Overall Rating
The 2015 Fiat 500 is the super compact hatchback that has a distinct styling and design language. For 2014 it comes with very minor changes, including an updated instrument cluster but remains unchanged for the most.

Buying any other trim except the Turbo is an utter waste of money as they are all underpowered and are just about looks. The Fiat 500 ranges across four trim lines with two further sub-trims at varying price points. All trims except ‘Turbo’ come with the same 1.4 L Inline-4 sending the maximum power and torque of 101 hp and 97 lb-ft to all the wheels, which is pretty underpowered. The base-level Pop trim starts at $16,845, followed by the Sport trim that starts at $17,700, while the Lounge trim starts at $18,700.

Other than these trims, two more exclusive sub-trims are available, which are the Ribelle trim, which is a special color iteration of the base Pop trim, and the 1957 Edition trim, which is a trim based on the Lounge trim with some retro styling. There are no other mechanical or interior changes to these sub-trims from their respective bases. The top-end Turbo trim comes with a turbocharged engine outputting more power and starts at $19,700. All other trims except Turbo are available only with a manual transmission option, while the Turbo gets an option of 6-Speed automatic transmission.

The Fiat 500 Turbo comes with a turbocharged 1.4 L Inline-4 engine churning out 135 hp of maximum power and 150 lb-ft of maximum torque. The hatchback has the option of a 6-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual as their preferred transmission, while the lower trims come with a manual only. The Fiat 500 Turbo takes 8.1 seconds to reach a speed of 60 mph. The 500 is not a fun-to-drive machine when equipped with the base engine, that is, all trims except the Turbo, are dull and boring. The Turbo trim is more responsive and agile. The small size results in better maneuverability, and combined with the nimble handling, offers zippy performance to drive around town.

The Kia Soul is the most powerful of the lot outputting 164 hp and 151 lb-ft, followed by the Mazda Mazda 3 that outputs 155 hp and a torque of 150 lb-ft, whereas the Fiat produces 135 hp and 150 lb-ft of power and torque, respectively. The Mazda 3 is the fastest to reach 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, followed by the Fiat and Kia taking 8.1 and 8.4 seconds, respectively. The Mazda also has the highest top speed of 130 mph.
The Fiat 500 is a pretty fuel-efficient car. It delivers fuel efficiency of 28 mpg in the city, 34 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 30 mpg with its turbocharged engine. The Fiat has a low fuel capacity of 10.5 gallons, outputting a meager range of 294 miles in the city, 357 on the highway, and a combined range of 315 miles.

In comparison, the Mazda 3 is the most fuel-efficient, offering a combined efficiency of 33 mpg, followed by the Fiat and Kia offering 30 and 27 mpg, respectively. The Kia has the largest fuel capacity of 14.2 gallons, followed by the Mazda 3 with a fuel capacity of 13.2 gallons. The Fiat comes with the smallest 10.5-gallon fuel tank. The Mazda delivers the best-combined range of 435 miles, followed by the Kia and Fiat 500 delivering 383 and 315 miles, respectively.
The 2015 Fiat 500 has a small cabin along with spacious, comfortable, and supportive front-row seats. The rear row seats are, as expected, useless and not even worthy to be discussed. It can be used for ‘very little’ luggage or else ‘very little’ children can occupy them. The cabin has a retro vibe all around, which many might find impressive, while some might hate it. The materials and elements in the interior are of average quality, and the fit and finish is not super impressive but not very bad either. The higher-end trims feature leather-trimmed upholstery and steering along with power-adjustability for seats.

The Fiat is not very spacious, having the least legroom in the front and rear rows. The Mazda has the most legroom in the front row, whereas the Soul has the most in the second row. When it comes to cargo capacity, the Fiat again falls short of its rivals, offering a stupidly low cargo capacity of 9.5 cu-ft, while the Mazda offers 20.2 cu-ft and the Kia Soul offers significantly better cargo space, measuring 24.2 cu-ft. Few key interior features in the Fiat include-
The Fiat 500 features an optional 4.3-inch touchscreen TomTom infotainment unit with navigation. Otherwise, there is a standard basic infotainment unit with Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, USB ports, and a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio, HD radio, and single CD input. There is also an option to equip a premium Beats Audio sound system with an 8-channel 368-watt amplifier which sounds impressive. Other major infotainment features include-
The exterior beauty of the Fiat 500 is totally subjective, and for me personally, the 2015 Fiat looks beautiful, simple, and even sporty in some configurations. The side profile looks thin but distinctively stylish, with 16-inch wheels and Rosso red brake calipers adding to the sporty character of the vehicle. The Fiat 500 weighs 2,505 lbs, which is very light. The hatchback has a ground clearance of 4.5 inches, which is not very practical.

The new Fiat 500 comes with a lot of standard safety features, which include driver knee airbags, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. The Fiat 500 hatchback has been tested and rated by NHTSA and gets a 4-star rating for frontal crash protection. IIHS has also crash tested and rated the Fiat 500 with 'Poor' driver-side safety and 'Good' under all other criteria. The Fiat Turbo hatchback stops from 60 mph at a distance of 124 ft, while the lower trims stop at a more impressive distance of 115 ft. Major safety features include-
The Fiat 500 is a super small and stylish hatchback with an impressive exterior. But that’s where the positives end. It has more cons than pros, which include a useless rear row, a powerless base engine, and an increased price compared to other hatchbacks in the segment. The 500 hatchback is an option that some people will find impressive and useful for city drives with a co-passenger. But for everyone else, there are much better options including the Mazda 3 hatchback.
