We Recommend
We would recommend you to pick up the SUV with its 4x4 layout along with the Theatre and Technology Package for the best overall experience.
The Infiniti QX56 is powered by a single powertrain option. The motor in question is a naturally aspirated 5.6liter VK56DE V8 unit that is tuned to generate a maximum of 400 horsepower and 413lb-ft of torque. The performance is quite lively considering the sheer size and heft of the vehicle and the motor is capable enough to propel this mammoth to 60mph from a standstill within 6.8 seconds, a commendable time for the segment.
The refinement levels of the motor are excellent and the power delivery is linear, making it fun to drive on the highways. Even under a full load, the motor shows no signs of slowing down and keeps on pulling all the way to its top speed. The motor is mated to an excellent 7-speed automatic transmission that also aids in towing a maximum of 8,500lbs, a respectable number for a luxury SUV.

The Cadillac Escalade gets a massive 6.2liter V8 motor but generates slightly more power and torque than the QX56. The Mercedes-Benz GL 450 has the smallest motor but gets turbocharging, enhancing its efficiency.
Big and hefty luxury SUVs were always gas-hungry and so is the case with the Infiniti QX56. The city mileage of the SUV is rated at a mere 14mpg while the highway mileage is rated at 20mpg. The combined mileage is rated at 17mpg.

The Cadillac Escalade has slightly lower highway and combined mileage than the Infiniti QX56 owing to the sheer size of its powertrain. The Mercedes GL 450 also fails to match the highway and combined mileage ratings of the QX56, making the latter the most fuel-efficient on paper.
Step inside the Infiniti QX56 and you’ll be bewildered with the plushness and the comfort levels present, matching any other full-size luxury sedan. Almost all the surfaces are covered either in leather or premium soft-touch panels.
The cabin is extremely spacious too with an array of standard features but all of them are surprisingly easy to use. The 360-degree parking camera comes in extremely handy in tight parking spaces. The front seats offer superb comfort levels with power adjustments as well. The second-row seats are more comfortable with a reclining function and excellent cushioning while the third-row seats are practically usable too.

The Cadillac Escalade offers excellent headroom for the front passengers while its 2nd-row and 3rd-row seats are very much useful too with adequate comfort levels. The Mercedes-Benz GL 450 has a superior cabin with excellent fit and finish levels along with superior comfort levels as well.
The QX56’s infotainment system is quite feature loaded given its luxury status. The system includes several features such as Bluetooth phone connectivity with audio streaming, a voice-activated navigation system with real-time traffic, a 13-speaker Bose sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack, and a USB/iPod interface.
Infotainment system features:
The exterior styling of the QX56 might not appeal to you the most owing to its polarizing design and styling cues. The front end looks the weirdest with a high-mounted hood and a narrow set of projector headlamp setup.
From the side, the SUV resembles the Nissan Patrol to some extent with its chunky and boxy dimensions while the rear end looks neat with an uncluttered design.

The Cadillac Escalade has its traditional American appeal to it with a solid dose of chrome details on the exterior styling. The Mercedes-Benz GL 450 has the traditional appeal of a Merc with a wide front grille bearing the tristar logo and curvy side profiles, giving it a proper big SUV appeal.
Since the QX56 is a full-size luxury SUV, it has not been crash tested by any organizations but the vehicle is loaded with all the basic safety features. The standard safety aids include stability and traction control, anti lock brakes, front-seat side-impact airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and front active head restraints. The Technology Package further adds a lane-departure warning and prevention system, collision alert, brake assist, and a blind-spot warning system.
Safety features:
With a plush cabin and superior comfort levels, the infiniti QX56 is almost a land-yacht from the inside. There is more than adequate performance on tap from the standard V8 motor and the vehicle has an excellent towing capacity too, a rarity among full-fledged luxury SUVs. Overall, the QX56 is a great alternative to some mainstream American and German luxury SUVs on the market.
