Both the trims available with the 2011 Nissan Maxima house a similar 3.5-liter V6 engine and thus provide similar performance. But the SV trim adds multiple features above the S trim that proves to be very valuable for the in-cabin experience. Thus with an additional $2,000, the SV provides a better value for the money spent.

The 2011 Nissan Maxima is available in a single engine option of 3.5-liter V6. The engine generates 290 HP along with 261 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated with the continuously variable automatic transmission that delivers the power to the front wheels as standard.

This engine setup provides a quick acceleration of 5.8 seconds to reach the 60 MPH mark from a standstill, while to cover the quarter-mile distance, the Nissan Maxima takes 14.2 seconds. The Maxima also has a much higher top speed of 147 mph as compared to its rivals.

While the Nissan Maxima is the most powerful in this comparison, it is followed by the Mazda 6 with a power output of 272 HP. The 2011 Honda Accord is not far behind the Mazda with a power output of 271 HP. The Mazda has a slightly bigger 3.7-liter engine while the Honda Accord has a similar setup of 3.5-liter V6 as that of the Nissan Maxima. Even with a bigger engine set up, the Honda Accord beats the Mazda on 0 to 60 MPH acceleration with 6.1 seconds, while the Mazda takes 7.4 seconds.

The high-powered 3.5-liter V6 engine provides a decent fuel economy in the 2011 Nissan Maxima. The Maxima provides a mileage of 19 MPG in the city, which improves to 26 MPG on the highway.
