We would suggest you the SE trim with the Technology package for a pleasing overall experience with the sedan.
The Ford Fusion houses a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter four-pot motor under its hood. It is tuned to generate a maximum of 175 horsepower and 175lb-ft of torque. The power figures are adequate for the segment although you can get the turbocharged 2.0liter motor for a substantial gain in performance and power figures.
The base engine is just adequate for urban rides and relaxed highway rides along with responsive nature. The motor is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that is quick and smooth as well. The ride quality is compliant and the well-balanced electric power steering makes driving a delight with its precision.

The Nissan Altima has much better power and torque figures than the Fusion sedan but its CVT transmission is not as friendly or smooth as the 6-speed automatic on the Fusion. The Subaru Legacy has a decent package with a standard AWD layout along with a standard 6-speed manual transmission on offer.
The Ford Fusion sedan might not impress with its overall fuel efficiency but its commendable highway mileage makes it a friendly car. The city mileage of the sedan is rated at 22mpg and the highway mileage is rated at 34mpg. The combined mileage stands at 26mpg.

The Nissan Altima is the real stunner here with the maximum fuel efficiency along with impressive power figures as well. The Subaru Legacy is the least efficient one here owing to its engine configuration and a dated 6-speed manual transmission unit.
The cabin of the Ford Fusion sedan is quite appealing and functional as well. The highly stylish design language combined with an improved functionality given the cabin of the Fusion a distinctive appeal.
The power-adjustable driver’s seat allows you to find the perfect driving position in no time and is quite comfortable along with the front passenger seat. The rear seats are quite comfortable too with adequate headroom and legroom on offer. The premium quality materials of the Fusion’s cabin make it feel pricier than it actually is.

The Nissan Altima has the best headroom for the front passengers among the three on the list, having an appealing interior too. The Subaru Legacy is also as spacious as the Altima and offers a better cabin space than the Ford Fusion.
The infotainment system of the Ford Fusion is almost basic at first without the Technology Package. The standard infotainment system features include voice-activated Sync audio along with a cell phone interface, a four-speaker sound system with a CD player, auxiliary audio jack, and iPod integration. The SE trim gets an enhanced infotainment interface along with satellite radio. The Technology Package adds an 8-inch touchscreen display with MyFord Touch electronics interface, an upgraded version of Sync, two USB ports, an SD card reader, and RCA video input jacks.
Infotainment system features:
The Ford Fusion is one of the best looking family sedans out there on the market. The trapezoidal front grille design along with some sculpted lines on the hood gives the front end an aggressive appeal while the side profile features some aerodynamically-efficient lines running across the car.
The roofline of the sedan resembles the Audi A7’s roof to some extent and the LED tail light units give the rear end a fascinating look as well.

The Nissan Altima also looks quite handsome with mildly aggressive front fascia and a flowing overall design. The Subaru Legacy looks sporty with its rectangular grille and a three-part front bumper with a set of attractive headlamp units.
Apart from the excellent exterior appeal, the safety stats of the Ford Fusion sedan is equally impressive too. The sedan secured a top 5-star rating from the NHTSA while the IIHS gave it their best possible “Good” rating. The standard safety features of the sedan include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side airbags, front knee airbags and, side curtain airbags. Ford’s Sync system includes a telematics feature that automatically dials 911 when paired with a compatible cell phone. Ford's MyKey is also standard that can be used to set some parameters for teen drivers. The optional safety aids include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, driver drowsiness detection and lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and collision warning with brake intervention.
Safety features:
The Ford Fusion has become more attractive than ever with its new design update and stands as an attractive offering in the segment. The sedan offers a generous list of interior as well as exterior features at a competitive price point. Performance might not be as expected from the base motor but the optional turbocharged motor takes care of it easily. The sedan also has some commendable driving dynamics and cabin comfort, making it a worthy alternative to most of its rivals.
