Overall Rating
Volvo cars started operating with the sole motto of making safe cars and they have been quite successful at it with a couple of safety features.
Volvo cars started operating with the sole motto of making safe cars and they have been quite successful at it with a couple of safety features innovated by the brand itself such as Whiplash Protection System and Side Impact Protection System.
We would suggest you the T5 trim with the Premier package for a fuller experience with the sedan. You can opt for the T6 trim if you wish to have more performance on tap at all times.

The Volvo S60 sedan is offered in three trim levels: T5, T6, and T6 R-Design. The trim levels are further divided into packages that are marketed by the brand as “trim levels”. The base T5 trim comes well equipped with a handsome list of features that include automatic headlights, headlight washers, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat with memory functions, adjustable lumbar, power-folding rear headrests, a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, T-Tec cloth upholstery, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, an eight-speaker sound system, a CD player, HD radio, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod/USB audio interface. The T6 trim gets a more powerful turbocharged I-6 motor and adds some features such as an all-wheel drive, 18-inch wheels, bigger brakes, sport-tuned suspension, and steering. The T6 R-Design quite performance-centric and gets a power boost in the already powerful I-6 motor along with special styling, unique 18-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, a rear spoiler, special interior trim, a sport steering wheel, and sport seats.

The Volvo S60 is powered by a turbocharged 2.5liter I-5 motor, an uncommon configuration in the segment. The motor is tuned to generate a maximum of 250 horsepower and 266lb-ft of torque. The motor is smooth and the refinement levels are praiseworthy.
Turbo lag is almost non-existent and the motor provides a punchy performance all the way. With this powertrain, the sedan can accelerate to 60mph within 6.4 seconds, a quick time for the segment. The motor is mated to a quick 6-speed automatic transmission that is standard across the trim levels.

The Acura TL is powered by a much bigger 3.5liter V6 motor and generates more horsepower but falls short in terms of the torque figure. The Lexus ES is also powered by a 3.5liter V6 and generates more power than the S60 but has the least torque output among the three.
The S60 delivers a decent fuel economy for the segment considering its performance. The city mileage of the sedan is rated at 21mpg while the highway mileage is rated at 30mpg. The combined mileage stands at 24mpg.

The Acura TL has an impressive fuel economy considering its powertrain’s size and power output. The Lexus ES has almost identical fuel economy ratings to the S60 and has an even better highway and combined mileage ratings than the S60.
The interior of the Volvo S60 sedan is nothing fancy and plush but is quite comparable with similarly priced luxury sedans. The textured dashboard might not appeal to everyone but all the materials, upholstery, and leather used are of premium quality. Volvo gave the interior a tasteful yet simple treatment of wood and metal giving it a more classy look than some of its rivals.
The front seats offer superior comfort and support for both long and short trips and the rear seats are equally comfortable as well. The trunk space is, however, quite restricted as compared to the rivals offering only 12 cu-ft.

The Acura TL has an equally spacious and comfortable cabin as the Volvo S60 but lacks the classy feeling and fit & finish levels of the Volvo S60. The Lexus ES has a slightly tighter cabin but the comfort levels are praiseworthy.
The infotainment system of the Volvo S60 comes quite decently equipped right from the base trim. The basic features on offer are Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, an eight-speaker sound system, a CD player, HD radio, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod/USB audio interface. The Platinum package further adds a 12-speaker premium sound system with DVD player, and a navigation system.
Infotainment features:
The Volvo S60 wears a classy yet attractive design that follows a distinctive Swedish style. Front end looks quite attractive with Volvo’s unique logo and clear lens projector headlamp units.
The roofline has a swooping design beginning from the hood and ends in the trunk lid. The default 17-inch wheels look quite elegant too and the ground clearance is adequate as well.

The Acura TL has an unimpressive design language barring the chrome front grille design and the sleek headlamp units. The Lexus ES comes with Lexus’ spindle grille design and an attractive headlamp design along with a smooth and curvy overall design.
As it is expected out form a Volvo sedan, the car bagged some excellent safety ratings. The NHTSA gave it a top 5-star rating while the IIHS gave it their best possible “Good” rating. The standard safety features of the sedan include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, whiplash-reducing front head restraints and City Safety. The City Safety feature assists the driver by applying brakes in time if the system detects any obstruction at speeds up to 19mph.
Safety features:
The Volvo S60 sedan remains true to the brand’s reputation of making super safe vehicles with excellent crash scores and advanced safety features. The comfort levels of the sedan are also better than some of the rivals in the segment and also has a premium cabin too. On the outside, the sedan attracts the right set of buyers with its timeless Swedish styling.
