Overall Rating
The Ram 2500 is a full-size, three-quarter-ton pickup truck. The Ram 2500HD model mostly mirrors the generations of the half-ton Ram 1500 (introduced in 1981). However, the 2500 models feature a more sturdy, full-boxed frame when compared to their lighter 1500 siblings. In addition, the largest engine on the 1500 model(5.7-liter V-8) is the smallest engine offering on the 2500 models.
Last year's redesign brought the Ram pickup wide acclaim, and the 2011 Ram 2500 boasts a few features that keep it in the thick of the fight for supremacy in this competitive market segment. The much-improved cabin has an attractive design and high-quality materials, making the Ram the leader in this area. Ride comfort is also commendable, thanks to a relatively forgiving suspension, hydraulic cab-to-frame mounts, and low levels of road and wind noise.

The 2011 Ram 2500 is a top pick for a heavy-duty truck thanks to its top-notch interior, comfortable ride quality, and impressive towing and hauling capabilities. The base model, ST would be the ideal pick out of the two trims if you are opting for a regular cab body size. If you want an all out truck in regular cab variant, then go for the SLT trim.

The 2011 Ram 2500 heavy-duty pickup is available in three cab styles: regular, Crew Cab, and Mega Cab (a jumbo crew cab). The regular cab comes with a long bed only, while the Crew Cab has either a short or long cargo bed. The Mega Cab rides on the same wheelbase as the Crew Cab long bed, but it combines an even bigger cabin with a short bed. The regular cab comes in ST or SLT trims; the Crew Cab in ST, SLT, or Laramie trims; and the Mega Cab in SLT or Laramie only.

Opting for the diesel will also get you an exhaust brake. Typically seen only on big rigs, an exhaust brake provides additional stability and braking power when towing very heavy loads. And those loads can be quite substantial. The Ram 2500 has a maximum tow rating of 20,000 pounds with the gasoline engine or the manual-equipped diesel. That rises to 22,000 with the automatic and diesel engine.
The Dodge Ram 2500 is big and ginormous in every aspect. This spectrum does not do justice to it but it still fares decently in fuel figures. The pickup offers 14 mpg in the city, 11 on the highway, and 13 mpg combined. When comparing the fuel capacity, Ram offers the least at 35 gallons.

Heavy-duty trucks are not rated for fuel economy. It is obvious that they are going to be massively low because they are bought for the work, not for the pleasure they provide. Said that, the RAM 2500's fuel economy has not been officially tested, but it returns a combined fuel economy of 13mpg. The figures in the table are an approximation of what they could be.
While we applaud Ram’s use of higher-grade plastics and handsome trim, the best part of the 2011 Ram Heavy Duty’s cabin space is the impressively long list of available features. Depending on the trim, the Ram HD can be equipped with heating elements for the steering wheel and rear seats, heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable foot pedals – the list goes on and on.

The Ram 2500HD’s enormous center console can swallow a large laptop computer and a set of hanging files, while the rest of the cab offers cup holders, storage bins, and electrical outlets galore. For the 2011 RAM 2500 HD, standard feature highlights on a base-priced 2011 RAM Heavy Duty ST include a six-speaker AM/FM, CD, and MP3 audio system. The 2011 Ram HD is as tech-savvy as it is tough, with an options list that includes navigation, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB music connectivity, 30-gigabyte hard drive, and 10-speaker Surround Sound. The 2011 Ram Heavy Duty is available in three cab styles (Regular, Crew Cab, and Mega Cab), two box sizes (6 feet 4 inches and 8 feet) plus single- and dual-rear-wheel configurations. Constructed on a strong chassis that’s modular in design to allow multiple configurations for cabin size and box length, the heavy-duty Ram dominates the road with forceful exterior styling and power.
Dressed in some serious sheet metal, the heavy-duty Rams look strong, assertive, and impossible to miss. A massive get-out-of-my-way prow dominates the design with the stair-step hood of a big-rig Peterbilt and a forward-tipped horse-collar grille scored in crosshair chrome. More chrome coats a fat-lip bumper etched with fog lamps at both ends.

The 2011 Ram 2500 HD is distinguished from the Ram 1500 by a notably larger grille and taller hood (with stamped louvers) and unique bumpers. When placed next to the next Ford and Chevy heavy duties, we still think the Ram is the most stylish of the three. The dimension figures are almost similar in all three trucks. Major exterior highlights of the pickup are-
The 2011 RAM 2500 HD has not been rated by either NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) or IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Standard safety equipment for the 2011 Ram 2500 includes antilock disc brakes and side curtain airbags. Optional on the SLT and standard on the Laramie are power-adjustable pedals. The Dodge RAM HD comes to a stop from 60 mph in 141 feet, which is about average for a heavy-duty pickup. Some standout safety features of the pickup include-
Buying a truck is a truly personal experience, and brand loyalty is especially strong in this segment of the market. Once a Ram fan, you are most likely always a Ram fan. Like 2010, the 2011 model boasts more style and power than in the past and can haul almost anything. While somewhat lagging behind the new Ford and Chevy products in certain statistics, there’s still a lot to be said for the incredible Cummins power plant and unique offerings.
