Overall Rating
Since its launch a few years ago, the Audi A5 has been one of the most beautiful coupe cars that you can buy. It still remains the coupe with a lot of variety to choose from.
Since its launch a few years ago, the Audi A5 has been one of the most beautiful coupe cars that you can buy. The beauty of this car lies not only in its looks but also in the performance and the features. The car has not undergone any changes for the year 2013 but has actually come close to the design language that Audi has recently adopted. It still remains the coupe with a lot of variety to choose from.
We recommend the Audi A5 Premium Plus. It offers the standard Audi performance that is required and has a feature list that makes more sense. The available optional packages are great, and we surely recommend the MMI package. The sports package, however, is a personal choice.

We recommend the Audi A5 Premium Plus. It offers the standard Audi performance that is required and has a feature list that makes more sense. The available optional packages are great, and we surely recommend the MMI package. The sports package, however, is a personal choice.
The A5 comes with a single engine option, which is a 2.0L Inline-4 turbocharged which makes 211 hp @4300 rpm and 258 lb.-ft @1500 rpm. You get a choice between the 6-speed manual or the 8-speed automatic manual transmission mated to this engine. The Audi A5 comes with AWD as standard.
The coupe touches the 60 mph mark in 6.2 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 15.3 seconds.

The G37 is the quickest of the lot, with 60 mph coming under 6 seconds. The Audi comes second (6.2 seconds), and the BMW comes last (7.2 seconds). The same ranking goes for the quarter-mile as well, however, the difference between the Audi and BMW is that of 0.2 seconds. From here on, the Audi maxes out at 130 mph, whereas the BMW gains a little lead at 136 mph. The Infiniti again tops with a top speed of 168 mph. On the brighter side, the automatic transmission of the Audi is a boon and is extremely precise and smooth.
The A5 returns respectable numbers in the terms of fuel efficiency, for a car like the A5. The A5 managed to return 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. This is as good as some of the family cars in the market, and it does a lot better than its comparison. The A5 comes with a fuel tank capacity of 16.9 gallons, which results in a range of 338 miles in the city and 508 miles on the highway.

As you can see from the above table, the A5’s mileage figures are not supported by its nearly 17-gallon tank. We wish Audi would have incorporated that change. It’s not at all bad, but it would’ve helped the A5 be among the best. For now, because of the 20-gallon tank of the G37, it offers the highest range at 380 miles in the city and 540 miles on the highway. This comes even though its efficiency is not that great. The BMW has the worst economy and the smallest tank, and hence gives the least range you could think of.
The A5 interior maintains the standard Audi luxury everywhere and we are mighty pleased with that. Audi makes one of the most classy and premium interiors you can ever see. The materials used for the dash, the minimal soft plastic and the leather upholstery are a warm welcome. Fit and finish on the interior materials is excellent, and this just raises the standards of interior styling and richness. The dash is well laid out, and the only problem we had was with the MMI controller, which was cumbersome to use.

The seating in the A5 is excellent for the front seats, and they offer sufficient support as well. The main problem is with the rear seats as the legroom and headroom space is limited and better suited for short trips and short people. The G37 offers even less legroom in the rear, and is definitely not recommended for long drives. Actually, the rear space offered by all three is a compromise and not suited for tall people. The A5 offers adequate space for luggage at 12.4 cubic feet, but it is still tight. The G37’s 7.4 cubic feet cargo space is not very practical, and the BMW’s 11.1 cubic feet space can manage like the Audi. A few interior features of the Audi A5 are:
The infotainment system of the A5 is feature-packed, but the controller available is a little difficult to use. A CD player, dash-mounted MMI electronics interface controller, a trip computer, satellite radio, and a 10-speaker sound system are available as standard equipment on the A5. The premium plus trim gets the MMI navigation package that adds a navigation system, Bluetooth audio streaming, HD radio, and Audi Connect, which offers better internet connectivity. The top trim gets the premium Bang and Olufsen sounds system. Some standout infotainment features include:
The 2014 model has received no significant changes to the exterior, except the adoption of Audi’s design language, which is pretty evident with the new headlight and grille design. The A5 is one of the most beautiful coupes one can buy in the segment. The design is timeless and is worth the money right from the base variant to the top variant. The profile of the A5 is smooth and sharp at the same time.
The creases, the lines along the side, and the surface curves add a lot of elegance to this car. However, the grille looks massive and has become a signature statement on the Audi cars. The rear of the car is simple and has two taillights and 4 rings in the center. The dual exhaust look adds to the sporty nature of the car and is perfectly placed. Overall, the car has a sharp and striking pose and also has a low appearance to it.

The A5’s dimensions stand at 182 inches in length, 73 inches in width, and 54 inches in height. It has a wheelbase of 108.3 inches, which is the shortest in this comparison. Surprisingly the weight of the Audi and the BMW is the same at 3583 lbs. The low height helped the A5 maintain a low sporty look. The G37 is heavy and has the longest wheelbase, but is still a very quick car. It is also longer than the other two by a margin. Some of the exterior features of the A5 are:
Standard safety equipment for the A5 includes antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, front knee airbags, and traction control. Only the Prestige trim gets the blind spot monitor system. The car has not been tested by any safety agency due to the low sales and expensive pricing. But we do believe that the reputation of Audi’s safe, sturdy, and reliable cars has carried on this car as well. A few safety features are listed below:
The upgrades for this year to the Audi A5 have not messed around with the charm it has. In fact, the exterior changes have made it look even better than before, and the integration of Audi connect is a good addition. On the interior, the car is always welcoming, and the ride comfort you experience is excellent. It is a little on the expensive side at nearly $40,000, but this tag is balanced out by the combination the car puts down on the table. What can be expensive, however, is the high cost of ownership the car has. That is a point that you should think of. From our side, we do feel that the A5 is worthy of your attention.
