The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is eligible for a Top Safety Pick+ designation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), following the improvements in the headlights. The only catch is that the award is only for Outlanders manufactured after June 2021. Mitsubishi modified the standard LED reflector headlights included with all trims to reduce excessive glare.
The 2022 Outlander received "Superior" marks in avoiding collisions with pedestrians and other vehicles during 12 mph and 25-mph tests. The headlights were previously rated as poor, but now they are rated "Good." Consequently, Mitsubishi dealers can offer a free adjustment to the aiming of Outlanders manufactured before the date mentioned above.

The Outlander is equipped with standard LED reflector headlights. They provide excellent visibility both on the sides of the road and in curves. Although the low beams still produce some glare, they are not bright enough to affect the IIHS rating.
IIHS is an autonomous, non-profit group that analyses, conducts evaluations, and evaluates safety ratings in crash testing of production vehicles. The Top Safety Pick+ winners earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests.
