Overall Rating
If you are looking forward to being chauffeured around in your car, then the Cadillac DTS should be the perfect companion for you. But the better-equipped rivals do make a better proposition. But the Cadillac DTS is such a car that gets as American as a car could.
The Cadillac DTS is one such car that has defined and redefined the ideas of an American luxury car in the years of its existence. It follows the classic Cadillac sense of aesthetics in the exterior and comes loaded with luxury features that can make the occupants cozy up in no time. Also, the price point which is on the higher side for the base model doesn’t help the cause of this stunner. The DTS ranges in price from $46,680 for the base model and all the way up to $59,875 for the top-end Platinum.
We would recommend you to go with the top-end Premium trim as it gets a more powerful engine, bigger wheels, better suspension, along with driver aids such as adaptive cruise control and navigation system with real-time traffic updates, which can be really helpful while traveling long distances.

We Recommend
We would recommend you to go with the top-end Premium trim as it gets a more powerful engine, bigger wheels, better suspension, along with driver aids such as adaptive cruise control and navigation system with real-time traffic updates, which can be really helpful while traveling long distances.
The Cadillac DTS comes loaded with a meaty 4.6-liter V8 engine which makes about 275 hp of power and 295 pound-feet of torque. In the costlier Platinum trim, the same engine is made to churn out 292 hp and 288 lb-ft of torque.
But the power difference between the two isn’t too significant. The DTS strictly focuses on passenger comfort rather than performance and this can be seen in the handling and acceleration of the car. Things do get much better in terms of performance in the Platinum version though.

The most powerful car among these three sedans is the Hyundai Genesis. It makes about 290hp in the base model itself. However, the DTS has the highest torque output which makes it better at accelerating with its big body. This can also translate into better highway mileage as well as performance.
The Cadillac with its big 4.6-liter V8 engine doesn’t offer the best of the MPG figures as its class competitors offer better fuel efficiency. The Cadillac DTS with its base engine offers 15 mpg in the city and manages to return 23mpg on the highway.

The best in class MPG figures are being offered by the Hyundai Genesis, it offers 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Lincoln also follows in closely with the city figures but fails to keep up with Genesis on the highway. Cadillac performs poorly against the competition in this aspect.
The interior is where the Cadillac DTS really leaves its mark. The very luxurious interior of the car offers one of the coziest experiences to its passengers.
It feels very spacious and this is the same for both the front and rear seats. The refinement is high as most of the noises from the exterior don't reach the well-concealed interiors of the car.

The legroom offered by the Cadillac in the front row is clearly the highest on offer, which is 41.6 inches. But, at the back, the best dimensions are offered by the Lincoln MKS. In terms of cargo space, the DTS has the upper hand with 18.8cu-ft but the lincoln closely follows this number with an 18.7cu-ft. Some of the interior features are:
The infotainment system offered along with the Cadillac isn’t exactly a modern-day infotainment system, it doesn’t come with touch screens or fancy navigation and crispy menus. It’s mostly digital, but it does get good speakers and connectivity options to keep the passengers busy. Some of its features are:
The DTS easily manages to give away the true blue American vibe that it is supposed to have. It is a large luxury sedan and it strictly speaks class with its looks.
The Cadillac stands close to the class standards in terms of its dimensions.

The lightest car among the three is the Hyundai Genesis which weighs 3748lbs, while both of its competitors weigh north of 4000lbs. The new Cadillac happens to be the longest car among the three, while the other Lincoln is better in terms of width and height. The exterior features are:
The Cadillac DTS doesn’t have the best in class safety ratings. It merely makes a mark above the average. It hasn’t been tested by the NHTSA as per its new norms, but it has been tested by the IIHS and it has scored a “Good" rating in frontal-offset crash tests and an “Acceptable" rating in side-impact testing. The safety features are:
The lack of features and the poor safety ratings makes the Cadillac DTS a poor choice of purchase. But if you are someone with a taste for Old-school American charm and likes the performance of the chunky V8 then you would certainly enjoy this car. The car definitely offers good performance and comfortable cruising for its driver and passengers.
