2013 BMW M6 Review

The 2013 BMW M6 coupe is a car that distills everything BMW has learned over the years about performance. It is the high-performance flagship version of the M division cars.

The 2013 BMW M6 coupe is a car that distills everything BMW has learned over the years about performance. It is the high-performance flagship version of the M division cars. Ever Since BMW released its first BMW M6 in 1983, it is one of the most successful grand touring cars of all time, so there’s a lot for the latest model to live up to. This car is big but slender and simply beautiful. It is not as loud as you would expect from an M car, but it is mind-numbing fast.

Pricing and Features
7.0/10

The BMW M6 comes in only one trim with hi-tech features at your disposal. The engine on offer is an all-new forced-induction powerful engine. Priced at $108,350, it is one of the competitively priced cars in the segment. As standard, some of the standout features include Adaptive cruise control with steering wheel controls, illuminated entry, Valet function, Front dual-zone air conditioning, and head restraints memory.

We Recommend

We recommend buying the only trim for its wide array of features, the state-of-the-art technology used in the making, and the Flamboyant design that gives it a great road presence and all this comes at a fair deal. While its rivals would definitely cost you a fortune if you are planning to buy one. As standard, it delivers everything more than you would want in a car of this type.

Engine and Performance
9.2/10

The 2013 BMW M6 never fails to deliver tarmac meeting performance. The heart of this monster is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that pumps out 560 hp of power output and 500 lb-ft of torque and it is mated to a 7-speed Automatic transmission with paddle shifters that helps in seamless gearshifts and all powers the rear wheels which in turn makes it a raving lunatic.

This car has bowel churning acceleration and it is capable of propelling two tonnes of mass to three-digit speeds (0-60 mph) in just 4 seconds and it does a quarter-mile run in 12.1 seconds at 123.1 mph and it tops out at electronically limited 155 mph which is proper supercar territory. It is such a lively car to drive and the growl of the twin-turbo V8 adds to the experience of driving. Thanks to the men at Munich for delivering such a masterpiece.

In comparison, The Porsche 911 outrivals its contemporaries with its insane performance, despite being the least powerful car with 530 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, it manages to deliver the highest performance due to its high power to weight ratio. It skyrockets from stand-still to 60 mph in an astounding 2.9 seconds and clocks a quarter-mile time of a legit quick 11 seconds and goes all the way upto 198 mph. Porsche’s AWD is the next logical step for these bitter German rivals. While the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG delivers similar figures as BMW M6.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

BMW M6 is not built to deliver impeccable fuel economy but instead to deliver pure sports car performance from a grand tourer body style. This is where the mighty M6 loses to its rivals by a considerable margin. The BMW M6 offers a fuel economy of 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highways. With its highest voluminous fuel tank of 21.1 gallons, it somehow manages to keep up with its opponents in terms of Range. The M6 Coupe can traverse a distance of 295.4 in the city and 422 while cruising on the highway.

In comparison, the Porsche 911 Turbo S wins the fuel economy test with a mileage of 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway but loses when it comes to fuel tank capacity with the smallest fuel tank of just 17.7 gallons. However, the Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG covers a total distance of 316.8 miles in the city and 495 on the highway which is the class-leading range in its segment but the BMW M6 coupe never fails to do justice to its price being the cheapest car of the lot.

Interior
8.8/10

BMW, over the years, has finessed in making the mix of the opulent and sporty looking cabin. As soon as you get inside the BMW M6, it gives you the feeling of sitting inside a spaceship. With the use of high-end materials such as leather seats and carbon fiber panels all over the cabin. As a result, it adorns the styling of the cabin, and damn, it just looks Spectacular.

It incorporates a central 10.2-inch widescreen to enable access to the infotainment system and multimedia options through a brushed aluminum round knob in the center which is innovative. The M6 has a seating capacity of two passengers. There is ample headroom for front passengers but the rear headroom is a bit cramped and can fit only children. It has the highest front row space in the league. The cargo capacity figures of the BMW M6 are unknown.

On the other hand, the Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG has a seating capacity to accommodate 2 passengers only. The Porsche has the smallest front row space among the segment but it at least can accommodate 4 passengers and also it has the smallest cargo space of just 4.5 cubic capacity

How intuitive is the 2013 BMW M6’s infotainment system?

The infotainment system on the BMW M6 is the most advanced in the pack. It is equipped hefty with an extensive list of modern features. As standard it comes with a 10.2-inch-wide crispy screen, wireless phone connectivity, internet access, MP3 decoder, Speed sensitive volume, and 600 W amplifier. Some of the distinctive features include

  • 16 Bang and Olufsen speakers
  • Voice-activated radio
  • 10.2-inch LCD display
  • My Info internet access
  • Audio theft deterrent
  • Steering wheel mounted audio controls

Exterior
9.0/10

BMW’s designing department has nailed it with the M6. The front headlamps look sinister with the dual-LED daytime running lights and the conventional kidney grille is redesigned to make it look much better than its previous generation. The clean lines and the streamlined body looks phenomenal. The hunkered-down stance and the quad tail exhaust pipes absolutely look like it has been derived from the hard-core racing car.

The BMW M6 coupe is the longest car in the segment with a length of 192.8 inches and it is also the heaviest with a curb weight of 4255 lbs and it also maintains its winning streak with a width of 82.9, a height of 54.1, and the longest wheelbase of 112.2. As a result, the M6 is the biggest car in its class by a substantial margin.

The Porsche 911 also has the shortest wheelbase of 92.5 inches only. The Mercedes Benz SL 63 AMG wins the ground clearance test with a clearance of 4.4 inches.

Safety
9.5/10

The new BMW M6 comes with tons of sophisticated active and passive safety systems. No crash tests have been performed on the M6 but BMW has a very good reputation when it comes to building cars with advanced safety systems. It is equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS which delivers an astonishing braking performance. As standard, it comes equipped with features like brake assistance, knee airbag, Dual front impact airbags, remote keyless entry, and occupant sensing airbags. Some of the stand-alone safety features include

  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Tracker system
  • Front seatbelt pre-tensioners
  • Daytime running lights
  • Electronic stability control
  • Side impact bars

Final Verdict

The BMW M6 is an absolute monster of a machine. This car definitely gets under your skin once you get used to driving it. The M6 indeed is a perfect grand touring car to cross continents with ease. Furthermore, the all-new BMW M6 is serene, comfortable, beautifully appointed, and such a stunner to behold and you have the recipe for utter and sheer lunacy and unbridled joy. Cars like these are simply magical. If you are looking for a car with a rawness of power and character, be in no doubt, The BMW M6 is the perfect pick for you.
