The 2014 Nissan Altima is equipped with two engine options that provide great power output and thus compete with the other equally capable sedans like the Ford Fusion and the Honda Accord.
The Nissan Altima is a successful and well-made sedan, that simple and yet much more than most of its competitors. The car had a redesign last year, which made it attuned to the current styling by Nissan. The Altima is Nissan’s best-selling sedan in the market and is overall a highly popular and supremely competent offering by the automaker.
The Altima has a well-tuned handling and a smooth ride quality. The CVT is surprisingly well-tuned and super responsive, and yet manages to return great fuel economy. The car is offered with two engine options, a 2.5L inline-4 making 182 horsepower and a 3.5L V-6 making 270 horsepower. Either powertrain is offered as a front-wheel-drive. The Altima stands up to other mid-size sedan offerings in the market like the Ford Fusion and the Honda Accord.
The SV trim makes the most sense in the lineup, while the SL trim adds premium features. Either engine configuration is well tuned with the CVT, though the 3.5L V-6 is recommended for smoother ride quality and the true driving character the sedan can offer. Powering the Altima 2.5 is a 2.5L inline-4 engine that makes 182 horsepower and 180 foot-pounds of torque. The engine is mated to the Xtronic CVT transmission, which is standard across the whole Altima lineup. The larger 3.5L V-6 engine is also offered on almost every model of the sedan, this engine puts up 270 horsepower and 251 foot-pounds of torque.
Nissan has managed to tune the powertrain to deliver the great response and brilliant fuel economy, though, in spirited acceleration, the inline-4 engine tends to get a bit raucous. Every Altima further features a front-wheel-drive.

Considering the acceleration, the Altima with its 2.5L engine zips to the 60 mph mark in 8.2 scones, which is amongst the quickest in its segment. Further, the sedan also touches the quarter-mile in 16.3 seconds, which is also on the quicker side. The 3.5L V-6 manages to reach 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. The Honda Accord has a better power output from the motor, though the CVT in this case is more attuned for smoothness than throttle response.
Fuel economy was lacking in the previous generation of the Altima. Though with the carefully tuned CVT, the sedan manages to compete with the offers by the South Koreans, Hyundai, and Kia. The 2.5L engine manages 27 mpg in cities, 38 mpg on highways, and 31 mpg combined. With the 3.5L V-6, the Nissan Altima has 22 mpg in cities, 31 on highways, and 25 mpg combined.

The Nissan Altima further has a large 18-gallon fuel tank, that allows it to cover more than 580 mpg on a full tank. The range is far more than almost any competitor in the market currently. Owing the 2.5 Nissan Altima will make gas stations a rare occurrence. Both the rivals in the segment stand behind the 31 mpg combined mileage of Altima.
The 2014 Nissan Altima has a roomy cabin enough to fit 4 people in comfort. Headroom is also great in the rear row for taller passengers. The “Zero Gravity” seats in the car are based on research by NASA and are perfectly suited for long-distance trips.
The driver’s seat is 6-way power-adjustable and can be upgraded to 8-way adjustable. The rear seat is laid back and offers ample contouring to accommodate two passengers. Three passengers will also find the rear row comfortable for shorter trips.

The rear row legroom is a bit longer than the previous generation for the Altima, though compared to the class, it is a bit on the lower side. The incline angle of the seats in the rear though makes them perfectly capable of carrying passengers with minimal jostling around. The boot space at 15.4 cubic feet is about average for the class. The 2013 redesign brought the Altima a tasteful redesign on the exterior. The car looks more like its larger sibling, the Nissan Maxima, which is also more in tune with the Infiniti lineup. Nissan has better sheet metal exteriors, which look much more rigid.
The arrow-like motifs are much more apparent in the headlights and the tail lamps. The front grille is chrome lined, which is rather well proportioned.
