Overall Rating
There are various products in this world that are not practical and one hardly has any real use of them, but yet people crave for them.
There are various products in this world that are not practical and one hardly has any real use of them, but yet people crave for them. From gold-plated phones to customized yachts and planes, and then there is the Cadillac Escalade. One simply does not buy the Escalade for its size, space, capabilities, or sheer power, it has a lot more than that. It has a different aura and personality that it exudes that makes people crave for it.
Since the base trim is offered loaded with all the latest and greatest that most other manufacturers have on offer, there is no need to go higher than that. While opting for the AWD would increase the practicality but if budget is not a constraint at all, then opting for the top trim would provide a one-of-a-kind experience in this all-American SUV.

The 2011 Escalade is offered in four trims as standard with an option to choose between an RWD and AWD drivetrain with each trim. The base trim comes packed to the brim with all the necessary features and then some more while going up the trim ladder adds more luxury and premiumness with each trim.

The Cadillac Escalade is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that churns out 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque, which is one of the best in the segment, if not the best.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission while the power is sent to the rear wheels as standard. The performance is exceptional for this mammoth SUV as it not only has an extraordinary towing capacity but is also very quick off the line.

The Lincoln Navigator is the most affordable product in this lineup but also has the smallest engine and lowest engine output, which puts it last in this performance comparison. The Lexus on the other hand is a lot more expensive than the other two but it too cannot match up with the performance of the Escalade but does outperform the Navigator convincingly. It is also the only SUV that features a 4WD as standard.
The huge luxury SUV with powerful brawny V8 engines are never really supposed to be efficient and the Escalade does not even try to be one. The EPA rates the 2011 Escalade for 14 mpg of city driving and 18 mpg of highway cruising, while the combined city and highway cruising is limited to 16 mpg. Real-world conditions and the inclusion of the 4WD system make things even worse for this Caddy. The large 26-gallon fuel tank does offer a bit of respite but the combined driving range is still limited to under 400 miles in real-world scenarios.

The Lincoln Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade both offer almost identical fuel economy figures, with the only difference being higher highway efficiency ratings for the Navigator. Add to that the larger gas tank on offer, the Navigator has a superior driving range in comparison. The Lexus on the other hand has higher fuel consumption and also employs a much smaller fuel tank, leading to a limited driving range.
The cabin of the new Cadillac Escalade feels pretty plush, offering ample amounts of leather, faux wood, and alloy trims that make the cabin look attractive. The second row can be had with either captain seats or as a bench seat, while the third row of seats does not fold flat in the floor, making it difficult to carry luggage.Â
There is plenty of room for the front and second-row seats but the third row is pretty cramped and is best suited for kids only. The option of the removable third row of seats means that it opens up about 60 cu-ft luggage space while folding down the second row offers about 108 cu-ft of cargo space.Â

The Cadillac may have the best luggage carrying capacity amongst the three, but the third of seats in the least comfortable of them all. The Lexus LX 570 has a bit more space at the front and the last row, but compromises on the middle row space and cargo capacity as well. The Navigator offers the most spacious cabin and has abundant legroom even in the last row.Â
The 2011 Escalade employs the latest and greatest technology that GMC has to offer on the electronics front. The upgraded navigation system is a gem to use while the gauges and controls are well aligned and very well placed, which makes it easier to operate. The standard Bose sound system is just out of this world while the optional rear-seat entertainment takes things up a notch further.
The Cadillac Escalade has a towering and imposing road presence over most cars on road today and its huge dimensions with attractive styling mark the arrival of somebody important everywhere you take it.
The larger front grille with chrome embellishments and the large vertical headlights give it an aggressive front fascia while the chrome-clad wheels with tasteful chrome trims around the car make it feel more premium.

The excessive space on offer inside the Navigator’s cabin is due to its additional length and longer wheelbase. It also has the highest ground clearance to offer, although there isn’t much difference in the ride heights of the other two SUVs. The Lexus on the other hand is the most compact amongst the three and yet weighs the most.
Most Escalade buyers are important personalities in their own fields and hence Cadillac does not compromise in terms of safety with this SUV in any which way. It features a handful of safety features and driver aids which helps it score an overall 4-star rating out of the possible 5-stars from the NHTSA, while the IIHS has not yet crash-tested the car yet.
The Cadillac Escalade is more of a status symbol than a practical or reliable SUV that one would buy for their family. It isn’t very frugal or affordable while the reliability isn’t up to the mark as well, add to that the high rate of theft that this SUV sees, it does put its buyers in a pickle. But for that much money, you get a premium luxury SUV that is powerful enough to tow a motorhome and also has abundant space on the inside to be able to aid in moving houses.
