Both engines are paired to a 6-speed automatic which directs all the power to the front wheels or all the wheels depending on the drivetrain you select.
In the performance tests, the Kia Sportage EX and LX with the 2.4-liter engine does the 0-60 mph sprint in 7.6 seconds, the standing quarter-mile in 16.1 seconds. It is a good looking SUV with a simple design. The lines are sharp and define the car well. The Sportage has the Kia grille which can be also seen on other Kia cars as well. There is also a slightly higher waistline so that there is a more SUV feel to it than a crossover vehicle.
The exterior has its own set of features as well including 17” wheels which can be upgraded to 18” wheels (standard on higher trims). With the help of the premium and luxury package, the EX and SX trims get a panoramic sunroof and power-folding mirrors. In terms of dimensions, the Kia Sportage is similar to the Hyundai Tucson (they are from the same parent company and share quite a few parts) but is shorter than the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV-4, but all have the same wheelbase. However, the Kia Sportage is the lightest of the above vehicles weighing in at 3,280 pounds, nearly 150 pounds lighter than the heaviest SUV of the above - the Honda CR-V.
The new Kia Sportage has received a 4-star overall safety rating for the front-wheel-drive variant and a 5-star overall safety rating for the all-wheel-drive variant from the NHTSA. The IIHS has received decent scores in its IIHS crash testing with “good” in many tests with a “poor” in one test. It has also not received a top safety pick award from the IIHS. The 2015 Kia Sportage is a good SUV and is ideal for daily use. Considering its price, it does have an upscale feel to it on its inside. The SX trim does get a good turbocharged engine which should make driving a little more enjoyable when you put your foot down, but it does come with a decent space and a good number of safety features.
