Overall Rating
Most of the Audi’s that you can buy today come in three levels: The A, the S, and the R. Every level that you climb, you add two things more: happiness and fun. Also, satisfaction.
Most of the Audi’s that you can buy today come in three levels: The A, the S, and the R. Every level that you climb, you add two things more: happiness and fun. Also, satisfaction. This 3-level formula has worked well for Audi and the audience too. The S5 is a no different story. It is unchanged from last year and is just pure entertainment to drive. The S5 offers tremendous performance coupled with astounding interiors.
We recommend the Premium Plus with the automatic transmission. The Premium Plus offers a lot of features, and also important safety features can be added over on the Premium Plus with the packages. We recommend the Navigation package. It adds a few important features and can close to the top trim.

The 4dr is powered by a 4.2 L V8 that produces 354 hp @7000 rpm and 325 lb.-ft @3500 rpm. This engine gets a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automated transmission. Customer feedbacks and discussion forums all indicated that the automatic transmission is a better transmission to choose than the manual. Both the cars are Rear-wheel driven.

The S5 Coupe is slightly faster than the other two cars in the 0-60 mph at 5.4 seconds. The BMW clears the 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and the E-Class takes 5.8 seconds for the same. but in contrast, for the quarter-mile drag time, the S5 Coupe is quicker than the other two by more than one and a half-second, at 12.1 seconds.
The BMW and the E-Class take 13.8 and 14.4 seconds respectively. That’s a very strong performance against the likes of those two sports coupes. The driving of the Audi is also very planted and responsive. The only place where the E-Class shines is the top-speed. It has a top speed of nearly 170 mph whereas the other two are in the early 160 mph mark.
The economy of this new Audi S5 is under par with the economy of the other rivals in this segment. The S5 Coupe outputs a fuel efficiency number of 14 mpg for the city and 22 mpg for the highway. This is for manual transmission. The automatic transmission variant outputs 16 mpg for the city and 24 mpg for the highway. The tank capacity stands at 21.1-gallons.

The range on the S5 Coupe is demotivating with an under 300 miles mark for the city and around 464 miles for the highway. The car is close to the 335i in terms of efficiency, as the small 16.1-gallon tank of the 335i offers a range of 305 city miles and 450 highway miles. These numbers are not much, but when you look at what the Mercedes offers you wish both the companies offered better. The E-Class has pretty good mileage, but the range is huge at 418 city miles and a really long 616 highway miles! This was with the 7-speed automatic, however.
The interior on the S5 Coupe does not let you down and instead leaves you in awe. The design language followed by Audi on the inside, with the driver-centric controls and well-laid-out dash is a boon for anyone. The interiors are top-notch. The usage of leather and aluminum trims on the inside gives the car a very premium feel. Materials are soft, textured, and well-finished. You cannot complain much about this interior. Full marks to Audi!

The seating and the comfort offered in the S5 Coupe are what you can generally expect from any other coupe. The front seats are sporty, well-contoured, and cushioned. You feel immersed in the car, which is a nice feeling to have. There is no compromise on visibility at all. The rear seating comfort is uh… there. A bit short on the head and legroom. Trunk storage is also decent, at 12.4 cubic feet. The Merc offers a massive 16 cubic feet trunk though. A few interior features are:
The infotainment unit of the S5 Coupe offers good features and feels premium overall. The standard features are the dash-mounted Multimedia Interface (MMI), CD player, satellite radio, iPod interface, CD player with 10 speaker system. The Navigation package adds center-console mounted MMI controls, voice controls, HD radio, and a navigation system with real-time traffic. The higher Premium trim gets the Navigation package as standard and a 14 speaker Bang & Olufsen speaker system as well. Optional equipment includes the 14 speakers Bang & Olufsen speaker system. Some standout infotainment features include:
The exterior on the S5 Coupe falls in line with the signature Audi styling treatment. The front is calm and silent with the rectangular headlamps which have the long grille cut-out in the center. The front bottom has a sculpted fender with chrome-surround fog lights. The side view shows a muscular design with a long hood and a short rear.
The windows are big and make the cabin feel roomy. The rear pillar is massive but does not hinder the outside rearview. The rear is simple, with LED taillights, an S badging on the boot door, and finished with a sporty dual exhaust.

The E-Class sits very close to the ground at 3 inches. This gives the car a very sporty overall profile. The S5 Coupe gets a 4.1 inches ground clearance. Combined with its overall proportions, it does not look as sporty as the E-Class but has a very Grand Tourer feel to it. It is very well dimensioned, with nothing being too big or too small. Except for the height. The wheelbases of all the three cars are very similar as well, at 108 inches. Some of the exterior features are:
The new Audi S5 has not received any crash testing ratings from the government. The last year’s S5 Coupe did well on the safety front so we believe that has been carried forward. The car has dual front and side airbags, curtain airbags, stability and traction control, and antilock disc brakes. There are some optional safety equipment features which we believe should have been made standard. These are the blind-spot warning system, the rear-view camera, and the rear parking sensors. A few safety features are listed below:
The Audi S5 is superb and we could not ask more. It offers a great balance in all three zones, comfort, performance, and handling. The safety features are immense, but we wish the optional ones were standard fitment as they are a necessity now. the fuel economy has taken a shot, and that is a point that stands against the S5 Coupe. You already pay more than $50,000 for this car, so at this point, the economy can be something you can cope up with. Our verdict says that if someone asks me to spend $50,000 on a coupe car, this is what we’d pick.
