Overall Rating
The 2015 GMC Acadia is a unibody crossover utility vehicle from the American auto giant and is placed between the GMC Terrain and the GMC Yukon SUVs.
The 2015 GMC Acadia has an overall rating of 7.9 and slots at number 7 in our mid-size, three-row SUV category. In GMC's lineup, it sits between the Terrain and the Yukon SUVs and shares its fundamentals with the Chevrolet Traverse, which also happens to be one of its closest rivals.
For the year 2015, GM has brought along minute configuration changes to this already well-rounded package. On the 2015 Acadia SLT-2 and Denali, buyers will now get heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel as standard. Apart from that, three new exterior colors and a new 20-inch wheel design have also been introduced.
We would recommend you to go for the SLE-2 if you need the SUV for utilitarian purposes along with the AWD layout for added practicality. If you can spare some more bucks, you can blindly go for the SLT-1 trim since it adds a host of practical and convenient features that do come in handy.

The 2015 Acadia is offered in five trims with the base trim being the SLE-1. Its price starts from $33,975 for the FWD version and as you climb up the trim levels, you get a host of useful and practical features on offer. All models also come with AWD for an additional $2000.

But the Acadia Denali is the most feature-loaded. It comes standard with features like forward collision warning, blind-spot alert, and lane departure warning. It also gets large 20-inch wheels along with several trim-specific badges to set itself apart from the rest of the lineup.
We would recommend you to go for the SLT trim of the GMC Acadia since it adds a host of practical and convenient features that do come in handy. There is also an optional Technology package that adds xenon headlights, a head-up display, and cargo area audio controls.
"When fully loaded with cargo or people and climbing steep grades, the Acadia struggles. Ride quality, on the other hand, is good, and handling is stable, even on twisty roads." -MotorTrend.Com
The GMC Acadia is powered by a standard 3.6L V6 motor that is good for a decent 281 horsepower and 266lb-ft of torque. Even though the power figures might seem good for the motor, it is barely enough for the huge SUV. The motor is good enough for performing ordinary and day-to-day tasks and occasional towing duties.
But its maximum towing capacity of 5200 lbs is class-leading. When equipped with the AWD layout, the SUV can be used on slightly challenging terrains but off-roading is not one of the Acadia’s forte. The Acadia suffers from a lacking acceleration too and can complete the 0-60 mph run in 7.8 seconds.

However, not many SUVs in this segment are that focused towards performance. When compared with the rivals on the list, the Acadia’s power figures are the same as the Traverse. They take the crown with their highest power output. The Toyota Highlander lags behind both in power and torque figures but is not that bad though.
Unsurprisingly, the GMC Acadia offers lackluster fuel economy ratings. The EPA-rated mpg estimates of the midsize SUV are 17 miles to the gallon in the city, which is quite poor. Out on the highways, the numbers increase to 24 mpg while the combined rating stands at 19 mpg. With the AWD setup, all that goes down by 1 mpg.

The Highlander offers a lot better fuel economy than the Acadia of 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. But thanks to the large 22.0-gallon gas tank of the Acadia, it is able to make up for fewer stops at the gas station in comparison to the Toyota Highlander by offering 528 miles of maximum driving range.
"All three rows have generous head- and legroom, and even the third row can comfortably seat adults on shorter trips, which is unusual in this class." -Cars.USNews.Com
The interior of the Acadia is not as disappointing as its fuel economy though, in fact, it is quite comfy and feature-rich. The cabin is covered with soft-touch materials mostly and the plastic bits are of high quality. This mid-size SUV can seat up to 8 with the third-row being able to offer 24.1 cu-ft of cargo space. The all-round view is a bit compromised though but is taken care of with the help of a rear-view camera.

For 2015, the SLT-2 and Denali modes also come standard with a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel to enhance comfort. The Toyota Highlander is the most spacious one on the list with the maximum head- and legroom on offer for both the front and the rear passengers. But overall the Traverse and Acadia are a lot more spacious, as they're the only ones with a more usable third row.
Some interior features of the 2015 GMC Acadia include:
The infotainment system onboard the 2015 Acadia is pretty basic and comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display. The system incorporates some basic features such as Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a CD Player, and so on. The system is easy to use and the user interface is smooth but tends to get fussy sometimes.

"Now in its seventh year of production, the GMC Acadia's handsome styling and crisp lines have helped this full-size crossover age with relative grace." -TheCarConnection.Com
Like the interior, the exterior of the Acadia looks pleasing too. The large 3-bar front grille dominates the front profile of the SUV while the side profile gives a muscular appearance with big wheel arches and curvy design language.
The headlights and the front bumper look quite stylish for an SUV and the rear profile looks equally appealing too with big wrap-around taillights. The Denali is even more of a head-grabber as it gets a chrome mesh grille instead of the normal one.

Still, you won’t find any tacked-on body cladding or garish add-ons. The Acadia looks the most handsome and pleasing as compared to its rivals on the list. The Toyota Highlander comes with the least ground clearance of 7.2 inches and also resembles a minivan more than an SUV.
The GMC Acadia aces the safety department too. It bagged some respectable safety ratings from both the NHTSA and the IIHS. The NHTSA awarded a perfect 5-star rating to the SUV while the IIHS also awarded the SUV with the best possible rating of “Good”. The vehicle comes with almost all the basic safety features and strong build quality as well.
Some safety features of the 2015 GMC Acadia include:
The Toyota Highlander just doesn't stand a chance against the Acadia. The GMC Acadia is cheaper, more powerful, and less expensive than the Highlander. It also has a significantly larger cargo hold. The only advantage the Highlander serves is of being more fuel-efficient and having more spacious first and second rows. But the Acadia has a bigger gas tank returning more range, and the third row is more accommodating as well.
The 2015 GMC Acadia is a perfect all-rounder if you consider it from a utilitarian perspective. It has sizable cargo capacity, comfortable interiors, handsome appeal, and a decently powerful engine. The only thing it lacks is the fuel economy, which is made up for by its large gas tank. Overall, for the given price range the Acadia, it is an excellent choice.
