The 2015 Audi R8 is a two-seat mid-engine exotic supercar available in Coupe and Spyder (convertible) body styles. There are five available trim levels: V8, V10, the Coupe-only V10 Plus, and V10 Competition. All these are implemented with a variety of standard equipment, plus a host of optional amenities to suit some specific requirements. There is also a difference in the way the powertrain is tuned based on the trim you purchase.

There are a couple of recommendations here based on personal requirements. If you are looking forward to buying the R8 purely for its performance, then we suggest you opt for the V10 Plus, as it gets a higher performing engine along with most of the basic amenities. However, since this version omits luxuries like heated seats, a navigation system, premium audio, and stereo and also features a smaller fuel tank, we would recommend the V10 trim to suit the best for convenience seekers.

Mechanically, all the versions of the Audi R8 are equipped with the same powertrain. The 2015 Audi R8 V8 is powered by a 4.2-liter V8 mounted behind the passenger compartment that sends 430 hp and 317 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels.

A six-speed manual transmission with an exposed-gate metal shifter is standard, while a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual, known as S Tronic, is optional and includes steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. The limited-edition R8 Competition (coupe only) offers the highest-output V10 available in the R8 lineup along with several aesthetic exterior trim upgrades.

The Audi R8 in its most basic form is not the most powerful in the lot. The 430 HP V8 is just enough to make ties with the Porsche 911 Carrera. Meanwhile, it is the 6.2L V-8 inside the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT that delivers the raw power in the form of 583 HP followed by the Ferrari 458 Italia. This results in a slower quarter-mile performance of the R8.

It is extremely unfair to expect scintillating figures of fuel consumption from a supercar. The same goes for the Audi R8, which everything but pleases with its economy. Consuming premium unleaded fuel, the coupe is good enough to drive around 13 miles to a gallon in the cities, while the same can deliver up to 20 MPG on highways. Well, given the amount of joy and enjoyment it offers, this seems like a small price to pay. 

All but one rival is more refined than the host. It is none other than the Porsche 911 Carrera with a 22 MPG fuel economy. However, it loses the edge as a result of a nominal fuel tank, which in the case of the Audi R8 is sound 23.8 gallons. This covers for the lost miles due to its extravagant character. Similar is the case with the SLS AMG GT and the Ferrari 458, only with a gallon less capacity.

With only 2 passenger accommodability, the Audi R8 has a modest amount of space in its cabin. Tall drivers may feel a bit of a pinch because of its abbreviated legroom measurement.

There is not much difference between its convertible model and the coupe. You can easily reach the controls, including slick features like the ignition button, which is located right on the steering wheel. The seats are very well padded to give maximum comfort to passengers. 

The interior dimensions are on par with the rivals, and there is no significant advantage or disadvantage in the interior segment. Ferrari, however, dominated by a slim margin exhibiting the most ergonomic cabin. At the same time, none of the vehicles have enough trunk capacity to be called practical.
