The 2015 Audi A8 sedan is offered in two trim levels and two engine choices. The base trim is named 3.0T, owing to the 3.0liter V6 it houses. It is priced at $77,400 and comes standard with a Quattro AWD system. Other comfort and convenience features include adaptive air suspensions, dual-zone automatic climate control, full leather upholstery, and an Audi MMI infotainment interface. 

The higher 4.0T packs in a more powerful 4.0liter V8 motor and is priced at $86,400. It has all the features of the 3.0T and further adds active noise cancellation, LED rear reading lights, and rear passenger vanity mirrors. There are several stand-alone options available to further equip the sedan for a maximum ownership experience.

The optional upgrades include adaptive cruise control, a sport differential, enhanced steering, automatic high-beam control, night vision with pedestrian and animal detection, a lane-departure warning and keeping system, a sunroof with a solar panel-powered auxiliary cooling fan, ventilated 18-way power-adjustable front seats, sport seats with diamond-stitched upholstery and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system.

If performance is your second option, then we would recommend you the base 3.0T with any of the available optional upgrades of your choice. For performance-oriented buyers, the 4.0T trim is more suitable.

The Audi A8 is powered by a 3.0liter supercharged V6 motor under the hood. The motor is capable of generating a maximum of 333 horsepower and 325lb-ft of torque. The power figures are good enough and the power delivery is excellent in a straight line. 

The motor boasts of high refinement levels and remains silent most of the time. The active noise cancellation system inside the cabin further filters out the remaining exterior sounds as well. The sedan can complete the 0-60mph dash within 5.2 seconds flat, an impressive feat for a V6-powered luxury sedan. The motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that channels all the power to all four wheels of the vehicle via the Quattro system. 

The Quattro system minimizes wheel-spin under sudden hard acceleration and provides excellent traction on slippery surfaces. The handling of the sedan is also on-point considering the luxury sedan standards and the adaptive air suspension system just glides over any rough and uneven patches of roads without unsettling the occupants.

The BMW 740Li has a much lower power output than the A8 but has a better torque output. It also comes with excellent handling and ride quality but doesn’t really match with the driving dynamics of the A8. The Jaguar XJ has the highest power output among the three on the list and the same is the case with its torque output as well.

The big and comfy sedans have begun to offer some impressive fuel economy ratings and the 2015 Audi A8 has caught up with the trend quite well. The sedan returns a maximum of 19mpg of city mileage and highway mileage of 29mpg. The city mileage stands at 25mpg.

The BMW 740Li has near-to-identical overall fuel economy ratings as the Audi A8 sedan while the Jaguar XJ falls short in front of the rivals. But it is somewhat considerable owing to the high power figures of the sedan.

Interior comfort and features are the main considering points while buying one. The 2015 Audi A8 is all set to please most buyers with its dynamic interior design and superior build quality. The cabin is filled with an abundance of high-quality materials and high-tech features, employing rich wood-accents and soft leather surfaces to further complement it. 

The front seats are extremely comfortable with a 14-way power adjustment function for both the driver and front passenger seats. The optional 18-way adjustable ventilated seats further enhances passenger satisfaction, and the included massage functions will further enhance the experience.

The BMW 740Li has a better headroom for the front passengers and comes with an equally plush cabin as the Audi A8 and evenly matches with the latter in terms of comfort and convenience features as well. The Jaguar XJ has almost similar cabin dimensions as the rivals on the list but lacks some luxury features such as the power closing doors and massage function offered in the A8 sedan.

Infotainment

The infotainment system onboard the Audi A8 meets almost all the expectations of a buyer by offering a rich and feature-loaded experience. The system comes with Audi’s excellent MMI interface with a vibrant and high-definition 8.0-inch color display. A notable feature of the system is the touchpad on which the driver can trace letters and enter an address to set the destination on the maps. 

The navigation system uses direct cellular data from carriers such as T-Mobile and displays an intuitive map straight from Google Earth. The optional Bang & Olufsen Advanced sound system has 19 speakers, including small tweeters at the either side of the dashboard and emerge at startup, providing more than 1400 watts of power.

Audi has focused heavily on the interior of the A8 to provide the best experience but it has not skimped on the exterior design at all. The new LED headlamps and the tail lamps are standard across the trim levels and do look truly spectacular when lit up.

The A8’s wide and tall front grille with chrome lining and the sleek air dams give a mixture of mildly aggressive yet understated looks. The windows are tastefully lined with chrome strips and the side-profile looks slim as well.

The BMW 740Li has a more uplifting design language with some smooth and sculpted lines, rising from the front end continues all the way to the rear-end, giving a distinctive look to the sedan. The Jaguar XJ looks a bit muscular with its wide-body appeal and the chromed mesh front grille makes it stand out from the crowd easily.

Safety is something that the German brands nearly mastered a long time ago and set very high standards in the automobile industry. The Audi A8, unfortunately, doesn’t come with any safety ratings owing to its low sales volume and high price tag. But it does come with excellent safety features that ensure complete protection in almost all situations. 

The standard safety features of the sedan are antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, front knee airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a rearview camera, and Audi's Pre-Sense system that tightens the seatbelts and shuts the sunroof and windows upon detecting hard braking.
