Tesla surprised everyone with the unveiling of Cybertruck, an all-electric pickup truck for the masses, boasting of every possible Tesla technology, superior towing capacity, better performance and tempting price tag. The Tesla Cybertruck was scheduled to enter production in late 2022 and be available to customers as a 2023 model only. However, due to some undisclosed and obvious (global pandemic) reasons, the production of Cybertruck is not expected to start until 2022

Tesla is still accepting reservations for the Cybertruck and we believe that it will be on roads sooner or later, flaunting its unconventional wedge-like body profile. Tesla claims many segment firsts like armored glass, ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel. The Tesla Cybertruck will be offered with adaptive air suspension, flexible interior design with additional underseat storage and 100 cu-ft of exterior lockable storage.

Is the Tesla Cybertruck worth it?
The Tesla Cybertruck’s exterior design does not give a clear idea of its superior performance and practicality. Tesla claims that the Cybertruck models will offer a payload capacity of 3,500 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. The Tesla Cybertruck will be available with three different powertrain options: Single Motor, Dual Motor and Tri Motor. Tesla claims a 0-60 MPH sprint in just 2.9 seconds for the tri-motor model. The Tesla Cybertruck will compete with the likes of Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The Tesla Cybertruck will be available in three trim configurations depending on the powertrain. The base Cybertruck model will start at a MSRP of $39,900 and offer RWD only. The starting price of the dual motor Cybertruck model will be $49,900 while the performance-oriented tri motor model will cost $69,900. The production of the Tesla Cybertruck is delayed beyond 2022 and we think it might enter production sometime in 2023. So, a concrete delivery schedule is not available.

Looking at the limited specifications revealed by Tesla, we believe that the Cybertruck will be an appropriate choice for many EV truck buyers. However, due to unavailability of a clear production schedule and delivery timeline, the Ford F-150 seems to be a better choice right now if you are not willing to wait. The upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV can also be an apt option for many buyers as both the F-150 and Silverado EV are closely matched in terms of space and available equipment group.
