Overall Rating
The sedan received a major design overhaul in the 2011 model year and comes with some major mechanical changes such as a new 8-speed automatic transmission and optional AWD layout for V6 powered models.
The Chrysler 300 received a massive overhaul last year and which is why it returns for the 2012 model year with little to no changes. The 2012 Chrysler 300 gets a 292-hp V6 motor as standard and customers can also opt for a more powerful V8 as well. Paired to these engines is an all-new 8-speed transmission that is slick with power delivery and great with gas mileage as well. The 300S gets a sportier styling overall with a red-leather interior available as an option. One of the other changes to the lineup is the introduction of the new SRT8 model that comes with a 6.4-liter V8 generating 470 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque
On the inside, the Chrysler 300 gets a slew of bells and whistles as standard and despite being based on an older-gen E-Class from Mercedes, the ride quality on offer is just stupendous and will make you go the distance quite easily and with much comfort. Rivals of the Chrysler 300 include the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CTS, Ford Taurus, Hyundai Genesis, Volkswagen Passat, and the sedan's own sibling, the Dodge Charger.
We would recommend you the S V6 model if you prefer comfort and luxury over performance. But the S V8 is for those who seek performance at a decent price. The SRT8 is perfect for those who know how to properly tame that monstrous power output from the motor.

The Chrysler 300 sedan is offered in five trim levels and with two drivetrain layouts i.e RWD and AWD. The price of the Base trim starts at $27,670 and comes in a decently equipped form. For the 2012 model year, the high-performance and fun-to-drive SRT8 trim has returned and it comes with an RWD setup making it an absolute beast of a machine. The moment you decide to slap on a V8 into the sedan’s engine bay, the price bumps quite much, and the feature list also increases generously.

We would recommend you the S V6 model if you prefer comfort and luxury over performance. But the S V8 is for those who seek performance at a decent price. The SRT8 is perfect for those who know how to properly tame that monstrous power output from the motor.
The 2012 Chrysler 300 comes with an interesting powertrain choices and caters to every category of customers and makes the adrenaline-lovers happy with its hig-performance SRT8 trim. In it sbasic form, the sedna is powered by a sizable 3.6liter V6 motor. The motor perfectly blends power and refinement while delifvering a sporty performance.
The motor generates a peak horsepower of 292 and a peak torque of 260lb-ft. The sedan can complete the 0-60mph run in under 7.1 seconds which is not bad for a luxury sedan. The V6 is punchy enough to handle most of the driving requirements starting from daily office commute to triple digit long highway cruises.

The Dodge Charger comes with a similar powertrain as the 300 sedan and offers exactly the same amount of power figures. The Buick LaCrosse also comes with a 3.6liter V6 motor but produces a slightly better horsepower and torque output. The Hyundai Genesis is on the premium side of the price range but offers a strong power and a healthy torque output and it essentially puts the 300 sedan into a perfect value for money offering category.
Luxury sedans with sizable V8s under their hoods are less likely to be as fuel efficient as a compact budget sedan with a four-pot motor and the Chrysler 300 is no exception. The sedan with its basic V6 motor returns a decent mileage of 18mpg in urban territories while the number rises to 27mpg out on the highways. The combined mileage stands at 23mpg. The sedan also comes with a big 19gallons gas tank from which you can extract a decent amount of overall driving range.

The Dodge Charger is the mechanical-twin of the 300 sedan hence offers the same fuel economy figures while the Buick LaCrosse is slightly lesser in terms of the mpg ratings. The Hyundai Genesis also offers identical mpg ratings barring the highway mpg which is slightly better than the rivals at 23mpg.
The cabin of the 2012 Chrysler 300 sedan is not extraordinary or heavily plush. But it is quite classy even in its base form and might make luxury car buyers reconsider their buying decisions about other fancy luxury cars. The interior cabin is filled with high-quality materials and feels quite premium. The seats are well cushioned and offer a good amount of bolstering.
The headroom is a bit on the lower side when compared to big sedans such as the Volkswagen Passat owing to its low roofline, but the dimensions are more than enough for an average built adult. There are a generous amount of storage cubbies around the cabin and the 16.3 cu-ft of trunk space will serve you well in most situations.

The Dodge Charger is similar to the 300 sedan in terms of dimensions but lacks the premium fit and finish of the former. The Buick LaCrosse is the least spacious sedan on the list while the Genesis has acres of space inside with an impressive headroom for the front passengers.
The 2012 Chrysler 300 sedan comes with a fantastic infotainment system. The system comes with a big 8.4-inch touchscreen display and incorporates Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment interface.
The user interface is easy to use and the onscreen menu icons are easy to view. The system comes with some basic standard features such as a USB port and satellite radio. Some available features include hands-free texting capabilities, text-to-speech capabilities on incoming texts, and voice command navigation.
Some highlighted features of the navigation system are listed below:
The Chrysler 300 sedan looks quite American from the outside with its distinctive love-it or hate-it design. The front end looks quite nice after the recent update with a set of smaller headlights wearing an LED eyeliner and a chrome-clad striped front grille.
The fenders are sleeker and the sculpted out wheel arches give a slightly muscular appeal. The rear-end looks a bit weird with a boxy trunk lit and narrow tube tail lights. But the dual exhaust pipes do make a significant difference in giving an overall handsome look to the rear-end of the sedan.

The Dodge Charger again matches with the 300 sedan evenly in the exterior dimensions as well but lacks the premium and classy appeal of the sedan. The Buick LaCrosse measures smaller than the 300 in every aspect and it follows the Hyundai Genesis sedan closely.
The Chrysler 300 sedan doesn’t compromise on the safety aspect while offering a luxury experience. The sedan comes with excellent safety ratings from both the NHTSA and the IIHS. The federal government organization gave it an overall 5-stars and the IIHS gave the best possible “Good” rating. The sedan comes with several standard safety techs such as traction control and plenty of airbags. Several available safety techs include lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring system.
Some highlighted safety techs onboard the sedan are listed below:
The Chrysler 300 sedan is a true American luxury car from every aspect starting from its looks and design. On the inside there is no lack of features and the sedan offers a generous performance even in its base form. The car also appeals to the performance seekers with its mighty SRT8 trim at a reasonable price tag. Overall, it is a good value for money sedan when compared against its rivals out on the market.
