Overall Rating
The XTS is a brand new product from the Cadillac brand which replaces two cars together, which are the DTS and STS luxury sedans.
The XTS is a brand new product from the Cadillac brand which replaces two cars together, which are the DTS and STS luxury sedans. It offers high performance, great handling, spacious and high-tech cabin which is set to help it shed the brand’s reputation of building large and bulky land yachts. Add to that the youthful styling and we are pretty confident that Cadillac has a winner in their hands in the name of XTS.
The Luxury trim is the one to opt for as it adds a whole lot of features and creature comforts to the already loaded base trim while also keeping the prices in check. Opting for the AWD drivetrain would add practicality to the car in adverse weather conditions.

The all-new Cadillac XTS is offered in four different trims with either a front-wheel or an all-wheel-drive drivetrain. The XTS is offered with a feature-loaded cabin right from the base trim while the higher trims add more technology and luxury features to bring it on par with the more expensive mainstream German counterparts.

The Luxury trim is the one to opt for as it adds a whole lot of features and creature comforts to the already loaded base trim while also keeping the prices in check. Opting for the AWD drivetrain would add practicality to the car in adverse weather conditions.
The Cadillac XTS gets only a single engine option which includes a 3.6-liter V6 engine that is rated for 304 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox only and the power is sent either to the front wheels or to all wheels depending on the choice of drivetrain.
The performance although not the best is pretty brisk for a car its size as it can speed to 60 mph from standstill in under 7 seconds.

The Lincoln MKS is even more affordable than the Cadillac XTS and although it has a marginally higher torque output, it is the quickest of the lot. The Audi A6 is next in line behind the Lincoln which has the highest engine output in this comparison. The Mercedes on the other hand is the most expensive car here and yet is only about half a second quicker than the XTS.
The Cadillac XTS does decently in this regard on its own but when compared to its rivals the XTS lacks behind. The EPA rates the 2013 XTS for 17 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highways while the combined fuel economy is rated for 21 mpg. The 19-gallon fuel tank is pretty decent for the car of this segment and offers 350 miles of combined city and highway driving range on a single tank of gas.

Both American cars have similar fuel efficiency figures and also employ an identical fuel tank capacity. The Audi A6 is marginally more efficient than the American cars while the Mercedes E 350 has the lowest fuel consumption and the largest gas tank amongst the cars present here, which translates to one of the best driving ranges in the segment.
Being the flagship model from the brand, the Cadillac XTS offers a pretty high-quality cabin with lots of premium materials in use. There are loads of space for all the passengers inside the cabin and even the trunk has enough room to accommodate luggage for five adults for a weekend getaway.
Although the narrow trunk means that fitting in the golf clubs requires some planning and creativity.Â

There is competition for space on offer inside the cabin of the XTS which includes both the passenger space and luggage compartment. The MKS although has a large boot, but can’t match up to space on offer in the XTS. The Mercedes has the most compact cabin while the Audi A6 has the tightest trunk volume in this comparison.
The CUE or the Cadillac User Experience has a smartphone or tablet-like experience with similar touching, swiping, and pinching commands on its 8-inch display. The haptic feedback for the touchscreen provides reassuring feedback when using the system on the move and the inclusion of a head-up display is a good add-on.Â
Styling has never been a concern for the Cadillac designers and the XTS to makes a youthful statement in the full-size luxury sedan segment.
The upright headlights with a large silver mesh front grille make up the aggressive front fascia of the car, while the sharp creases and lines on the body chrome window trims and door inserts complement the polished aluminum wheels of the XTS.

The Lincoln MKS is the largest sedan in this comparison and is marginally larger than the XTS sedan. The Mercedes E 350 is the most compact one here but it has the highest ground clearance to offer. The Audi A6 although is only marginally larger than the Mercedes, has the longest wheelbase and also rides closest to the ground.
The premium high-value nature of the car means many of the important people are set to make use of this car which makes the safety aspect paramount in a car like the new Cadillac XTS. Therefore, Cadillac has made no exception here and loaded it with tons of safety and driver assistance features which help it score a perfect 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA and also achieve the ‘Top Safety Pick’ status from the IIHS.
The Cadillac XTS is all set to change the perception and thereby the fortunes of the Cadillac brand by offering a premium luxury sedan that is no slouch when it comes to performance and handling. The extensive list of safety and technological features adds to the appeal of the car, and so does the striking styling of the XTS.
