Overview

The 2013 Chrysler 200 is a luxury sedan in its type and execution. It builds on the foundation to be a family hauler and is chock-full with luxury and hi-tech features that put it at a level with other mainstream and leading cars in the segment. With the latest iteration,Chrysler has added two new trims, i.e., Touring and Limited, to the sedan’s lineup.

Pricing and Features
9.0/10

The Chrysler 200 is available as a three-trim offering with a single drivetrain option. It features two engine options and two transmission setups. It falls in a price range that extends from $19,695 for its base variant and goes up to $25,255 for its top-rack variant. Basic features that the Chrysler 200 comes equipped with include cruise control, heated mirrors, and alarm.

We recommend buying the Limited variant of the Chrysler 200. While it features a more powerful and well-to-do engine, it is also the most heavily packed option in the lineup with features like a remote engine start, fog lamps, and an electrochromic rearview mirror. All in all, the Limited variant brings the best value for money in the lineup.

Engine and Performance
7.6/10

The Chrysler 200 is available with two distinct engine options, both of which deliver class-competing performance and score highly on reliability as well. The base engine, available with entry- and mid-level trim only, is a 2.4L I-4 engine that is good for 173 hp and 166 lb.-ft of torque. It comes mated to a 4-speed and 6-speed automatic transmission for the LX and Touring variant, respectively, and is channeled as a front-wheel-drive variant only.

The more powerful engine option is a 3.6L V6 engine that is capable of churning out 283 hp of power and 260 lb.-ft of torque. The engine comes standard with top-end Limited trim. While the drivetrain is standard on all trims, the Limited variant is married to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The acceleration figures for the sedan are not available for comparison.

In comparison, all three cars make use of an inline-4 engine and are channeled as front-wheel-drive variants only. Both contemporary cars make use of 6-speed automatic transmission setups. While the Hyundai Sonata’s engine can produce 198 hp and 184 lb.-ft of torque, the Toyota Camry is rated at 178 hp of engine power and 170 lb.-ft of torque.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10

The 2013 Chrysler 200 may not be the most efficient car on the block, but it performs decently, averaging a combined efficiency of 24 MPG. When cruising in the city, the Chrysler 200 records 21 MPG that increases to 29 MPG on the highway. Its fuel tank has a total capacity of 16.9 gallons, which when coupled with its efficiency, allows the sedan to average 354.9 and 490.1 miles in the city and on the highway, respectively.

In comparison, the Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry are highly efficient and average 28 miles per gallon of fuel. Their capacities of 18.5 and 17-gallons respectively are larger than the one that the Chrysler sports, and as a result, they cover a higher range both in the city and on the highway in a single fuel stop.

Interior
6.8/10

The cabin of the Chrysler 200 is sought-after and coveted, reeking of a practical and pragmatic build. While the centrally placed infotainment system does feel like the center of attraction, a large number of features that the cabin sports make it likable. Like every other car in the segment, the Chrysler 200 can seat five passengers. Both the front and rear seat occupants have a proportionate amount of space at their disposal.

The seats are highly comfortable with appropriate bolstering and cushioning, and consequently, allow for a superior experience. What adds to the feel is the nimble and agile ride quality that is unparalleled and praiseworthy. However, the Chrysler 200 does falter by virtue of its small trunk that has a total capacity of 13.6 cubic feet, which can be increased by folding down the rear seat.

Final Verdict

The Chrysler 200 still is not an all-around offering yet but is a competitive sedan in the segment. While its engine options are built for both daily drives and highway sprints, its lower efficiency feels like a letdown. Its unparalleled ride quality, cabin build, and hi-tech features make the Chrysler an alluring option. However, its cramped cargo capacity puts it at a disadvantage. The Chrysler 200 does feel adequate in its segment, but we recommend looking elsewhere before finalizing your decision.
