The massive vehicle becomes quite difficult to maneuver around urban roads, and as such we would recommend the rear-view camera offered in the XLT 201A package. The XLT should satiate all your space and feature requirements with its additional packages. While the King Ranch trim seems unnecessarily expensive.

Powering the SUV is a 5.4L V-8 motor with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain puts up 310 horsepower and 365 foot-pounds of torque.

Rear-wheel-drive is standard, though a 4-wheel-drive with lower gearing for a better towing capability can be had. The 2014 Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,200 pounds.

The Ford with its large frame is pretty slow to get up to speed. The SUV takes 8.5 seconds to touch 60 mph. The Toyota Sequoia has the best power output of the competitors and is the quickest of the lot to get to both 60 mph and the quarter-mile. The Toyota also has the largest displacement engine.

A full-size SUV is not going to be frugal in its consumption. Though most buyers generally expect this. The rear-wheel-drive models are rated at 14 mpg in cities, 20 mpg on highways, and 16 mpg combined. The all-wheel-drive variant fares worse with 13 mpg on urban streets, 18 mpg on highways, and 15 mpg combined.

The 2014 Ford Expedition has a massive 28-gallon fuel tank that gives it a range of up to 470 miles. The Chevrolet Tahoe is much more efficient in comparison and returns approximately the same numbers as a smaller tank. The Toyota Sequoia is the least efficient of the lot with just 15 mpg combined.

The interiors are styled simply, yet highly attractive and supremely spacious. The dials and knobs are easy to use and the upscale models are particularly easy to use and get used to. The cabin is spacious and can fit large passengers in the third row as well. The standard 40/20/40 split seats in the rear row even allow reclining to maximize comfort. 

The cargo room is exceptionally large with 18.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row. When folded down the third row allows 42.6 cubic feet of space. A maximum space of 108.3 cubic feet can be achieved by folding both the third and the second row down.

The interiors of the 2014 Ford Expedition scale up in the higher trims, though even then some hard plastics in the cabin spoil the experience. The Ford undoubtedly has the best space in the third row. Particularly when compared to the Chevy Tahoe’s 24.8-inch legroom. The storage space on the Toyota Sequoia is the highest at 18.9 cubic feet. How intuitive is the 2018 Ford Expedition’s infotainment unit?

The 2014 Ford Expedition does not offer the MyFord Touch infotainment system, but instead the Sync system from earlier years. The system includes voice commands and some functionality in connectivity and Bluetooth. Ford also offers a new dual-headrest DVD system. The 6.5-inch touchscreen optionally with the navigation setup isn't bad, though it does show its age. The audio is a 6-speaker 340 watt system with AM/FM and AUX compatibility. The exteriors for the 2014 Ford Expedition look a bit on the dated side. Though even then they are supremely large. The exteriors haven't kept up with the F-150 truck which has gone through several iterations over the years.

The F-150 has crisper and more aggressive lines, while the Expedition continues the rounder shape. You get 18-inch alloy wheels as standard on the SUV, though the King Ranch variant offers 20-inch upgrades.

Comparing the Exterior, the Toyota Sequoia is undoubtedly the largest SUV in the competition, owing to its long wheelbase, and width. The Ford sits on the lighter side of the competition, with the Sequoia being the heaviest. The Ford Expedition offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is overcome by the Tahoe’s 9.1-inches and the Sequoia’s 10.0 inches.

The IIHS has not tested the new Ford Expedition for crashworthiness, though the NHTSA has awarded the SUV a 4 out of 5 stars overall. It gets 4 stars for frontal crash and rollover safety. All models get 5-stars from the NHTSA for side crash safety. The Ford Expedition is fitted with the standard side-impact airbags and curtain airbags for all three rows. The performance is decent for the class, though the engine tends to be finicky while towing higher loads. Overall the SUV has begun showing age, and with an update due soon, the SUV is not recommended for 2014.
