In a recent tweet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that the initial production models of the Cybertruck will now have a quad-motor setup, along with all-wheel-steering and the ability to do a crabwalk. It is said that the new changes have been made after witnessing the response received by the Rivian R1T & the new GMC Hummer EV. The prices of the Tesla Cybertruck will remain the same at $39,900.

In a recent tweet, the Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that the new Tesla Cybertruck will have a quad-motor setup, similar to the much praised Rivian R1T electric pick-up truck. The Cybertruck was primarily supposed to get a tri-motor setup, shared with the Tesla Model S Plaid. The change has been made in accordance with the response that the 2022 Rivian R1T received from the customers.

The tweet also exclaimed that the Tesla Cybertruck will have “independent, ultra fast response torque control of each wheel” so as to keep up with the other EV pickup truck competitors. The Cybertruck will also be getting a crabwalk feature, which primarily was offered with the all-new GMC Hummer EV. The tri-motor setup from the Tesla Model S Plaid pushes out around 1,100 hp, which was considered as enough for the new Cybertruck.

Since the Tesla Cybertruck has been announced, it has been beaten by the Rivian R1T & as expected by the GMC Hummer EV as well. Both the competitors get a quad-motor setup, which controls each individual wheel. Thanks to the same reason, the Hummer EV & the R1T get some special features, which have been seen for the first time.

For example, the 2022 Rivian R1T can take a complete 360 degree turn, while parked at the same spot. The Hummer EV on the other hand is capable of crawling diagonally like a crab. The new Tesla Cybertruck will surely get the crabwalk feature like the Hummer EV. In another post, Elon Musk also tweeted “Will have both front & rear wheel steer, so not just like a tank – it can drive diagonally like a crab” marking both the Rivian R1T & the Hummer EV at the same time.

The Tesla Cybertruck is already said to complete a 0-60 mph sprint in just about 2.9 seconds. Getting the quad-motor setup, will enable the Cybertruck to gain more traction at each corner, thus enabling a mind-blowing acceleration from a pick-up truck. The Tesla Cybertruck along with a quad-motor setup will now also enjoy the special features, while keeping up with the pace.

The Tesla Cybertruck will have a base price of $39,900, while the two other AWD variants will have a base MSRP of $49,900 & $69,900 respectively. The quad-motor setup will be offered in the initial production models of the Cybertruck while the we might see variants with the tri-motor setup borrowed from the Tesla Model S Plaid.
