Overall Rating
The 2015 model year sees slight changes in terms of its equipment level and also comes with a new Black Label edition.
The 2015 Lincoln MKZ is a car that has been refreshed for the second time after its inception and comes with a lot of options for the buyer. It now has a very distinctive presence compared to the Ford Fusion on which it is based and comes with a very attractive exterior design and interior features.
The Lincoln MKZ is an excellent choice for a luxury sedan in today’s market. Right from the base trim, the car is supremely well loaded and comes with an array of exciting and useful features. There is a huge price difference between the Black Label variant and the base MKZ which does not appeal to buyers unless they are looking for a very personalized buying experience. For this reason, we recommend the Lincoln MKZ that should meet all demands of luxury buyers with ease.

The 2015 Lincoln MKZ is available in three different trims; MKZ / MKZ hybrid /Black Label. The hybrid variant of the sedan will be reviewed separately. Both gasoline variants are equipped with the same base engine - a 2 L turbocharged four-cylinder while the hybrid adds an electric motor. The base variant is available for $35,190. It is itself pretty well equipped with features like 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, eight-way power front seats, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, rearview camera, and so on.

The Lincoln MKZ offers two gasoline engine choices - that begin with a base 2 L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 240 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque. This is then paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and power is sent to the front wheels while all-wheel-drive is optional. Then you get the optional 3.7 L V-6 engine that produces 300 hp and 477 pound-feet of torque. This is again paired to the same transmission and powertrain options. The base sedan reaches the 60 mph mark in 7.2 seconds and completes a quarter-mile in 15.3 seconds.

The Lincoln MKZ finds itself in the segment with some hot competition. It is competing against cars that are not truly luxurious but also have not cut corners in terms of performance. In comparison, the Lexus ES 350 is the most powerful car, while the Acura TLX is the least powerful. This is reflected in terms of real-world performance as well, but one can never feel that the Lincoln is a slow car.
Fuel efficiency is a figure that was seldom discussed in the segment of luxury sedans until a while ago. However, things have changed for the better as even this class has laid its focus on producing cars that are light on the pocket. The base engine in the Lincoln is estimated by the EPA to produce 23 MPG in the combined cycle, 20 MPG in the city, and 28 on the highway.
All-wheel-drive drops these figures by one MPG, while the 3.7 L V-6 is rated for 22 MPG combined, 18 MPG in the city, and 27 on the highway. The sedan however compensates in terms of the range due to its rather large fuel tank capacity of 18 gallons, resulting in 360 miles of city range and 504 miles on the highway. However, the best performer in this area is the hybrid version which returns an estimated 40 MPG combined.

In comparison, the Lincoln falls back in terms of fuel efficiency. The Acura’s engine starts to depict why it is much less powerful as it is a car that returns the best fuel efficiency. The Lexus still strikes the best compromise of the lot because it is the most powerful car while manages to perform better than Lincoln in the department. The MKZ does not remain competitive until you take the hybrid version into account.
The cabin of the Lincoln is designed to make one more hopeful and ambitious about the future. It is very closely related to the Ford Fusion, but the semblance remains only in terms of the overall structure.
The materials used are much more superior, and the design is truly a class apart. However, one might find several cheap materials in the construction, and that is not a great thing when you consider a sedan of this price point. It offers a decent trunk space at 15.4 ft.³, which is close to segment standard.

All cars in the category offer excellent interior space, and one cannot certainly complain about the lack of features in either one as well. However, the coupe-like roofline of the Lincoln does eat up a bit of headroom. In terms of material quality, Lexus performs much better than its rivals. Some of its interior features include:
The infotainment unit in the Lincoln MKZ is an 8-inch touchscreen interface that comes with 11 speaker sound system and includes a CD player, Bluetooth, navigation, and so on.
There is also a Sync voice commands system that is borrowed from Ford. This infotainment system is a bit sluggish and can definitely be improved. Few standout infotainment features available with the pickup are-
The exterior design of the Lincoln MKZ is no doubt futuristic, but it has split opinion into two camps. Some feel that the car is good-looking while others feel it is badly executed.
We feel that it is a decent design nevertheless and has proportions that are questionable but elegant overall. The sedan weighs the heaviest at 4.702 lbs and stands 5.9 inches above the ground.

The Lincoln is the largest car in its class no matter what dimension you’re looking at. At 4,702 pounds, it is a much heavier car than its competitors, which weigh in at about 3500 pounds. However, despite its lower ground clearance, it is still one of the highest offered in class, and the wheelbase being long, does pay off dividends in terms of stability. Some standout exterior features include:
The Lincoln MKZ has undergone the NHTSA crash test and scored an excellent five stars, while in the IIHS crash test, it earned a top score of ‘Good’ in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, roof strength, and glass protection tests. Standard safety features on the 2015 Lincoln MKZ include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front and rear airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and so on. Some standout safety features include:
The 2015 Lincoln MKZ is a better iteration of the Ford Fusion. It is a much more luxurious and feature-loaded counterpart that also performs quite well. It is a car that can deliver a truly personal experience when it comes to buying it and personalizing it and is certainly very desirable due to that. At the same time, it also provides a lot of standard features that make it a class apart. All in all, this sedan is a considerable pick in the segment.
