Overall Rating
Minivans may not be the first choice of cars for most buyers, but there is no getting around the fact that the boxy vans are the spacious way of moving large numbers of people and cargo comfortably within or outside the city.

The Toyota Sienna is one such minivan that can be considered as one of the most well-rounded minivans with a spacious, comfortable, and well-built cabin which is available in a wide array of trims to best suit different budgets and needs of the buyers.
The XLE trim has been the more popular choice amongst buyers as it adds a whole load of more features to the mix that make the experience more comfortable and luxurious and still keeps the prices in check. Although the optional packages could make it pricier and hence needs to opt for smartly.

The Toyota Sienna is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission while the power is sent to the front wheels only.
There is an option for an AWD to choose from which isn’t available in the base L and SE trims. The engine is rated for 266 hp and 245 lb-ft of torque which is enough to propel this large minivan to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds from standstill.

The Dodge Grand Caravan is the most affordable van in this comparison and yet it has the highest engine output which translates to one of the quickest acceleration timings in the segment. The Honda Odyssey is the priciest of the lot and despite having the lowest power output it manages to be quicker than the Sienna.
The minivans of this segment are large and bulky which does not bode well with the fuel efficiency of the cars. Thus the EPA rated 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway and the 21 mpg of combined city and highway driving is rather good for the Sienna. The large 20-gallon fuel tank does help with a long driving range.

The Honda Odyssey is the more efficient van off the lot and the larger gas tank that it employs means that it has the best driving range to offer. The Dodge Grand Caravan on the other hand has marginally higher fuel consumption than the Sienna and an identical fuel tank capacity, which translates to slightly more frequent gas station visits.
The Sienna boasts of one of the most premium cabins at this price point, as even the base trim gets attractive interiors with high-quality materials for most parts, while the top-end trim gets wood, leather, and chrome elements to make it feel even more premium.
There is abundant space on offer in all three rows of seats and the cargo capacity is one of the best, if not the best in the segment. The Sienna can opt with either 7-passenger or 8-passenger capacity depending on the choice of the buyers.

There is no competition for space on offer inside the Honda Odyssey and the amount of luggage space is also similar to that of the new Toyota Sienna. Even the third row of the Odyssey is spacious enough to seat adults comfortably while the Dodge van lacks any room whatsoever for the third row.
There is abundant technology on offer with the Sienna, beginning with the touchscreen interface which although is pretty easy to use but is difficult to reach while on the move and the virtual buttons are slow to respond in some cases.
There’s plenty of other features on offer and the optional rear-seat entertainment setup gets dual screens that can be used separately to keep the kids in the back entertained.
There is no doubt that minivans are difficult to style and the boxy nature is what makes them so practical and spacious in the first place. Hence, Toyota too continues the same with design philosophy, putting form over style and has a very modern yet mundane looking appearance for the Sienna.
Although, a larger set of wheels could have added a bit more appeal to the car as the available 17-inch and 18-inch ones look a tad small for a car this size.

There is hardly anything to separate between the three minivans in this battle in terms of exterior dimensions as all of them have been stretched to the absolute limits to provide a spacious and comfortable experience. They all weigh similar as well but the Sienna has the highest ground clearance while the Honda Odyssey rides the closest to the ground.
Toyota is known for making safe and reliable family cars around the world and it does intend on letting this image be hampered in a family-focussed car like the Sienna. Thus, the perfect 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA and the solid ratings in the crash tests conducted by the IIHS should not come forward as a surprise to anybody. There are plenty of safety features and driver aids available as standard and some of them are listed below.
The 2014 Toyota Sienna offers immense value to large family buyers with kids that need to be kept entertained even when on the move, to keep them from wreaking havoc for their parents. The large, comfortable, and spacious cabin, with high-quality materials and abundant features, together with an impeccable safety record, makes the Sienna a top pick in the minivan segment.
