2013 Lamborghini Gallardo Review

Pros

  • Masterpiece V10 engine
  • All-wheel drive handling is unbelievable
  • Drool-worthy styling

Cons

  • Not enough headroom for tall passengers
  • Poor visibility for tall passengers
  • It will cost you a fortune

Lamborghini has always been the dream car to everyone, and its wall-posters invariably adorn the room of every kid crazy about this legendary car.

Overview

Lamborghini has always been the dream car to everyone, and its wall-posters invariably adorn the room of every kid crazy about this legendary car. It is one of the top Italian marquees in the automotive market, and it holds great value and heritage for its awe-inspiring legacy in the automotive industry and motorsports, and hence it needs no introduction. For starters, the Lamborghini Gallardo is the entry-level mid-engine supercar to have rolled out of Lamborghini’s lineup.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The Lamborghini Gallardo comes in three different levels. All the trims feature a monstrous V10 naturally aspirated engine and distinguish them from each other by the power output and drivetrain it offers. The Gallardo is priced at $181,900 for its base trim and goes all the way to a whopping $241,200 for the top of the line variant. As standard, basic features include remote keyless entry, telescopic steering wheel, front automatic dual-zone A/C, and automatic temperature control. You can also opt for a navigation system as an option.

We Recommend:

We recommend the mid-range LP560-4 for its tweak in the power output when compared to the base trim, and also it gets the all-wheel-drive system as standard. But if you are someone who is looking for a driver’s car with RWD and a manual gearbox, the base trim LP550-2 is the perfect pure driver’s car. While the LP570-4 Edizonetechnica is the ultimate, stripped-out hardcore version of the Gallardo.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10

The Lamborghini is built to serve one purpose, to bring smiles to your faces every time you redline the engine. The core of this car is a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that punches out 562 horsepower and 398 lb-ft. of torque, and it is linked to an improved 6-speed E-gear transmission with paddle shifters that create brutal shifts every time you shift the gear. All the power is channeled via both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive depending on the trim.

In a performance test, Lamborghini claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and clocks a quarter-mile run at 11.4 seconds and tops out at a stupefyingly fast 202 mph. The pace of this car is just manic. The Edizonetechnica version produces even more power and torque, but it kind of lacks practicality and everyday usability which we see in the base and midrange trim of the car.

In Comparison, the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Audi R8 share the same engine platform of 5.2 liters V10 engine. As Lamborghini is owned by Audi, most of the parts are from Ingolstadt. In terms of performance, the Ferrari 458 Italia outperforms its competitors with a bit more power of 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough to push the car at sensational speeds. The Audi R8 is the slowest in the segment with a top speed of 198 mph, but it definitely gives a good run for its money.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Supercars are built for performance over fuel economy, and hence the supercars with massive naturally aspirated engines are thirsty monsters. It just consumes a whole lot of gasoline, but the Gallardo plays a fair game when compared to its opponents. It averages a mileage of 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg while cruising on the highway. When combined, it averages a mileage of 16.5 miles to the gallon. However, its huge fuel tank capacity of 23.8 gallons allows the baby bull to traverse a range of 309.4 miles in the city and 476 miles on the highways, which is a segment-leading fuel range.

In comparison, all three cars offer similar fuel economy. However, the Lambo offers the highest fuel economy, followed by Audi R8 which belongs to the same family as Lamborghini, and it averages a mileage of 12 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highways. The Ferrari loses to its rivals with the least fuel economy of 15 mpg combined, and it also covers the least distance of 295.1 miles and 385.9 miles in the city and on the highway, respectively.

Interior
9.0/10

The interior of the Lamborghini Gallardo is inspired by the cockpit of a fighter jet. The array of buttons on the center console is evidence of it. The use of top-notch materials like leather, carbon fiber, and Alcantara just enhances the way the interior looks and feels. The thick flat-bottom steering wheel with some carbon fiber bits on it keeps reminding you that you are inside something beyond 4 wheels. The centrally placed touchscreen adorns the modern look of the interior.

The Lamborghini Gallardo has a seating capacity for 2 passengers. You sink right down into the seats but lateral support surprisingly is pretty good. The front row headroom is 36 inches, and it is the lowest in the segment because the car is very low to the ground when compared to its rivals. However, the legroom is 45 inches, which is the best in class. It also has the smallest cargo capacity of just 3.9 cubic feet.

  • Sport Steering wheel
  • Carbon fibre door panel insert
  • Carbon fibre console insert
  • Full Alcantara simulated suede headliner
  • Air conditioning

How intuitive is Lamborghini Gallardo’s infotainment system?

The infotainment system on the Lamborghini Gallardo features an LCD screen with an infotainment system and navigation, wireless phone connectivity, a window grid antenna, and a radio data system. As standard, it comes equipped with advanced features like Bluetooth connectivity, a premium amplifier, and 4 premium speakers. Some other infotainment features include-

  • 4-speaker premium sound system
  • Speed sensitive volume
  • CD-MP3 Decoder
  • AM/FM Radio
  • Primary LCD monitor touchscreen
  • Radio data system

Exterior
8.0/10

For 2013, the Lamborghini Gallardo gets a revamped front and rear bumpers that add up to the design of the car and it looks even more raging now. There’s no wonder why it is called the Raging Bull. The front headlights with DRLs look sensational and rear tail lamps with the striking LED lights look like it is directly inspired from bat-mobile. The design of the car and the streamlined body shape are designed to tear up the wind. The shape of the car is designed in such a way that it produces less drag coefficient and more aero efficiency.

The Gallardo is wild and dramatic to behold. The Lamborghini Gallardo comes with wide 19-inch alloy wheels on either side with a lower stance that makes it look like an angry bull ready to fight. It is the lightest car in the segment with a curb weight of 2,954 lbs. Furthermore, it has a length of 172.7 inches, a width of 74.8 inches, and a height of 45.9 inches, which in turn makes it a pocket-sized rocket.

Safety
8.0/10

Lamborghini is known for its hi-tech safety features, and it comes with loads of safety and driver-assist features. It is very safe and comfortable and is backed by a long list of safety features. No safety recalls have been made from NHTSA yet. It makes use of 4-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS. As standard, it incorporates features like dual front impact airbags, side-impact bars, traction control, brake assist, and key immobilizer. Some of the standout features include-

  • Brembo four-wheel disc brakes
  • Electronic stability control
  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Daytime running lights
  • Adjustable front head restraints
  • Knee airbags
  • Front seat belt pre-tensioners

Final Verdict

Lamborghini Gallardo is an engineering marvel in every aspect. From its state-of-the-art V10 engine to the astonishing design of the car, everything is bespoke. It’s beautiful, it’s pure passion, and it is more than just four wheels. The violent shifts of the transmission will keep you lively, and it is a frolic car to drive. It is one of the sensational vehicles money can buy at the moment, and the soundtrack of the exhaust is something to die for. Even though some supercars are faster and modern in many aspects, no supercar can give you the theatre and drama of driving a Lamborghini.
