Overall Rating
The fabulous Lincoln Navigator returns for the 2011 model year with some minor interior feature changes and remains untouched from the outside. The SUV gets a heavy dose of chrome details on the outside that looks quite flashy and also has a capable performance as well with its sizable 5.4liter V8 motor.
The market for large brawny full-size SUVs with large engines under the hood might not be the same today as it was a few years ago, thanks to the high fuel prices, global economic downturn, and growing concern for our environment. That being said, Lincoln Navigator still continues to be a status symbol with its eye-catchy design, luxurious ride, and loads of bling to grab eyeballs wherever it goes.
Although the car is now four years old in its current generation, Lincoln has made sure to give it that extra touch to make it feel worth spending that extra money with the addition of features like HD Radio and a rear-seat entertainment screen. The MSRP of the 2011 Navigator starts at $58,625, and it competes against the rival Cadillac Escalade and the Infiniti QX56.
With only a single trim available, there is nothing to choose from. That being said, opting for the 4WD adds to the practicality of SUV and aids in adverse weather conditions. The standalone trim of the SUV comes with all that could be called premium for a vehicle of the segment.

The 2011 Lincoln Navigator is only available with a single trim with either a rear-wheel or a 4-wheel drive drivetrain. There is also an extended wheelbase Navigator L version available that is reviewed separately. The Navigator gets all the latest technology and creature comforts, alongside premium quality materials to justify the higher price tag of what is essentially a glorified Ford F-150.

The Lincoln Navigator is powered by a 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood, and the power is sent to the rear wheels as standard.
There is also an option for a 4-wheel drive setup, and the engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Despite having a large capacity engine, it produces just 310 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque, which translates to a 0-60 mph run in just 8 seconds while the quarter-mile takes 16.3 seconds.

The Infiniti QX56 has a similarly sized engine that produces much higher power and torque figures while the Cadillac Escalade has a little more than that. Yet the QX56 is the fastest of the lot with the Escalade right behind it. They both have a similar towing capacity as well, while the Navigator lacks behind in both the acceleration and towing capabilities.
The large capacity engines are not really known for their frugality, and the Lincoln Navigator is no different. The EPA rates the V8-powered 2011 Lincoln for 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highways, while the combined city and highway fuel economy is rated at 16 mpg. It employs a large 28-gallon gas tank, which aids in offering a long driving range which is just 450 miles of combined driving on a single tank of gas.

Having a look at the table, it is clear that all three SUVs are equally high on fuel consumption with hardly anything to differentiate between them. The Escalade and the QX56 both employ a smaller fuel tank, which reduces their driving range as compared to the Navigator, but other than that, there is not much of a difference.
The Lincoln Navigator offers a premium, posh, and upmarket cabin for anyone who likes to travel in style. It makes use of high-quality materials, the build quality is top-notch, and it also offers almost all the latest technology available at this price point.
There is acres of space for people virtually throughout the cabin, and even the third row of seats can accommodate adults with reasonable comfort. The luggage carrying capacity is also one of the best in the business and is more than what an average buyer might need.Â

The Cadillac Escalade has similarly sized front and second-row space, like that of the Navigator, but the third row is the most compact one and can hardly fit kids. The Infiniti lacks a bit of space in the front row but compensates with a more spacious second and third row, but overall, the Navigator is the one that offers the perfect balance of passenger and cargo space. Major interior features include-Â
The Navigator offers Ford’s SYNC infotainment system alongside the optional rear set of screens, part of the rear-seat entertainment system. The 14-speaker THX audio system is a treat for all the audiophiles out there, while the voice activation function is a rather handy feature to have.
Navigation and satellite radio are also a part of the package and Lincoln has newly added HD Radio for the 2011 model year. Few key interior features include-
The large and imposing look of the SUV is accentuated by making use of abundant chrome all around the car. Apart from the front grille, the outside mirror caps, side windows, door handles, and even the wheels resemble chrome effect.
We personally find it too much for our liking, but if you are the one with a liking for the bling, the 2011 Navigator should just do the trick for you.

The Lincoln Navigator and the Infiniti QX56 both have similar exterior dimensions and also have an identical ground clearance with the only difference being the curb weight. The Infiniti is on the lighter side and is also wider than the Navigator. The Escalade is considerably smaller than the other two and also weighs the least, although it also offers a similar ground clearance. Major exterior features include-
Ther Lincoln Navigator caters to a niche premium market and hence does not create a large volume of sales, and that’s probably why, neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has crash-tested the 2011 Navigator for their crash test reports. But considering the high class and important people that consider buying the Navigator, Lincoln offers a host of safety and driver aids to provide a safe haven for all its buyers and their families. A highlight of those features is listed down below.
The Navigator may not be the freshest product available in this segment, but the value it offers in terms of luxury, comfort, and available features is unparalleled. The list of standard and optional features is exhaustive and so is the passenger and cargo space. Thus, if performance is not really in your priority list and space is on top of it, the 2011 Lincoln Navigator should definitely be on your test-drive list.
