The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is one of the most desired mid-size luxury sedans in the market. The E-Class can be said to be a downsized S-Class, as it offers similar S-Class levels of comfort and luxury on the inside which just improves with higher trim levels. The E-Class was the recipient of the Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS for strong safety levels. These ratings extend to the 2022 E-Class sedan as well. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, technically known as the W213 model is based on Mercedes’s modular MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform which is also seen on the smaller C-Class and the larger S-Class models. This platform makes extensive use of aluminum that has helped in reducing the weight while maintaining the car’s rigidity and strength. There is also the usage of high-strength steel in key areas which has further improved the rigidity and reduced chances of severe damage transfer to the passengers in the event of a crash.

Talking about the two awards offered, these are the Top Safety Pick award and Top Safety Pick+ award. Headlight ratings and intensity is what separates these two awards. A minimum rating of ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ for the headlight system is mandatory for the Top Safety Pick award. On the other hand, the Top Safety Pick+ award requires vehicles to feature the same rating across the entire configuration range.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan equipped with the front optional crash prevention system not only secured a rating of ‘Good’ in all the safety tests, but it also qualified for the awards with its headlamps scoring the ‘Good’ as well as ‘Acceptable rating. Its standard crash prevention system got a ‘Basic’ rating, whereas the optional equipment was rated ‘Superior’. The E-Class sedan with the LED projector headlamp setup for both types of beams has received a rating of ‘Good’, whereas the LED reflector setup just got an ‘Acceptable’ rating. The LED projector units are a part of the Exterior Lighting package and are equipped with high-beam assist and are curve adaptable as well, thus earning the “Top Safety Pick+” award.
