Overall Rating
The 2015 Volvo XC60 comes equipped with multiple engine options and thus there is one available for everyone as per their requirement. All the engines are powerful and provide great performance
The 2015 Volvo XC60 ranks near the bottom of the luxury compact SUV class. The XC60 has a spacious cabin and great safety scores, but its low-reliability rating and clunky infotainment controls keep it from ranking higher. This second-generation model has one of the finest cabins in its class. It’s outfitted with lovely materials, cushy seats, and a user-friendly touch screen, as well as popular features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2015 Volvo XC60 is one of the few crossovers that offers custom-designed safety seats for young children.
For XC60, its sleekly styled exterior, stylish cabin, and engaging driving dynamics mean everything. Best of all, those characteristic attributes disguise what is still a sensible vehicle with plenty of family-friendly space and features, complemented by top-notch crash test scores. With the base model giving you many standard features, the best pick would be the same.

The 2015 Volvo XC60 offers no fewer than four different engines; half are quite old, the other half are brand-new. Volvo's mid-size crossover utility handles well in all versions, though there's a clear difference in acceleration feel among the engines.
And crucially, the newest engines are offered only with front-wheel drive--it's a packaging problem, according to Volvo--so all-wheel-drive XC60s will stick with their legacy engines until an entirely new design comes along in two or three years.

The 2015 BMW X3, another luxury compact SUV, has a comparably spacious interior, zippy turbocharged engines, great safety scores, and many available safety features. The BMW has a higher reliability rating, better driving dynamics, and a more straightforward infotainment system than the Volvo. The XC60 isn’t perfect, but it’s a better option than the 2015 Audi Q5. The Audi doesn’t ride as comfortably as the Volvo. Also, it falls behind in power output.
Fuel economy has been the Achilles' heel of the Volvo XC60. Last year, every engine and drive variant was rated at either 20 or 21 mpg combined. For 2015, that has changed, at least for XC60 models without all-wheel-drive. The two front-wheel-drive XC60s for 2015 use Volvo's new Drive-E 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine line, designed from the ground up for efficiency. They are rated at 27 mpg combined (24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway) for the 240-horsepower turbocharged Drive-E engine, or 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) for the 302-hp version that uses both a turbocharger and a supercharger.

Those ratings, by comparison, are better than the numbers earned by non-AWD versions of the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. The challenge for the XC60 is that its best fuel economy doesn't come with all-wheel drive, and if you do opt for AWD, at least a handful of three-row SUVs on the market can achieve similar ratings with far more utility. This year, it's a tough choice, but Volvo's taken a giant step in the right direction with its new engine.
The Volvo XC60 is a two-row SUV with five seats. The front seats are especially comfortable and supportive, and there’s ample head- and legroom even for tall drivers and passengers. The rear seats are similarly comfy and spacious.
Cloth seats are standard and heated and leather seats are available. The XC60’s interior does a fine job of muffling road and wind noise, and it’s nicely trimmed with quality soft-touch plastics and metal accents.Â

As with other Volvos, the XC60's cabin is defined by a modern yet inviting design indicative of its Swedish homeland. The shape of the "floating" center stack and available real wood trim are particularly distinctive, and there's certainly no mistaking the XC60 for anything else in the segment. Another Volvo hallmark is the sublimely comfortable and supportive front seats. In comparison, Volvo offers the biggest cargo space at the back of 30.8 cubic feet. Some interior features are:
The straightforward dual-temperature adjustment dials and "mode man" pictogram make climate control adjustments simple and intuitive. The audio system's phone-style number pad and surrounding buttons may look a bit antiquated in the luxury class these days, but they're simple and make controlling basic stereo functions easy.
For more complicated tasks like selecting a media player playlist, programming the navigation system, or controlling more complicated vehicle functions, the XC60 relies on the standard Sensus system. It, too, is fairly easy to use and similar to competitor systems, though the multipurpose knob's location on the dash (rather than the center console) is not ideal. Few standout features of the infotainment are-Â
While the 2015 Volvo XC60 is a somewhat chiseled shape, it's distinctive and striking even in its sixth model year. It blends smooth lines and rakish angles, including an upswept beltline, with practicality for cargo hauling that belies its style--perhaps the best combination of traditional Volvo virtues with a newly acquired set of stylish clothes.
The traditional Volvo "ironmark" badge is still there, with its chrome diagonal running from lower left to upper right, but it's less garish in the new grille due to the effect of chromed horizontal bars that give a wider, lower look compared to the previous grid of rectangular openings.

While the XC60 is tall, it's visually svelte, with nicely balanced proportions and minimal detailing. There are no fake fender vents, no huge expanses of chrome, and few flourishes. If anything, the latest XC60s are a touch more plain and severe, with the abolition of all contrasting sills and wheel-arch moldings. Now the XC60 exterior is entirely a single color, looking a bit more elegant than the crossover cliche. All the three SUVs compared here are having almost similar characteristics when it comes to the curb weight, length, width, height, or even the wheelbase; only some marginal change of figures differ them on the rank list. Some exterior features are:
Every 2015 XC60 comes standard with Volvo’s City Safety system, which can automatically apply the brakes in an emergency when traveling at speeds of 31 mph or below. Available features include adaptive pivoting headlights, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with full-speed brake assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and a driver drowsiness monitor.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2015 XC60 an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. It earned five stars in the frontal and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover evaluation. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the XC60 a 2015 Top Safety Pick+, its highest award. It earned a top rating of Good in all five crash tests conducted. Some safety features include:
The 2015 XC60 isn’t a top pick if you’re shopping for a luxury compact SUV. The XC60 has an antiquated infotainment system with odd controls. More concerning is its poor reliability rating. These demerits overshadow the SUV’s finer points, like a roomy interior, great safety features, and punchy turbocharged engines. So, if you can deal with a SUV with low reliability scores but extensive features list, Volvo XC60 is the pick.
