We recommend getting the EX trim which comes with more comfort features, as this is a daily driven SUV. Also available is an 18-wheel and infinity sound system and HD radio. There is also the Premium package which adds a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, ventilated seats, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with navigation.

The Kia Sportage is powered by a 2.4 liter inline-4 which makes 182 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The SX trim gets a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-4 making 260 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired to a 6-speed automatic which directs all the power to the front wheels or all the wheels depending on the drivetrain you select.

In the performance tests, the Kia Sportage EX and LX with the 2.4-liter engine does the 0-60 mph sprint in 7.6 seconds, the standing quarter-mile in 16.1 seconds. The SX with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine does the 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and the standing quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds. Both engines will achieve a top speed of 113 mph. 

The most powerful of the above cars are the Honda CR-V which makes 185 hp. Then comes the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, both making 182 hp. Lastly, with the least power of the above cars, the Toyota RAV-4 makes 176 hp. The fastest 0-60 sprint is done in 7.5 seconds by the Honda CR-V and then comes the Kia Sportage with 7.6 seconds. The Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV-4 complete the standings. 

The Kia Sportage offers 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and a combined mpg of 24. The fuel capacity offered by the Kia Sportage is 15.3 gallons allowing it to have a range of 321 miles in the city, 428 miles on the highway, and a combined range of 367 miles. When equipped with AWD the number drops to 22 mpg combined. The SX trim gives a combined 23 mpg (FWD) and 21mpg (AWD). 

The most combined range is given by the Honda CR-V of 443 miles, then comes the Toyota RAV-4 of 413 miles followed by the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, both offering a combined range of 367 miles. The Honda even though with the same fuel tank offers much better fuel figures which allow the longer range. 

The interior of the Kia is much better looking than you would expect and it has a seating capacity of 5 people. The front seats are 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way manually adjustable front passenger’s seat. In the EX you get a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The premium package for EX gets you ventilated front seats. The standard front seats of the SX trim have seat heating features. 

The interior upholstery is cloth on the base, premium cloth on the EX, and with the premium package leather upholstery. The SX comes with Clean Tex cloth seats, and if you opt for the luxury package leather upholstery is available. There is automatic air conditioning on the base and dual-zone automatic air conditioning on the front seats. The cargo capacity of the Kia Sportage is 26.1 cu-ft. and can be extended with the help of rear folding seats. 

The legroom difference of the above cars is marginal in the front and back row, just an inch or two will be separating the above cars. The difference is in the cargo capacity. Here the most trunk space is offered by the Toyota RAV-4 which has 38.4 cu-ft of space, then comes the Honda CR-V with 35 cu-ft of space, the Kia Sportage with 26.1 cu-ft, and Hyundai Tucson with 25.7 cu-ft of trunk space. 

How intuitive is the Infotainment unit of 2015 Kia Sportage

The base Kia Sportage does not have any infotainment system but offers satellite radio, CD player and 6-speakers sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, and connectivity for an iPod and USB port.

The EX does not get one but the premium package adds a 7-inch touchscreen running on the UVO system and navigation with an Infinity premium sound system. The UVO system is easy to use and has been improved for this year. Some of the infotainment features are:

It is a good looking SUV with a simple design. The lines are sharp and define the car well. The Sportage has the Kia grille which can be also seen on other Kia cars as well. There is also a slightly higher waistline so that there is a more SUV feel to it than a crossover vehicle. 

The exterior has its own set of features as well including 17” wheels which can be upgraded to 18” wheels (standard on higher trims). With the help of the premium and luxury package, the EX and SX trims get a panoramic sunroof and power-folding mirrors. There are also available accessories from which can be added in case you want it.

In terms of dimensions, the Kia Sportage is similar to the Hyundai Tucson (they are from the same parent company and share quite a few parts) but is shorter than the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV-4, but all have the same wheelbase. However, the Kia Sportage is the lightest of the above vehicles weighing in at 3,280 pounds, nearly 150 pounds lighter than the heaviest SUV of the above - the Honda CR-V. 

The new Kia Sportage has received a 4-star overall safety rating for the front-wheel-drive variant and a 5-star overall safety rating for the all-wheel-drive variant from the NHTSA. The IIHS has received decent scores in its IIHS crash testing with “good” in many tests with a “poor” in one test. It has also not received a top safety pick award from the IIHS. However, Kia has equipped the Sportage with many safety features, some of which can be added on as an optional extra. Some of the safety features are:

• Emergency and roadside assistance
• Geo-fencing and speed tracking (for parents to set speed limits for teen drivers)

The 2015 Kia Sportage is a good SUV and is ideal for daily use. Considering its price, it does have an upscale feel to it on its inside. The SX trim does get a good turbocharged engine which should make driving a little more enjoyable when you put your foot down, but it does come with a decent space and a good number of safety features.
