Overall Rating
The 2014 Chrysler 300 has been one of the potential threats to the vehicles in the premium sedan market. The powerful engine options and impeccable interior design do make a strong case.
Chrysler 300 is a full-size sedan built to be driven. The car is large, exceptionally powerful, and offers a choice between a V-6 and a V-8. The cabin is luxurious and loaded with technology. All these features make it a fair competition against other premium sedans. The Chrysler 300 stands up to American competition like the Buick LaCrosse and the Chevrolet Impala.
The exterior styling and the proportions of the sedan are great. Some higher trims even offer sleek durability and performance spec parts. Powering the 2014 Chrysler 300 is a 3.6L V-6 that makes 300 horsepower, while the SRT8 trim is powered with a V-8 making 470 horsepower and 470 torque. The drivetrain is RWD as standard, though most models offer an AWD.
The 300S is a unique offering with racing spec underpinnings and unique styling. For the enthusiasts, that is the best option. The luxury features offered in the 300C are also quite attractive, and for people looking for a family car or a daily driver that would be the choice. Additionally, we would skip the AWD for the RWD.

The 2014 Chrysler 300 gets six primary trim levels: 300, 300S, 300C, 300C John Varvatos Luxury Edition, the SRT8 Core, and the SRT8. Only the SRT8 trims are powered by a 6.4L V-8 motor, while the rest of the cars come with a 3.6L V-6. Optionally a 5.7L V-8 is available on all trims, except the base and the SRT8, that puts up 363 horsepower.

The Chrysler 300 is powered by a 300 horsepower V-6 motor as standard. Though the 300S and the 300C come with the optional 5.7L HEMI V-8 making 363 horsepower. The SRT8 has a 6.4L V-8 making 470 horsepower and 470 foot-pounds of torque.
Every Chrysler 300 comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a rear-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive grants control in colder climates, though it takes away from the agile steering of the car.

The Chrysler 300 gets off the mark rather quickly, though the Buick LaCrosse is faster to 60 mph. The 300 builds up speed and comes close to the LaCrosse as the cars approach the quarter-mile. All three competitors have the potential to be neck and neck for quarter-mile sprints.
The 8-speed gearbox surprisingly makes the car brilliantly efficient. The V-6 in rear-wheel-drive gives the car 19 mpg in cities, 31 mpg on highways, and 23 mpg combined. Add to it the AWD drivetrain, and the efficiency becomes 18/27/21 in cities, highways, and combined. The 5.7L V-8 returns a fuel economy of 18 mpg combined for the RWD and 18 mpg for the AWD. The large V-8 6.4L motor is the least efficient of the lot. The engine is only available with a rear-wheel-drive, and a 5-speed automatic transmission. The SRT8 returns just 17 mpg combined.

Compared to the competitors, the Chrysler 300 is the most efficient. The car also has the largest fuel tank of 19.1 gallons, providing the best range in the class of 470 miles approximately. The 2014 Chevrolet Impala and the Buick LaCrosse perform similarly with 21 mpg combined. Since the rivals hold a smaller fuel tank, their overall range get affected and therefore Chrysler offers the best range of 592 miles.
The Chrysler 300’s cabin isn't the most well-styled or uber-luxurious, though it offers some great space and even high-grade materials. Every trim has soft-touch materials laid out in the cabin. The 300S adds some unique character with its two-tone color schemes. The John Varvatos Luxury Edition even adds premium leather and real wood in the cabin.
There is plenty of room for all occupants in the cabin. The driver’s seat can be adjusted to fit your preferences just right, while the rear seats are supremely spacious. The center seat on the rear row continues the same back support from the other two seats, though the tunnel in the center of the floor takes away from available space.

Comparing the space in the cabin, all the cars in the lineup provide similar space in the rear row. The Chevrolet impala has the best front row legroom on offer and also has the best height. We found the second-row middle seat in the Buick LaCrosse to be the most comfortable. Some standout interior features in the Chrysler 300 are:
Even the base variants of the car feature an 8.4-inch touchscreen LCD display. The system has a large button and brilliant graphics with an easy-to-use menu.
There is also a diverse range of audio options, including an Alpine system, a Harman Kardon premium system, and a Beats premium audio. Standard features like AM/FM, Satellite Radio, Bluetooth are also included. Some standout features in the cabin are:
The 2014 Chrysler continues the same classic and well-proportioned design that it has worn since 2005. The clean shape and the LED DRLs on the headlamps give it a premium look. The front grille with the chrome finish or the SRT8 with the blacked-out finish are both highly appealing.
The base RWD car comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while higher trims get 18-inch ones. The AWD variants stick to 19-inch wheels on all trims, while the rear-wheel-drive variants move up to 20-inch wheels in the higher trims.

The sedan is broad in a muscular way, although it still has rounded corners and edges. The front headlamps are Xenon lamps with modern-looking DRLs. The taillamps are full-LED units. Compared to its competitors, the Chrysler 300 is most definitely the largest car of the bunch. Although the Chevy impala beats it in overall length. Some standout exterior features are:
The federal safety testing agency NHTSA has rated the car for a 5-star overall rating, though it loses a point in rollover ratings. The IIHS has also awarded the car with a generally good rating, though the car performs badly in the front small overlap, which makes it miss out on the “Top Safety Pick '' award. Every Chrysler 300 gets a Hill-start assist, Rain braking support, and Ready-Alert Braking. On higher trims, the SafetyTec options package includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision warning. Some standout safety features with the 2014 Chrysler 300 are:
The 2014 Chrysler 300 is a mixture of practicality and driving character. The interiors are top notch and have some of the best attention to detail and quality at this price point. The powertrain options are well powered and improve the drivability of the car. Overall considering most sedans are built for convenience or family use, the Chrysler 300 is still built for the driver and has some great character. It is most definitely a highly recommended option in the full-size sedan segment.
