About 2013 Ford Expedition

3.5

Overall Rating

The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV from the Blue Oval and comes with no major changes for the 2013 model year. The SUV loses the previous model year's XL trim and gets some minor mechanical upgrades such as an integrated brake controller for better towing

There are no major changes in the 2013 Ford Expedition and it still gets the powerful 5.4-liter V8 engine that drives great overall performance. The Expedition is equipped with great features right from the base trim and there are a few of them like the heated steering wheel, automatic headlights, and parking sensors which are standard.

The interior is roomy and provides considerable spacing for all the passengers. Starting at a base price of $43,000 the new Ford Expedition is on the expensive side, and thus competes with equally capable SUVs like the Chevrolet Suburban and the Toyota Sequoia.

We would recommend opting for the base XLT variant which in itself has most of the features included with it. The automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, power front seats, and Ford's voice-operated Sync system are a few of the many features that we get in the base trim itself. Thus available at a price of $43,000 it provides the best value for the money spent.

2013 Ford Expedition Review

Pros

  • Comfortable ride quality
  • Easy maneuverability for its size
  • Roomy interiors

Cons

  • Dated exterior design
  • Lack of infotainment system features
  • Low fuel economy

The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV from the Blue Oval and comes with no major changes for the 2013 model year. The SUV loses the previous model year's XL trim and gets some minor mechanical upgrades such as an integrated brake controller for better towing

Overview

There are no major changes in the 2013 Ford Expedition and it still gets the powerful 5.4-liter V8 engine that drives great overall performance. Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The 2013 Ford Expedition is available in three trims, namely the XLT, Limited, and the King Ranch. The XLT in itself begins at a price of $43,000 and gets fairly considerable features that justify the high cost. The next one is the Limited trim which adds more than $4,000 along with more features like parking sensors, power-folding mirrors, heated second-row seats, and few others.

The top of the line King ranch variant is available at a price of around $48,500 and is the most luxurious of them. It adds over the list of features available in the limited trim and provides enhanced interiors.

Engine and Performance
7.7/10

The 2013 Ford Expedition is available in a single-engine option of 5.4-liter V8. This massive engine generates around 310 hp along with 365 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers the power to the rear wheels as standard.

This Setup helps accelerate the SUV from 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds. This is the slowest among the competitors and a similar performance is seen in quarter-mile acceleration where the Expedition takes 16.3 seconds to cover the distance.

Interior
7.7/10

The 2013 Ford Expedition gets a decent interior where the controls are ergonomic and makes your life easy. The interior design is not fancy and gets an old flat dashboard in the front. But the interior provides you with all the space required and makes it comfortable for all the occupants.

The front gets the captain’s chairs which are raised higher for a clear outside view. The third-row seats are power folded which does make life easy. The Expedition can carry up to 8 passengers and provides considerable spacing for all of the occupants.

Exterior
6.0/10

The exterior design of the new Ford Expedition is not the most modern that we currently see, but the Expedition manages to get all the proportions correct.

The boxy design is also not the most aerodynamic and adds to the lower fuel efficiency. The Expedition weighs around 5,549 pounds which is comparatively lighter than its competitors.

7.9/10

The NHTSA has given the 2013 Ford Expedition a 4-star safety rating out of 5. The IIHS has given a ‘Good’ rating for a few of the segments, while the front sections get a ‘Medium’ and ‘Poor’ rating. Even after that, the IIHS has given the Ford Expedition a Top Safety Pick award for the year 2013. Along with that, the Expedition carries few safety features which help improve the safety factor of the vehicle. Here is a list of those safety features:

  • Antilock disc brakes
  • Stability control
  • Traction control
  • Trailer sway control
  • Airbags.
  • Ford's programmable MyKey system
  • Rearview camera
  • Parking sensors

Final Verdict

The 2013 Ford Expedition is one of the most capable full-size SUVs out there. The powerful 5.4-liter V8 engine provides great power all performance, while the interior is roomy and can accommodate upto 8 people inside the cabin. The Expedition may not be the quickest or the most fuel-efficient, but it does deliver a great overall experience. So if you are looking for a powerful truck that would provide great interior spacing, the Ford Expedition is one of the SUVs to look out for.
