Overall Rating
The 2015 Toyota Land Cruiser sees no changes for this year's model. It is equipped with the same powerful V8 engine and provides great overall performance. It is the quickest in acceleration but lacks in terms of fuel economy.
The Toyota Land Cruiser has a legendary reputation for serious off-roading skills and also performs well even on tarmac. Although not many use the Land Cruiser to its fullest extent as most use it for daily city runs which are not amongst its strongest points. It glides over broken patches as if it's moving over smooth paved roads.
Continuing as a carry forward from the previous model year and hence it also carries forward its great ride quality, off-road abilities, and also the high price tag. The price tag of $81,150 places it amongst the most premium SUV offerings like the Land Rover Range Rover and Lexus LX 570.
Since there is only a single trim on offer there is not much to choose from but there are some additional packages that add even more functionality but then elevates the price even further.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD is available in a single trim only and comes loaded with various safety and functionality features. There are also various interior features which include a premium JBL audio system and four-zone climate control, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheel. The high-pressure headlamp washers are also a nifty add-on.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine which is mated to a 6-speed automatic that powers all four wheels as standard.
It generates a hefty 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque which helps it reach 60 mph in 6.5 seconds from a standstill. The quarter-mile is covered in 14.9 seconds whereas the maximum towing capacity is at a whopping 8,200 lbs.

The Lexus LX 570 has a similar engine output as that of the Land Cruiser but the performance is not up to the mark when compared to the Toyota. The Lexus also has the lowest towing capacity in this comparison. The Land Rover Range Rover is the most expensive SUV here and is also the fastest, thanks to the supercharged engine that produces the highest engine output.
The EPA rates the Toyota Land Cruiser for 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg out on the highway with a combined 15 mpg ratings. The large 24.6-gallon gas tank saves the day as it helps compensate for the low fuel efficiency as it manages to be driven for over 300 miles on a single tank of gas.

The Range Rover is the most efficient SUV here but it features a marginally smaller fuel tank and yet manages to return the best driving range. The Lexus LX 570 is the less efficient SUV despite having a large fuel tank.
The interior of the Land Cruiser is upmarket with quality materials and construction is a well built one. The build quality is on par with the competitors as it offers well-supportive seats and can seat up to 8 passengers. Although, the last third row of seats is best suited for younger kids ut the space upfront and the second row is on par with its peers.Â
The heating recline functionality for the second-row seats is a blessing and makes the interiors feel even more upmarket. Add to that the abundant cargo space even with all seats upright is a bonus of owning a large premium SUV.

Both the Lexus and the Toyota offer seating for 8 occupants while the Land Rover can seat only 5. In terms of space, both the 8 seaters are pretty evenly matched as they are practically the same car from different brands since Lexus is a subsidiary of the Toyota group. The Range Rover has a more spacious rear seat due to the lack of a third row of seats but then the maximum luggage carrying capacity is way below the Toyota.Â
The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system could do with some updates as it clearly feels outdated. The graphics aren’t that crisp and the menus and UI doesn’t offer an intuitive experience.
Although, the Land Cruiser's Entune smartphone app integration is a welcome addition and the multiview off-road camera system looks way cool even in today’s day and age. The standard rear-seat DVD entertainment system makes sure the rear-seat entertainment on a long ride is not forsaken for any particular reason.
The arrival of a Land Cruiser at any function or an event marks the arrival of a personality, such as the persona of the Toyota Land Cruiser.
The large chrome grille with beefy bumpers and wide headlamps provides a bold front fascia whereas the huge dimensions with roof rails and flared wheel arches adds up to the imposing style and looks of the SUV.

The Lexus LX 570 is the longest of the lot and is also the heaviest in the segment, tipping the scales at a whopping 6,000 lbs. The Range Rover is over 800 lbs lighter and yet offers a longer wheelbase which aids in interior space. The ground clearance is on par on all the three SUVs with not much to differentiate between them in this aspect.
The high price tag and low sales volume of the new Toyota Land Cruiser mean that neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has crash-tested the 2016 SUV. But since Toyota hails from the land of reliability and safety, Toyota makes no compromises on this aspect and packs it with a bunch of features to safeguard its esteemed customers in all scenarios. A highlight of the exhaustive list of safety and driver assistance technology is listed below.
Although the Toyota Land Cruiser is from a low budget and affordable car manufacturer, on the inside it does well to hold up against the more premium rivals. Although its off-road ability is beyond exceptional, there is nothing substantial about its on-road mannerism. So unless you plan on taking on the road less traveled frequently, buying the Toyota Land Cruiser would be a shame for its capabilities.
