The Volvo S60 sedan is offered in three main trim levels, T5, T6, and T6 R-Design. The sedan gets two engines powering it, a base 2.5-liter I-5 motor and a bigger 3.0-liter I-6 motor that is further available in two states of tune, a 300 horsepower unit, and a 325 horsepower unit for the R-Design. The base T5 trim starts at a price of $32,400 for the FWD layout and offers almost all the premium features you could ask for in a luxury sedan. The features include automatic headlights, headlight washers, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat, driver memory settings, power-folding rear headrests, a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, T-Tec cloth upholstery, a 7-inch display screen, and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player. The T6 trim gets the bigger I-6 motor along with some performance-oriented upgrades such as standard all-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels, stiffer suspension tuning, sport front seats, paddle shifters, and bright window trim. The T6 R-Design gets a power increase of 50 horsepower and is fully focused on delivering a sporty driving experience with a sport steering wheel, sport-tuned suspension, and upgraded brakes.

We Recommend
We would suggest you the T5 with the AWD layout if you want a well-equipped sedan. The T6 would be best if you desire more performance and features out from the sedan with a reasonable increase in price.
The Volvo S60 sedan is powered by a turbocharged 2.5liter I-5 motor, a configuration that is not seen in most of the segment rivals. The motor delivers a maximum of 250 horsepower and 266lb-ft of torque. The sedan comes in a standard FWD layout and gets a 6-speed automatic transmission that does a good job of managing all the power from the engine efficiently to provide a seamless driving experience.
The motor offers a punchy performance and hits 60mph from a standstill within 6.4 seconds. The refinement levels are decent and the motor doesn’t feel stressed even under a full load. The turbo lag is quite well contained and the throttle response is commendable as per the luxury sedan standards.

The Acura TL has a much bigger 3.5liter V6 motor hence, it delivers more horsepower but the S60’s I-5 excels at delivering an impressive torque output. The Lexus ES has decent performance but has the least torque output among the three on the list.
The Volvo S60 has decent fuel economy ratings considering its performance and power figures. The city mileage of the sedan is rated at 21mpg while the highway mileage is rated at 30mpg. The combined mileage is rated at 24mpg.

The Acura TL has the least fuel economy figures on paper but actually does an impressive job considering the impressive power output it offers. The Lexus ES is the most fuel-efficient sedan on the list.
The cabin of the Volvo S60 is on par with the rivals with a bit of Scandinavian approach to the interior trims such as the wood and metal trims. The overall plastic, leather, and vinyl are of premium quality and the fit and finish levels are commendable for the segment. The layout of the controls is pretty straightforward and easy to use and the centrally-mounted infotainment screen looks nice on the dashboard.
The front seats offer a good amount of comfort and support for both long and short trips, making it better than some of its rivals in the segment. The rear seats are quite comfortable as well but might feel cramped for tall adults owing to the shortage of legroom and footroom. The trunk space is also smaller than average at 12 cu-ft.

The Acura TL lacks the premium feel of the S60 on the inside and fails to offer a matching comfort level for the front seats as compared to the latter. The Lexus ES has a plush and luxurious cabin with adequate comfort and boasts a decent trunk capacity of 14.8 cu-ft.
The infotainment system of the Volvo S60 comes with a centrally mounted 7-inch display screen and covers almost all the basic entertainment features. The available standard features are Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, an eight-speaker sound system, a CD player, HD radio, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod/USB audio interface.Â
Infotainment features:
The Volvo S60 is one of the best looking modern sedans on the market from the brand and it looks more appealing than most of its rivals including its German counterparts as well.
The design refresh has given the sedan a new hood along with a bigger Volvo emblem on the front grille flanked by the brilliant-looking headlamp units with LED running lights. The side profile remains neat as ever and the rear end looks quite polished as well.

The Acura TL looks bland in front of the S60 and has a forgettable design apart from its stylish front grille and the headlamp units. The Lexus ES comes with Lexus’ new Spindle grille along with a premium-looking design that gels well with the sedan’s luxury status.
As you can expect from a Volvo car, the S60 sedan comes with some excellent safety scores. The sedan aced the NHTSA tests with a perfect 5-star rating and the IIHS gave it a maximum possible “Good” rating as well. The standard safety features of the sedan includes antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, and City Safety. The City Safety feature helps the driver to avoid rear-ending any vehicle at speeds of up to 19mph by automatically applying the brakes.
Safety features:
The Volvo S60 is a brilliant offering in the segment at a competitive price and can act as a great alternative to so0me mainstream German and Japanese compact luxury sedans. It does come with a few shortcomings such as a cramped rear seat and a small trunk but it offers top-notch safety, superior built quality, and a lively performance from a compact motor.
