Overall Rating
With the 2013 iteration of the Tiguan, Volkswagen has managed to standardize necessary features and the most important update is the exclusion of the LE trim from the crossover lineup.
Volkswagen Tiguan is a classic that has now been on the market for seven years. In its limited time, the Tiguan has reached the pinnacle of success, advocating its dominance over other crossovers with its reputable cabin design and quality, athletic performance, and nimble ride.
With the 2013 iteration of the Tiguan, Volkswagen has managed to standardize necessary features and the most important update is the exclusion of the LE trim from the crossover lineup. It feels hands-on and practical and has been curated to meet the needs of every buyer. While the Tiguan has the potential to be a great daily driver, it does feel a bit constrained on space with little cargo capacity. But like most Volkswagen offerings, the Tiguan does have an air grace to it.
All trims of the Tiguan are abundantly luxurious, and any trim you plan on buying will provide you with the dazzle you look for in a car. We recommend buying the base variant with the sunroof package to get the necessary performance and luxury in your car. Since the powertrain remains the same in all the trims, base trim is the option to go with.

The engine on duty on the Volkswagen Tiguan is a 2.0L I-4 engine that is capable of producing 200hp of power and 207lb.-ft of torque, making it the most powerful engine in comparison. The Tiguan’s engine is robust, and when coupled with the 6-speed-automatic transmission that shifts effortlessly through gears, grants the ride with dynamism.
Though a manual transmission is on offer, it feels rather unresponsive, and it is better to opt for the automatic counterpart. The Tiguan directs its power either to the front wheels or all wheels of the car. The variant with the all-wheel-drivetrain and an automatic transmission boosts from a still to the 60 MPH mark in 8.4 seconds and to the quarter-mile mark in 16 seconds. The top speed for the Tiguan is yet not known.

The Tiguan is not the fastest and quickest car in the segment, and Volkswagen never wanted it to be. It’s a family car with a dash of sportiness. In the acceleration test, it is the 176hp Toyota RAV4 that emerges victorious clocking 8.2 seconds, followed by the Tiguan. The Equinox and CR-V settle third and fourth on the table with a time of 9.4 and 9.9 seconds, respectively. The 60MPH leading RAV4 falls to third place in the quarter-mile run with the Equinox moving to first place with a total time of 15.4 seconds. The CR-V continues to lurk at the bottom of the table, making it the slowest car in the segment.
Given that the Volkswagen Tiguan is a family car that is suited for daily drives, the crossover does not compromise on fuel efficiency. The Volkswagen Tiguan manages an average mileage of 20 MPG in the city and that of 26 MPG on the highway. Combined, the Tiguan can manage 23 MPG, which may not be the highest in the segment but is economical. Featured on the 2013 Tiguan is a 16.8-gallon fuel tank. It can cover a total distance of 336 and 436.8 miles in city and highway drive, respectively.

The cabin of the Tiguan looks virtuous, and it is the sheer subtleness that attracts the buyer. Step inside the Tiguan, and you are sure to be impressed. Volkswagen has created the cabin setup keeping practicality as a key ingredient. The infotainment sits centrally and feels driver-focused. There is ample storage space on offer, and the central armrest that sits between the driver and passenger seats feels pragmatic. An optional panoramic sunroof makes the Tiguan feel airier and spacious.
The seats feel comfortable, and the three upholstery options on offer add to the plushness. Even on long rides, the Tiguan is an absolute delight. The ride quality is aplomb and the Tiguan feels well-planted and sturdy even on corners. The total cargo capacity on offer is the lowest in the segment at 23.8 cubic feet with all seats in an upright position and 56.1 cubic feet with the rear seat folded.

The 2013 Tiguan is a viable buying option. Its engine grants the crossover with decent acceleration capabilities without compromising on fuel efficiency. The cabin feels commodious, and its upmarket build adds to the enlightening experience. The ride quality remains graceful even in corners and on rough patches. However, the Volkswagen Tiguan does falter with its limited cargo space, something we do not expect in a crossover. But given its extensive list of features and authentic driving experience, the Tiguan does feel like a jack-of-all-trades.
