Overall Rating
The new GMC Yukon has a potent engine lineup and a stable ride. It also has lots of space in its first two rows, and its cabin is filled with upscale materials. Unfortunately, the Yukon's rock-bottom reliability rating drags it to the back of our large SUV rankings.
One of the handful body on frame SUVs left on the market, the Yukon is GMC’s flagship SUV. The Yukon is a big old-school type of SUV very different from the modern crossovers with hybrid drivetrains and small engines instead Yukon can only be bought with a V-8. The new GMC Yukon has a potent engine lineup and a stable ride. It also has lots of space in its first two rows, and its cabin is filled with upscale materials. Unfortunately, the Yukon's rock-bottom reliability rating drags it to the back of our large SUV rankings.
Because of the sluggish power delivery from the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8, we suggest getting the Denali. The 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 offers better power and torque and upgraded suspension that increases the ride quality dramatically. GMC offers all the bells and whistles and leather all around in the interior.

There are three available trims for the 2015 Yukon: SLE, SLT, and Denali. The base SLE has a generous list of standard features. It comes with a 355-horsepower V8 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, an 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, remote start, keyless entry, and tri-zone automatic climate control. For more safety features, consider stepping up to the SLT trim. It includes a Driver Alert package that has a forward collision warning, lane departure alert, and GM's Safety Alert seat. It also includes heated and ventilated leather seats and power-folding rear seats.

There's also an available XL long-wheelbase model for shoppers in need of additional rear-seat space.

The GMC Yukon can opt for two engine options: a 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 which is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 which puts out a sports car-like number 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The 2WD is standard while the 4WD is optional for each configuration.
Combined with a towing capacity of up to 8,600 pounds, the 2015 GMC Yukon's performance is at the upper edge of all SUVs, making it a top pick for those who do more than commute or haul the family to work or school--but also a fairly efficient choice for those who require an SUV that can do it all.

The acceleration is not what people look for in these types of vehicles but it is good to have sufficient power on tap. Because of the massive dimensions and weight, the Yukon cannot accelerate as hard as a sports car but it just might surprise you for what it is. The Yukon takes 16.7 seconds to complete a quarter-mile but is configured with a 6.2L V-8 it takes around 14 seconds which is the quickest time.
One of the better reasons to buy the Yukon is the fuel economy that the massive SUV provides 16 MPG city and 23 MPG on the highway which surpasses most of the competition i.e. if equipped with the 5.3L V-8 with 2WD. Thanks to direct injection for improved engine responsiveness and more precise fuel metering, as well as cylinder deactivation technology that can cut half of the cylinders off under low-load situations, the new V-8s, in both 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter forms, are both surprisingly efficient and eminently capable.

If equipped with the bigger V-8 it loses on mileage but gains on power and the 4WD option also pushes the figure further down. The cylinder deactivation system can silently and seamlessly turn off half of the V-8's cylinders, letting you cruise in V-4 mode. Meanwhile, its competitors spend a hard time beating the immutable figures of the new GMC Yukon.
Although the Chevrolet Tahoe manages to get in line with the Yukon, it is the same car at the end of the day. Meanwhile, the Toyota Sequoia surprises with the least figures for the economy, given that it comes from the Japanese reliability and refinement expert Toyota.
Yukon sits high off the ground and gives you a commanding position on the road while driving. Yukon can opt with heated and ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats and these seats are comfortable as well. The passenger cabin of the 2015 GMC Yukon is both attractive and of high quality.Â
Gauges and controls are easy to read and access, while the large IntelliLink central display operates intuitively and for 2015, quicker than before. The cabin also benefits from a range of sound-deadening measures that give it a hushed ambiance usually reserved for luxury cars.

This is where the Yukon falls far short, however. That third row is quite simply cramped, as its seat bottom is as close to the ground as possible. Adults and even kids will be substantially more comfortable in a rival SUV. The Yukon even steps back on practicality as there is only room for 15.3 cu-ft. In the boot. All its competitors, including the Toyota Sequoia, offers more. In fact, the latter has the best boot in the segment. Some of the interior features in the 2015 GMC Yukon are:
The Yukon's standard IntelliLink infotainment system is user-friendly, but some may find that it takes a while to respond to inputs. The system comes with an 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, up to six USB ports, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and HD Radio.Â
Available features include navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system. Denali models upgrade to a higher base specification like a 10-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround sound system; active noise cancellation, an eight-inch customizable driver display; and IntelliLink with navigation, Bluetooth, audio streaming, and five USB ports.Â
The 2015 GMC Yukon is fully redesigned. With its straight-edged look, the 2015 GMC Yukon is an offensive lineman in a crisp suit. It's tall and masculine, with squared-off corners and a commanding presence.
While GM says it doesn't share body panels with the Sierra pickup, it does take cues from that vehicle, including doors that are triple-sealed and set into the side of the body instead of wrapping into the roof. The Yukon is shaped like a brick. From the outside, it looks massive and resembles the Sierra pickup.

Compared to the Tahoe the Yukon has a more subtle look. If you opt for the Denali you do get a flashier Chrome grille. However, comparing the basic attributes, the Nissan Armada is the longest vehicle in this count, followed by the Ford Expedition. Meanwhile, the Toyota Sequoia gathers the tallest stance with almost 10 inches of ground clearance. This is probably one of the reasons the SUV is getting a timid response. Nevertheless, the underlying fact is that the Yukon is designed in a very sophisticated manner, to get optimum output. Some of the exterior features in the 2015 GMC Yukon are:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2015 Yukon an overall rating of four out of five stars, with five stars in the frontal and side crash tests, and three stars in the rollover test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did not crash-test the 2015 Yukon. The Yukon does not come standard with any advanced safety features.
Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display are available. GM's Safety Alert seat is another upgrade you can get in the Yukon. It vibrates to alert the driver of a potential collision and works in unison with other safety warnings. Some Safety Features are
The 2015 GMC Yukon offers sufficient features even at the base trim which none of the competition does. The interior is plush and luxurious, the exterior is clean and traditional in terms of looks and the option to upgrade the engine to a bigger V-8 turns the Yukon into a whole different animal. The Yukon might not be the best when compared to the competition in terms of utility and fuel economy but the Yukon is loaded with features and the addition of the bigger 6.2L V-8 also becomes more fun as well.
