Overall Rating
The previous generation Quattroporte was a style icon in itself but the cramped interiors and the underpowered Ferrari-sourced engine made opting for the mass-market German sedans that much easier.
The previous generation Quattroporte was a style icon in itself but the cramped interiors and the underpowered Ferrari-sourced engine made opting for the mass-market German sedans that much easier. The new age Quattroporte is longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor and promises to be quicker and more fun than ever before while maintaining its Italian heritage in terms of its styling.
The GTS trim costs about $150k and hence it becomes too expensive and sometimes out of budget for some buyers. Considering the fact that there is more enough performance and luxury available with the S Q4 trim, opting for that and then wisely choosing the options makes more sense.

The 2014 Quattroporte is offered in two different trims, each powered by a different engine as well. The base S Q4 trim gets a twin-turbo V6 engine while the higher GTS trim gets a larger and more powerful V8 engine. The GTS trim also adds a whole lot of premium luxury functionality to the car which the base trim misses out on.

The GTS trim costs about $150k and hence it becomes too expensive and sometimes out of budget for some buyers. Considering the fact that there is more enough performance and luxury available with the S Q4 trim, opting for that and then wisely choosing the options makes more sense.
The 2014 Quattroporte is powered by two immensely capable engines, beginning with the S Q4 trim which gets a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 404 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, while the GTS is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that is capable of producing a whopping 523 hp and 524 lb-ft. Both the engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the S Q4 trim is available only with an AWD drivetrain while the GTS sticks to a rear-wheel-drive setup.

The Audi S8 is only marginally cheaper than the Maserati Quattroporte and yet gets a much higher power and torque output which makes it the fastest sedan in this comparison. The BMW 750Li and the Panamera GTS both have similar acceleration timings despite the $20,000 price difference between them. The Maserati is the slowest of the lot due to the lower engine output it has to offer.
Although forced induction is a good way of producing more power from a smaller engine while not compromising much on its efficiency, the performance sedans like the Quattroporte aren’t as frugal as their regular luxury sedan counterparts. The base S Q4 trim with standard AWD has been rated for 18 mpg of combined city and highway driving, while the larger V8 is rated for 16 mpg even with the RWD configuration.

All the cars in this comparison, except for the Maserati, have almost identical fuel efficiency figures. The Porsche Panamera features the largest gas tank and hence has a class-leading driving range to offer. The Audi S8 has a larger fuel tank capacity than the Maserati while the BMW employs a gas tank capacity identical to that of the Quattroporte.
The cabin of the Quattroporte is exactly what you would expect from a luxury Italian car, it oozes premium quality materials which include leather, wood, and carbon fiber, and can be customized based on the buyer’s preference.
The space for rear-seat passengers is now much more usable than before and the large trunk can also be extended by folding down the rear seat, although we doubt anybody would like to carry cargo on the precious Italian leather seats.

The BMW 750Li with its stretched-out wheelbase is clearly the roomiest of them all and has the maximum rear-seat space to offer. Its trunk is also only marginally smaller than the Maserati while the Audi S8 has the smallest boot space. The Porsche Panamera GTS has the most compact rear seat in this comparison but the trunk volume is on par with the segment.Â
The 2014 Quattroporte now employs a much more modern and minimalist design with controls that are simple and intuitive to use. The infotainment system is pretty slick too but the fact that it can be easily found on other Chrysler vehicles is a disheartening fact for most buyers. The available features list is pretty extensive and is a much-needed upgrade from the previous generation.Â
Similar to the cabin, the exterior too is unmistakable Italian in design. The car looks more sculpted than manufactured and the sharp and smooth flowing character lines make the car stand out in the crowd like a supermodel on a ramp. The headlamps look a tad small in size for the size of the car but then who has understood fashion completely yet?

The Maserati Quattroporte is the longest and widest of them all but it is the BMW 7-series that has the longest wheelbase to offer, which helps it open that excessive rear-seat space. The BMW also has the best ground clearance in this comparison while the Audi S8 and the Porsche Panamera ride much closer to the ground.
The exorbitantly high prices and the low sales volume of the Quattroporte make it unjustifiable to crash test the car and hence expecting it to happen in the future is also futile. There is a decent number of features that are available as standard but it lacks a lot when compared to the German rivals which are all feature-packed with the latest and greatest features available today.
The 2014 Maserati Quattroporte has become a much more rounded and well-balanced high-performance luxury sedan than the previous generation and hence is now a much stronger competitor to its rivals. That being said, it still lacks technology and safety features which they offer for a few years now, and then there is a higher price tag as well. If sophisticated looks and Italian craftsmanship have you going and you can overcome its shortcomings, the Quattroporte is a solid offering in this segment.
