Overall Rating
The Audi S5 coupe comes with some subtle exterior design tweaks and upgrades to complement its performance-based status
The Audi S5 coupe is placed above the regular A5 and is the high-performance version of the latter. The S5 comes with some subtle exterior design tweaks and upgrades to complement its performance-based status but its overall design doesn’t work well when it comes to appealing to enthusiasts. Apart from that, the car provides adequate performance and comfort at a competitive price tag of $52,500.
We would suggest you the Prestige trim with any of the standalone features according to your preference. Some of the best additional options would be the torque vectoring differential, an adaptive suspension, and the High Gloss Black package.

The Audi S5 is offered in two trim levels, Premium Plus and Prestige. The coupe gets its power from a standard supercharged 3.0liter V6 coupled with a manual transmission or an automatic unit. The drivetrain layout is a standard Quattro system. The Premium Plus trim is priced at $52,500 and comes with plenty of interior features as well as a plush cabin. The Prestige further adds adaptive headlights, an upgraded 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen speaker system, and the Technology Package, which is optional on Premium Plus, as standard.
In the premium plus trim, the Technology Package further adds Bluetooth streaming audio, Audi Connect with online services and mobile WiFi, a navigation system, a 7-inch display, an upgraded MMI interface with console-mounted controls, HD radio, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and a blind-spot monitor. Some individual additional features include a torque-vectoring sport differential, an adaptive suspension, various interior trim accents, and a coupe-specific High Gloss Black package that adds special 19-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, body-color exterior mirrors, and gloss-black window surrounds.

The Audi S5 is powered by a V6 motor that is supplemented by an Eaton supercharger and it draws its power from premium unleaded gasoline. The motor is tuned to produce a maximum of 333horsepower and 325lb-ft of torque. The motor has a nice and deep engine note during brisk acceleration sessions but remains calm under normal driving conditions. The coupe can accelerate to 60mph from a standstill within 4.6 seconds, a commendable figure for a sports coupe.
The optional 6-speed manual transmission offers the liberty of redlining the motor and a more sporty driving feel but it is the 7-speed DCT that offers the best fuel efficiency owing to its tendency of staying at higher gear ratios most of the time. Handling is precise and the steering is on-point with no flat-spots at all. Since the S5 is a bit front-heavy owing to its front axle mounted transfer-case, you’ll feel some understeer while pushing the car around corners, but the fantastic Quattro system tries its best to contain the situation by sending a maximum chunk of power from the motor to the rear axle.

The BMW 435i comes with a turbocharged I-6 and has an identical horsepower and torque rating but falls short in front of the S5. The Mercedes-Benz C350 coupe comes with a naturally aspirated V6 and has a slightly better power output than the 435i coupe but is no match for the mighty S5.
The S5 returns some impressive fuel economy rating if we consider its powertrain configuration and the performance numbers. The coupe returns a city mileage of 18mpg and an impressive highway mileage of 28mpg. The combined mileage is rated at 21mpg.

The BMW 435i delivers way better fuel economy ratings than the S5 since it is less powerful than the latter. The Mercedes-Benz C350 disappoints a bit with its fuel economy numbers since it has almost similar power as the 435i but a way lower torque output than the latter.
As you would expect from any Audi vehicle, the interior of the S5 comes with quite an appealing design along with premium quality materials all over the cabin. The dashboard comes with an understated yet elegant design while the steering wheel boasts some aggressive grips for a better sporty feel.
The front seats are more than adequately comfortable and are covered with Alcantara and premium leather.Â
There is a soft-padded center armrest that also houses a small storage cubby for keeping your wallet and house keys. The seats offer exceptional lateral support in case you decide to go sideways or exit a sharp corner in style. The rear seats are average at the best with a decent amount of headroom and legroom for adults. The coupe also offers an impressive 12.2cu-ft of trunk capacity too that can hold two bigger than average suitcases and a smaller one easily.

The BMW 435i comes with a similar amount of cabin space to the Audi S5 but has a less sporty feel to it as compared to the latter. The Mercedes-Benz C350 falls short in front of the S5 and the 435i in terms of overall cabin space and has a below-average rear-seat space for adults.
Audi’s infotainment system is one of the best out there in the market and the S5 comes equipped with the same too. The standard MMI interface comes with either a 6.5-inch or a 7-inch display and integrates Bluetooth phone connectivity, a 10-speaker sound system, satellite radio, CD player, and iPod integration.
Upgrading to the Technology Package further adds Bluetooth streaming audio, Audi Connect with online services and mobile WiFi, a navigation system, an upgraded MMI interface with console-mounted controls, and HD radio.
Highlighted features of the infotainment system include:
The Audi S5 comes with some subtle yet tasteful exterior changes over the regular A5 coupe. The one-piece “Singleframe” front grille looks quite ordinary by today’s standards but the chrome detailing is a treat to the eyes if we compare it with the standard A5.
The S5 lacks sharp styling like some of its rivals but it gets the design just about right for a performance-oriented coupe. The side-profile looks slim with a sculpted design rising from the lower part of the front fenders and continues till the rear fenders. The rear-end looks quite identical to the A5 with no noticeable changes except for the quad exhaust tips and the S5 badging.

The BMW 435i comes with a more radical design language with sleek headlights accompanied with LED rings that look fantastic during both the daytime and at night. It is not as compact as the A5 and gets a better ground clearance as well. The Mercedes-Benz C350 looks faster by its design than it actually is. Its design is slated more towards the aggressive side and looks sleeker than both the S5 and the 435i coupes.
The Audi S5 has not been tested by either of the safety rating organizations i.e the NHTSA and the IIHS. Despite that, it comes with almost all the basic safety features to offer an all-round safety. The standard features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side and knee airbags and for the coupe full-length side curtain airbags. A blind-spot monitoring system, rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors are standard features on the Prestige trim but are offered as optional on Premium Plus trim through the Technology package.
Highlighted safety features of the S5 coupe are:
The Audi S5 stands as a strong contender in the luxury coupe segment with a strong performance and a well-appointed cabin. The coupe offers excellent comfort with driver focused front seats, an excellent infotainment system, a powerful performance from its supercharged V6 and a classy overall design.
