Mitsubishi has released a new trim level for its 2022 Outlander model: the Outlander Black Edition Package. The SUV got a complete redesign for the year 2022, inside and out. The Outlander’s offered configurations consist of five levels: the ES, SE, SE Tech, SEL Special Edition, SEL, and SEL Touring. The Black Edition slots in between the SE Tech and the SEL Special Edition. Priced at $29,995, this trim adds specific black elements to the exterior and interior.
Features-wise, this configuration builds on everything offered on the SE trim and adds standard dual-zone climate control and a power panoramic sunroof. The SE trim level equipment list consists of a keyless entry system with push-button start, heated front seats, LED foglights, LED exterior lighting, hands-free power liftgate with adjustable height, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and heated side mirrors.
Mechanically speaking, the Black Edition adds no changes to the Outlander. The Outlander Black Edition is powered by the same 2.5L I-4 engine that is standard on the Outlander. This engine outputs 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, and is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with front-wheel drive as standard. All-wheel drive is an optional feature on the Black Edition for an extra cost of $1,800.
Mitsubishi calls its AWD system Super All-wheel Control (S-AWC) which has been inspired by the company’s rally tech. The S-AWC adds Active Yaw Control as well which helps to better control the vehicle over rough terrain. The SUV also gets five driving modes to choose from, namely Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Normal. Suspension duties are taken care of by the MacPherson strut setup at the front and a rear multi-link setup at the rear.

On the outside, the Black Edition builds on the new Dynamic Shield front face and design language with a blacked-out look to the front and rear bumper garnish. The door handles, the side mirrors and the 20-inch wheels also come finished in black. Overall, this makes the Outlander look sporty and more aggressive than the other configurations. On the inside, the changes are limited to the black seat headliner and the blacked-out pillars.
The Outlander can seat up to seven passengers in this trim and its seats are made from synthetic leather. Technology-wise, the Outlander gets a 7-inch instrument cluster with an 8-inch infotainment unit that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system gets Bluetooth connectivity, Radio, HD Radio, Mitsubishi Connect with Safeguard and remote services, and wireless charging for smartphones.
The Outlander Black Edition’s safety tech consists of blindspot warning, automatic high beam, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and trailer stability assist. The Outlander was the company’s best-selling model in the North American market, and this new trim is available immediately in dealerships across the country.
In its segment, the Outlander is one of the most value for money SUVs with its practical equipment list, spacious interior, elegant exterior, lots of cargo space, and a long warranty period as well. Pricing for the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander starts from $26,095 with an additional destination charge of $1,195.
