Overall Rating
The 2013 Acura ILX is a compact luxury sedan in a segment with heavy competition. It has great significance in establishing the brand’s presence as an upmarket luxury manufacturer with prices starting at $26,900.
The 2013 Acura ILX is a compact luxury sedan in a segment with heavy competition. It has great significance in establishing the brand’s presence as an upmarket luxury manufacturer with prices starting at $26,900. It is based on the Honda Civic but comes with much better features. It is available with a 2.0L Inline 4-cylinder engine and comes mated with a five-speed automatic transmission.
As we mentioned, the standard feature list on the Acura ILX is pretty generous. Coming with full power accessories, dual-zone automatic climate control, and so on, it is quite a delight especially at the price point it is offered at. For all these reasons combined, we feel that the Base trim makes for a better buy as it comes at a great price and is also being sold in large numbers.

The 2013 Acura ILX comes with the choice of two engines. The base engine is a 2.0L four-cylinder that generates 150 hp and 140 pound-feet of torque. This power is then sent to the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission.
Performance is underwhelming compared to most cars in its class, with 0 to 60 mph in around 9 seconds, and quarter-mile is completed around 16.5 seconds, which is way below the class benchmark. However, it is also offered in a different and more powerful 2.4L Inline four-cylinder engine that produces 201 hp and 170 pound-feet of torque. However, this is only available with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel-drive.

As we said, Acura falls short of the benchmark in terms of performance in its class. Although it is quite close to the Civic in terms of power, it does not have the same performance when you look at real-world figures. The Audi A3 is significantly faster but also much more expensive. The Acura with the 2.4L is a much better bet in terms of performance. When comparing the top speed, all the sedans come with a top speed of 130 mph.
The fuel efficiency ratings of the Acura are also excellent. The powertrain is quite frugal and returns an EPA estimated 29 MPG in the combined cycle. This means that it can return 25 mpg in the city and 35 MPG on the highway. The fuel tank is quite decently large at 13.2 gallons, and this results in the car achieving a range of 330 miles inside the city and 462 miles on the highway, which is quite respectable.

We see that the Honda Civic is more fuel-efficient despite being a little more powerful. The Audi A3 is also interesting because it returns better fuel efficiency with decent performance. The A3 strikes the best balance in the segment, and also has excellent range because it has the highest tank capacity of the lot. The Acura ILX, on the other hand, is the least fuel-efficient but not by a big margin.
The interior of the Acura is supremely well-designed, but one will not find that it is a huge jump in terms of material quality when compared to the Honda Civic. The design, however, feels like it is purposefully restrained but carries off the overall theme quite well.
However, what it has done right is that it provides a lot of standard convenience features that make the experience quite pleasurable inside the car. Seats are also very good and supportive, and the space inside is also generous. The trunk capacity is also decent at 12.3 cubic feet.

Even though the Acura offers a decent amount of interior space, its competitors offer excellent space for its passengers. The Civic feels very spacious and comfortable inside, although it is lower on the corporate ladder when compared to the Acura. When it comes to cargo capacity, the most is offered by Acura and Audi both at 12.3 cubic feet, followed by the Honda Civic nipping at their heels with 12.1 cubic feet. Some of its interior features include:
The 2013 Acura ILX has a nice though basic infotainment system that has enough features and is very easy to use. There is a 5-inch display with a touchscreen interface. The controls for this display are very functional and intuitive to use. A larger touchscreen system is an optional feature. The sound system is also excellent with decent output. The main infotainment features of the 2013 Acura ILX sedan include:
The 2013 Acura ILX is a freshly introduced model, and hence everything is new for us. It is one of the better-looking cars in the segment. It is pretty much on par with the class average in dimensions and certainly makes it one of the modest dimensions of the segment.
However, the exterior design makes it seem much larger, which is a good thing. The sedan weighs 3,093 lbs and stands 5.3 inches above the ground.

The Honda Civic is the largest car in its segment but does not add that penalty in terms of weight. The Audi, on the other hand, is the smallest in terms of dimensions, but the heaviest in terms of weight. The Acura strikes a middle ground and is still of modest dimensions but in a way that it does not compromise space on the inside. Some of its standout exterior features include:
Acura has an excellent reputation for safety. The ILX is then a good candidate for its cause as it has scored five stars out of five in the NHTSA crash test and an overall score of ‘Good’ in the IIHS crash tests. It also has excellent brakes, which bring it to a stop from 60 mph in just 121 feet. The sedan has a variety of safety features, some standout ones are listed below:
The 2013 Acura ILX is an excellent new entrant in the segment of compact luxury cars. It is an upmarket option but comes at a great price compared to its siblings. It has great styling and decent build quality as well while still remaining frugal in terms of fuel consumption and maintenance costs. It is definitely a car that we would recommend to someone.
