  • State of the art technology features
  • Upmarket and opulent interiors

Cons

Overview

The 2013 Audi S8 is the ultimate performance sedan from Audi and is based on the flagship luxury model, the Audi A8. The new-gen Audi S8 has pumped-up looks and additional horses. This car feels a bit more hyperactive, a bit more fidgety, and a bit more alive, and it should because its state of tune and setup is decidedly sportier. It is a luxury car with a racing soul.

Pricing and Features
9.0/10

It comes available in only one trim level with a base price of $110,000, which is quite expensive but never goes astray to deliver mind-blowing performance and luxury of supercar standards. This car is loaded with a wide array of features and technologies that seem like it has been derived directly from some science fiction film. As standard, some of the features include steering wheel memory, automatic temperature control, seat belt memory, and head restraints memory.

We Recommend

We recommend the only trim for its long list of advanced technologies and the V8 engine that puts out 520 pure German horsepower, which is supercar standards for a car of this size. Also, all this comes for a pretty fair price. This car is the perfect mix of both luxury and speed. Moreover, the interiors are spot on and futuristic, making it a perfect choice to go with.

Engine and Performance
9.2/10

Underneath all the opulence and flamboyance lies a monstrous V8 engine that cranks out 520 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque that is linked to a seamless 8-speed automatic transmission with an auto-manual. All this power is distributed via Audi’s renowned All-wheel-drive Quattro system, which glues the car to the ground and provides enough traction to tear the tarmac apart. The harder you drive it, the nicer it gets. The S8 is super communicative from behind the wheel due to its remarkable engine performance and suspension setup.

The Audi S8 is capable of face-melting acceleration, and it rips to 60 mph from standstill in just 3.9 seconds which is only two milliseconds slower than the Lamborghini Gallardo. It clocks a quarter-mile time of 11.9 seconds. It is a frolic car to drive, and despite its huge size, it can handle corners very well at sensational speeds.

The Jaguar XJL hits a quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds, which is 0.5 sec behind the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG’s 12.3 seconds quarter-mile time. In terms of performance, the Audi S8 beats the other two cars by a considerable margin. It also has the highest performance to price ratio.

Fuel Economy
6.6/10

The V8 twin-turbo engine of the S8 is quite thirsty and guzzles a considerable amount of fuel in the city and trumps its rivals on the highway in terms of fuel efficiency. It delivers a mileage of 15 mpg in the city, and surprisingly all three cars have the same mileage on paper, and it offers 26 mpg on the highway, which is the segment-leading mileage. It also has a fuel tank capacity of 23.8, which is the same as the S63 AMG’s fuel tank, which allows the car to traverse 357 miles in the city and 618.8 on the highway.

In comparison, both Jaguar XJL and Mercedes-Benz AMG S63 offer the least combined fuel economy of 18 mpg in the competition. Individually, they offer 15 and 23 mpg respectively in the city and on highways. Both Mercedes-Benz and Audi S8 have the biggest fuel tank of 23.8 gallons, followed by the Jaguar XJL with a 21.7-gallon tank. The Jaguar also delivers the least range of 325.5 and 499.1 in the city and on the highways, respectively.

Interior
8.6/10

The Audi S8 is expected to have an interior with the finest materials all over the cabin as it is based on the Audi A8. There’s a nice chunky steering wheel with the S8 logo at the bottom that gives you the feeling of being inside something rather special, and there are some brushed aluminum finished bits that are quite spectacular with a clock in the center console to exhibit a quaint look to its dashboard.

The Audi S8 has a seating capacity of 5 passengers. The front seats have deep inside bolstering and are comfortable and wide, while the rear seats offer sufficient room, but ideally for two. It has a front headroom space of 39.1 inches and legroom space of 41.4 inches. The cargo capacity on offer is the smallest in the segment, with a capacity of 13.2 cubic feet. However, the rear seat has plenty of headroom and legroom space on offer and is the place where you get to enjoy all the perks of owning a luxury sport sedan.

How intuitive is Audi S8’s infotainment system?

The Audi S8’s infotainment system is one of the most sophisticated in its class. It is equipped heavily with all the features you had dreamt of. As standard, it comes with Audi’s multimedia interface with a crystal clear LCD touch screen, 2nd row LCD monitor, wireless phone connectivity, 19 premium speakers, and a premium 630W amplifier. Some of the stand-alone entertainment features include-

  • Audi connect internet access
  • Steering wheel mounted audio controls
  • 19 Bang and Olufsen Speakers
  • Digital Signal Processor
  • Speed sensitive volume

Exterior
7.4/10

The designers from Audi never fail to think out of the box when it comes to design. Audi S8 is the most exquisite-looking car of the bunch. It comes with matrix LED headlamps, which look spot on and way ahead of their time. Audi has hit the spot with even the smallest attention to detail. An aggressive front grille with chrome finish looks blingy with wide intakes that definitely turn heads wherever you go.

The Audi S8 has a curb weight of 4,685 lbs which is quite heavy. It is the shortest car in the segment with a length of 202.2 inches and also the shortest wheelbase of 117.8 inches. Furthermore, it is 76.7 inches wide and 57.5 inches tall, making it the overall smallest car in its segment.

The Jaguar XJL is the longest and widest car as well. However, the difference in dimensions and overall proportions may seem microscopic. Some standout exterior features include-

  • Turn signal indicators
  • Metallic paint
  • Power door mirrors
  • Heated door mirrors
  • Chrome bodyside insert
  • Power open and close trunk

Safety
9.4/10

The Audi S8 hasn’t been crash-tested by the NHTSA AND IIHS, but Audi absolutely delivers exemplary safety features. It utilizes four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, which in turn offer an impeccable braking performance in the deceleration test. As standard, it comes geared up with some intelligent safety features like brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system, knee airbags, daytime running lights, and panic alarm. Some of the active and passive safety systems include-

  • Dual front impact airbags
  • Power front head restraints
  • Audi pre sense basic forward-collision warning
  • 2-way head restraints
  • Break-resistant glass
  • Remote keyless entry

Final Verdict

The 2013 Audi S8 is the go-to sledgehammer sedan when it comes to buying a high-performance sedan. This car has the right blend of utility and speed. The more you push the car to the limits, the more it behaves like a sports car. For all the extra weight, it doesn’t feel like it and is equipped with all the hi-tech features at the user’s disposal. The car encourages you to use more performance constantly. If you are looking for a supercar disguised as a 4-door sedan for a price you won’t regret, this is the one you should go for.
