Though they are diversified as trims it would be better to call them options. All the trims come with the exact same powertrain and drivetrain features with just an additional increase in features according to the package you are willing to take.

It has the exact same features and powertrain on offer as you will get to see on the higher end models with just some minor enhancements that will be added for the packages on offer. So we recommend you stick with the 3.5 L trim. 

The 2014 Acura MDX is powered by a 3.5 Liter V6 engine churning out 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. The power plant is coupled with a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission that knows its job quite well. Along with that, it comes with a front-wheel-drive layout indicating that the engine propels the front wheels only.

Though the Acura comes with a V6 engine it does not feature either a rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel-drive. However, the Acura is the most power in the segment in terms of the engine output it has on offer. The Audi Q5 comes with a 2.0-liter engine but surprisingly it features an all-wheel-drive setup which all the rivals miss out on.

The 2014 Acura MDX has a fuel efficiency of 20 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. The V6 engine performs well above average for the most part. The Audi having a 2.0-liter engine and an all-wheel-drive drivetrain delivers the same economy which the Acura delivers.
