Rivian has announced some changes for the Rivian R1T and the Rivian R1S. First off, less powerful dual-motor variants have been introduced, with a power output of 600 hp. Then, from 2024, the Rivian R1T and the R1S will come with a new standard battery pack with a dual-motor setup. The range offered on the standard battery pack would be around 260 miles. With this offering, Rivian has also revised the pricing for the range. The dual-motor models of the R1T and the R1S will start from $68,575 and $73,575. Quad-motor models will start from $80,575 for the R1T and $85,575 for the R1S.

Rivian will now be expanding its Rivian R1T and R1S lineup with the addition of dual-motor variants and a new Standard battery pack that has a lower range. The quad-motor models will be available as well, but they will get a price hike to accommodate the lower dual-motor R1T and R1S models. Supply chain issues have been a major reason for the addition of these variants. The base model pricing has not been changed by Rivian.

This means that the dual-motor standard battery pack models of the Rivian R1T and the Rivian R1S start from $68,575 and $73,575 respectively. This is a little odd as these were the prices for the quad motor longer range modes, and now the Rivian is less value by offering a lower range at the same base price. The two motors on the new models have been designed, developed, and built by Rivian itself, and the dual-motor models will be available from 2024.

The quad-motors seen on the standard models are taken from a supplier. Comparing the two motors, the ones built by Rivian are lighter and cheaper than the supplier-sourced ones which will indirectly affect the model's pricing. One motor will be placed on either of the axles, and these two are said to output over 600 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Comparatively, the current quad-motor-equipped Rivian models output 835 hp with a torque output of 908 lb-ft.

Rivian has also said that the two motors will propel the truck/ SUV from 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, which is still a respectable number for an electric vehicle. The quad-motor variants sprints from 0-60 MPH in 3 seconds, a second quicker than the dual-motor models. With this new twin-motor models development, Rivian also said that in 2024 a new standard battery pack will be made available.

With the addition of the standard pack, there are a total of three battery packs offered on the Rivian models, the other two being the Large pack and the Max pack. The Large pack is sold with the vehicles as of now, whereas the Max pack will be available from 2023. On the quad-motor Rivian R1T model, the Large pack offers an EPA-estimated range of 314 miles, whereas the Rivian R1S gets an EPA-estimated range of 316 miles.

The new twin-motor Rivian models with the Standard pack will have a driving range of 260 miles. The Large pack and Max pack will boost the range on the twin-motor variants to 320 miles and 400 miles respectively. However, the EPA is yet to certify these range claims. In terms of pricing, The dual-motor Rivian R1T and R1S models with the Large pack are priced at $74,575 and $79,575 respectively.

The quad motor Rivian R1T with the Large pack is now priced at $80,575, whereas the Large pack Rivian R1S costs $85,575. The Max pack is only sold with the Rivian R1T and this configuration is now priced at $90,315. On the other hand, the dual-motor max pack R1T costs $84,575. The dual-motor R1T with the Max pack might just be the best configuration to get in the R1T range. For existing customers who have pre-ordered the Rivian twins, these price hikes will apply, but not for the ones who are in the final stages of getting their Rivian models.
