Overall Rating
The idea of a sporty, practical and luxurious, and yet affordable sedan seems absurd even to hear about but have a look at the Acura TSX and it will surprise you by checking off all of the mentioned boxes.
The idea of a sporty, practical and luxurious, and yet affordable sedan seems absurd even to hear about but have a look at the Acura TSX and it will surprise you by checking off all of the mentioned boxes. Though it may not be as compelling an option as some of the German rivals, the immense value that it offers for first-time luxury sedan buyers is something that is difficult to match for most cars in the market.
Although the base trim is enough to keep all its buyers pampered, it does lack a bit of flair, and thus opting for the technology package with the optional V6 engine makes sense as even with these options, the TSX still manages to undercut the rivals in terms of pricing.

The 2013 TSX is offered in a single fully loaded trim which gets all the features that Acura has to offer in its entry-level luxury sedan. That being said, there are a couple of optional packages which add more features to the mix that makes it an even more exciting prospect. There is also an optional V6 engine to choose from which offers great performance and fun to drive attribute to the car.

Although the base trim is enough to keep all its buyers pampered, it does lack a bit of flair, and thus opting for the technology package with the optional V6 engine makes sense as even with these options, the TSX still manages to undercut the rivals in terms of pricing.
The 2013 TSX is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as standard which produces 201 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 3.5-liter V6 engine on offer that is rated at 280 hp and 254 lb-ft, and both these engines are mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The power is sent to the front wheels only and there is no option for an AWD. the performance from the base engine is lackluster and despite tout handling, it does not offer the fun element that the TSX is capable of.

The Mercedes C-Class is the most expensive car in this comparison but is also the quickest off the mark. The Audi A4 has the highest engine output, but the CVT transmission spoils the party here making it the slowest amongst the three Germans. The BMW on the other hand has the least amount of power on offer and yet it manages to be faster than both the Acura and Audi.
The lower performance from the base engine might make people believe that it might be a very frugal engine, but that is not really true as well. The EPA rated 26 mpg rating for combined city and highway driving is only on par with the competition while the powerful V6 is rated for 19/28/23 mpg in city/highway/combined conditions. The large 18.5-gallon fuel tank does make a difference as it aids the car to provide about 450 miles of range on a single tank of gas.

The BMW 320i is the most efficient of the lot but makes do with a smaller gas tank that adversely affects the driving range of the car. The Acura and the A4 both have similar fuel economy figures while the Mercedes C 250 has the highest fuel consumption. All three German cars have similar driving ranges while the Acura offers a longer one.
Considering the TSX is the entry point to the luxury sedan segment, it offers a pleasing experience with plenty of soft-touch materials and cushioning, and although there are just too many buttons on the dashboard to control everything, the design still looks pretty nice for a car of its age. The rear seat isn’t the most spacious one in the segment, but there is ample space upfront.Â

The BMW 3-series has the most spacious cabin amongst the cars present here and also has a pretty large trunk to compliment that. Mercedes C-Class has the most cramped cabin and also has the lowest cargo capacity as well. The Audi A4 and the Acura TSX have a similarly sized cabin but the Acura has a larger trunk to offer.
The innumerable buttons on the dashboard although look too cluttered but it does make controlling it easier when on the move, but it does have a learning curve to it. The audio system is pretty good and is something that we would recommend and the navigation system is pretty easy and intuitive to use.Â
Despite its age, the TSX still holds its charm. The thick chrome bar on the front grille with sleek swept-back headlights looks cool even today while the smooth flowing straight body lines give the TSX a stylish appeal to the car. The chrome embellishment on the windows and the front grille look tasteful and premium as well.

The Mercedes C-Class is the most compact car in this comparison while the Acura is the longest, but yet the TSX has the shortest wheelbase. Both the A4 and the 3-series have the longest wheelbase to offer while the BMW is also the lightest here. There is not much difference in the ride height of the cars present here.
There is no doubt about the safety and reliability aspect of a Japanese car and the Acura stays true to this tradition. The NHTSA is yet to test the car but the IIHS has chosen it as the ‘Top Safety Pick’ for the 2013 model year. There aren’t many latest safety and driver assistance features available but there is a decent selection of them available as standard and some of them are listed below.
The 2013 Acura TSX may not be the quickest or the most premium luxury sedan in the segment, but it offers immense value as it undercuts all its competitors by a considerable margin. The TSX is due for an update soon, but it still is a pretty solid option to consider if looking for a car in the entry-level luxury sedan segment.
