. After this, Fisker plans to launch the ultra-luxurious EMotion sedan that will breach past the $150,000 mark.
Fisker will reveal the Ocean on January 4, 2020, and that is when we will get insiders’ information on the future plans of the brand.
